Giveaways in 2017

Hello Readers!

For those of you that haven't read all three of The Tree Collection yet, I have great news!

I have figured out (based on monthly spending allowance) how many copies of each of my books in The Tree Collection I can give away each month from now until the end of 2017!

129 Copies Will Be GIVEN Away! That's right, 129 total copies will be given away right here on Goodreads. And yes, that's PAPERBACK copies.

Don't forget that I plan on releasing a new story every quarter (one every 3-4 months) and these giveaways will include those titles as well.

As for now and throughout 2017, all books remain at $5.99 retail on the major websites. The ebooks will drop in price as each new one comes out. This will all you ereading folk to pick up previous titles at a lower cost.

That's it for now, as always, thanks for reading,

Nicholas.

On the Shelves

Hello folks,

Just to keep you all up to date on what's going on in the writing world of Nicholas McGirr, I thought I would let you all know that the Tree Collection has made it to bookshelves! The Life Tree, The Umbrella Tree and The Rhythm Tree are all on shelves at specific Barnes and Noble stores!
All three books are available on the B&N website. Very exciting news!!
I'm also working on re-releasing Growing Dim, published through NookPress. This title will be available in Hardcover, hopefully by the end of the year.
Also, the fourth book in The Tree Collection will be released by the end of the year. The cover just came across my desk and it's just as beautiful as the other three.
I couldn't be more fortunate to work with such talented artists and cover designer.
As for now, back to the keyboard and as always, Thanks for Reading.

A new tree

Hello followers!

As you may or may not know, I have been working on a Tree Collection series of novelettes for a better part of the past 5 years. As of late, I've found more inspiration to keep this series going and have found even more venues for you to find my books.

The Rhythm Tree was recently released on both amazon and barnes and noble's website. Here's a quick synopsis:

Bigby lives in the afterlife as a giant oak tree. In life, he was an overweight street musician raised by his voodoo queen grandmother and an uncle that took him in after losinig his mother. In the streets of N’Orleans, Bigby learns what it means to have friends and connections, for when his uncle and grandmother mysteriously disappear, Bigby finds he is being looked after by the voodoo community. He is showered with gifts of food, food and more food as he grows up alone in N’Orleans. Becoming overweight through adolescence, Bigby trades up his trumpet playing for the trombone, just to keep the music alive within. After Hurricane Katrina takes Bigby’s life, he is left oblivious to the community and following that his voodoo grandmother and Uncle created and is left with the memories of a happy life. Ignorance is more than bliss for Bigby in the afterlife.

I'm very excited to release this title both in paperback and ebook formats. I've already begun the next edition in this series and you can find a preview in the back of The Rhythm Tree.

Also, I'm glad to announce that I've finally joined twitter! You can follow me @nickmcgirrbooks. I plan on keeping all informed of progress, adventures and inspirations through this blog so please share, share, share!

Thanks for reading,

Nicholas

Education Complete

Dear Readers,

As of late, I have just received my degrees through Ashford University: BA in English, and a BA in Journalism. With these newfound writing skills I'm starting my own freelance business on top of continuing my fiction writing.

I'm writing in this blog to announce this since it seems that my "New Ghost Title" blog post received quite a few views and hoping to acquire some new clients and/or new friends here that are also in the freelance business.

If you or anyone you know is in need of writing services, please contact me through the many networks I belong to:
Linked in: Nicholas McGirr
Goodreads
Facebook: Nicholas McGirr

Over my writing career, I've written three books (working on three more currently), have been a music critic for a website in Pittsburgh and have written many "ghost-written" articles.

I look forward to hearing from fellow freelancers and discovering new clients.

Sincerely,

Nicholas McGirr
author of The Life Tree

Just had to post this....

Below you'll find a homework assignment from one of my Journalism courses. The idea behind the assignment was to act as the writer on behalf of a company that was gaining a bad reputation from a newspaper and to react to it. As you'll see, a fellow classmate responded to my initial letter, and my professor responded at the end. Thought this was a great conversation.....

ABC Environment changes lineup, goals

In light of the downsized economy, ABC Environment is taking precautions that protect our communities with preventative care. With pollution cleanups in Big City, Little Town and the Mediocre Metro area, ABC Environment took business back to the drawing board. These pollution cleanups were devastating to our community, and ABC Environment’s original goal was to protect the community, not necessarily clean up the mess.

ABC cleaned and handled all three of the chemical contaminations in these areas and all with extreme care to follow all environmental concerns. However, after the pollutants were up to environmental codes, ABC’s chief officers were taken back to why they started the company; to prevent events like those in Big City, Little Town and the Mediocre Metro area. Instead, ABC Environment has downsized the experts of pollutants cleaning up the city and has employed those same experts as educators in the community.

