whine/rant, same old song and dance
Romance is the highest selling genre of fiction. In 2012, it was the largest share of the US consumer market, at 16.7 percent.
So why, then, is it such a goddamned “mystery” that supposedly ‘sensible, intelligent, strong’ women are flocking to Fifty Shades of Grey (and, apparently as a result, the erotic and romance market as a whole)?
Okay, let me rephrase that. Because damned if I can understand whyThose Books are popular at all, once they’ve been read. I’m convinced thesales popularity is hyp...

MIT Pirates, Underground Secrets of NYC, Forgotten Pin-up Girls, and More
First off, I need to just go ahead and admit it – I’ve become a Messy Nessy Chic junkie. So many of the neat internet things I bookmark wind up coming from there. Such as:
America’s forgotten pin-up girl, the lovely, lusciously curvy Hilda.I absolutely adore these illustrations of Duane Bryers. And Hilda might be one of my new more favorite things. Check out the Hilda gallery at Toil.
Next up from Messy Nessy Chic – A long and fascinating video-tagalong with underground NYC urban explorer, hist...

BOOM!
Two biggies today:
Finally… FINALLY, The Switch is complete and released for your reading enjoyment! You’ll notice it’s the first in theBeldenbrook Downs series. Meaning, I couldn’t just write a hot BDSM story involving naughty things with a riding crop. No, the side characters had to have their way, and now it’s a series-in-progress. The next story,The Beard, promises to be a doozy. In the meantime, you can get yourself warmed up by clicking through any of the links over there on the right. Th...

My Brain is a Dweeb.
Ever since that post about metaphors, I’ve found myself playing this little mental game -how would this work as a metaphor for my life, for writing, for self-motivation, etc. – ? Today’s metaphor is brought to you by my stupid motherfucking asshurting hyper-extended knee. I didn’t injure it doing anything interesting, or anything at all (unless it was sexual, which I guess might be a possibility? I can’t remember!).
(Oh, god – I just googled that shit, and it is a thing… d’oh!)
Okay, ANYWAY. So...

Tuesday Links!
As frustrating as it is here in America, it’s a scary place for LGBT people in Russia right now.
On a lighter, more hopeful note, however, people have been making good use of our trash. A house made out of recycled plastic bottles? Not only is it a great, cheap use of our waste, but it’s functional as hell – the fact that the bottles are filled with dried soil and construction waste and sealed with mud makes the house bullet- and earthquake-resistant. AND well-insulated. Another report said th...

Get On To The Ship
(cookies for anyone who gets that sort-of reference)
Earlier this week I found my brain going back to my old fandom days, and my favorite ‘ship.’ I even decided to “let” myself return to fanfiction one night per week, if I so desired. It hasn’t happened yet – I’m still hammering out edits onThe Switch so I can hopefully release it this month. But I did indulge in re-reading a couple of old fics, one of which was left unfinished and the other I had started a prequel to. While the writing was cr...

Metaphor

It’s a metaphor for whatever you want it to be.
Warning: I’m about to make the word “metaphor” lose all meaning and sense, just by repetition.
I spent my day tuning pianos in a church. I do that quite a bit. Actually, I probably spend more time at church than a lot of Christians, even though I’m a very ‘non-declared’ agnostic/Taoist type person. This is only relevant because of how I got to that point, both in profession and faith.
Like several people I know, I went through a pagan/Wiccan phase...