These environmentalists have created educational material on the prevention of polluting the community. These same environmentalists are also available as guest speakers at major events, schools and businesses. ABC Environment is dedicated to keeping the community safe and clean of pollutants that destroy nature and cause illnesses in both animals and members of the community.

ABC Environment welcomes all questions, concerns and patronage in regards to the changing lineup of the company. Please use the following contact information for those questions and concerns or if you are a business owner or community leader in need of ABC Environment’s guest speakers to educate your group.

Sir,
You state that it is the goal of your company not to clean up but to prevent the mess,If this is so why are you charging fees for cleanups that you do not intend to complete. Not only this but you have cut your workforce making it more difficult to complete cleanups when needed. In other words if your goal is to educate the community on how to prevent these problems, why should we the citizens pay for information readily available online.

Dear Mr. Q. Public,

It is obvious that the public is not using the available online resources and the results are that there are massive cleanups in years past. Our educators and speakers are multi-tasking by taking on the responsibility of the cleanups as well as educating our community.

Standing firm in our decision to cross-train our staff for the good of the community,

ABC Environment Management.

Nicholas, this is a different approach than I have seen in the past, but I think I like it!

New Ghost Title

To all the subscribers of this blog and to my readers of my books, I feel as though I owe an explanation of my internet absence over the past 6 months.

I moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina over a year ago and have been nearly obsessed with the culture and the stories that are told here along the Grand Strand. Originally from Ohio, this was quite a culture shock listening to the Southern draws tell me about chicken bog and the ghost stories that thrive on the history of rice plantations and confederate graveyards. Having a fascination with the afterlife, as I’m sure you could tell by reading my fiction works, my interest was piqued.

Along the path of researching the locations of these ghost tales, I met a magnificent man, Carl Ray who just so happened to be a psychic/medium. I invited Carl Ray to join me on a quest to learn the truths behind the rumors of the ghost stories that stretch along the Grand Strand. He excitedly accepted.

Through our adventures so far, Carl Ray’s abilities have been nothing but astounding and sometimes confusing.

Nevertheless, after each case we’ve walked away from confused, I have been able to validate each key phrase and sense that he feels and writes down. Carl Ray taps into each area before we even arrive and his automatic writing has proven to be a great tool for my research.

This is the topic of my next book. A non-fiction work, this next book is a documentation of our adventures. The idea is simple: I pick up Carl Ray, and he, who has no idea where we are going, taps into whatever energy of the locations we visit, before we even get there! We don’t use high tech gadgets like cameras and ask questions into thin air waiting for a voice on an audio recorder. No, we tour the location, sometimes with a guide, and then validate our findings later through actual research.

This book is slated to be finished by September of this year and hopefully in the hands of a publisher. My hopes for this book are to have an accompanying website that takes the reader further into each case by giving them access to all pictures and audio taken at each location. Yes, we do take pictures and I record our conversations, but the reader will find that these recordings and pictures actually enhance the experience!

I cannot wait to see what else is in store for Carl Ray and me on our adventures, and we even have a guest or two coming along for the ride. In celebration of this book moving along rather quickly, I thought I would give you, the readers, an opportunity to pick up my latest book, The Life Tree for only 99 cents. This is the lowest amount that amazon.com will allow.

If you would, please share this blog post as I’m looking to start promoting this book as soon as possible. Of course, I cannot release the title and locations for copyright’s sake, but for now, know that there is an amazing title that is bringing the imagination and belief back into ghost stories to bookshelves this year. We are not ghost hunters, for spirits are everywhere. This is a validation of a psychic/medium’s work.

Please enjoy The Life Tree. Now only 99 cents on amazon. Though it is a short novella, I've received a handful of great reviews here on goodreads.

Thanks for reading,

Nicholas.

Upcoming Giveaways

There will be two giveaways starting here on goodreads soon.

The Life Tree will be available until September 26. 6 copies will be given away. Amazon will also have this available for free download September 21-26.

Life of Death will be available until September 10. 1 copy will be given away. Amazon will also have this title available for free download on September 5-10.

Both giveaways are a last chance to get a free copy. Soon after 2014 begins, I will be pulling both books from the shelf in order to have them professionally edited and/or reformatted.

I've learned quite a bit in the past year about formatting and working with an editor to give both books a more professional look. Essentially, the content will be the same.

If you or anyone you know is interested in entering either giveaway, please forward along this blog post.

thanks for reading,

Nicholas.

FYI, I also have a new website in the works and will be posted very soon. It will involve the details of my writing services as well as a digital portfolio.
