Sweeping Motions

As I sit here typing this, I slowly look around the house. It’s just Alexander (hubby), myself, and two pets. I’m thinking how on earth can two people be so messy. We are by no means slobs or lazy. The sink is always full of dishes. Yes, we have a dishwasher. Our bed rarely gets made anymore. Laundry piles up.

My desk has to be clean so that I can spread out my notes. If I write outside, there is usually a pillow on the desk so that our dog can look out the window. Alexander’s desk is messy. Piles of papers, the printer, a few notebooks sit on his desk.

Alexander is an artist. He loves to draw. I enjoy watching him create art. He’s working on drawing the art for the children’s story I’ve been working on. We spend as much time together as possible. We are not sloppy people. We just get lost in our own little world most days. I like to believe we have our priorities in the right  place.

Have yourself a day full of sunshine!

Twenty-five Seven

If I were given another hour, I’d make sure to spend more time with my husband and kids. I am a family oriented person. Family is very important to me. To be able to just sit and chat with my kiddos and Mom would simply be amazing.

That extra hour would be fantastic.

Hope your day is full of sunshine!

Don’t Stop the Rockin’

Well, let me tell you about my kiddos. I have four sons and one beautiful daughter from a previous marriage. I have two beautiful stepdaughters from this marriage.

My son, Elmer, lives in Illinois with his partner, Joshua. Yes, I have a gay son. I am so proud of him. I love him so much. The night he told me he was gay, he thought I was going to toss him out on his ear. I told him no way. You’re my son. You’re not going anywhere but maybe to bed. Before he told me, I saw his grades go down. He was depressed all the time. I was actually scared to go into his bedroom because I was afraid he may have hurt himself. I have no problem with my child being gay. To be honest, I would not want him to be straight. He wouldn’t be himself. He was a teenager when he came out. He asked me why did he have to be gay. I wrapped my arms around him so tight and told him because that is the way God created you. He created you this way for a reason. Elmer is in his twenties now and I can see that he is happy. Joshua and Elmer make an awesome couple. They are so cute together.

My second son, Kyle, has given me a precious grandson, James. Kyle had a drug problem but since James came into his life, he straightened himself out. There were many nights I did not know where my son was. Yes, Kyle and I have literally been to Hell and back. I thank God everyday that James came along when he did. Since Kyle got straightened up, he and I have a strong, wonderful relationship. He is a terrific dad to James.

My third son, Casey, is in the Army Reserves. He was right out of high school when he went off to boot camp. Those months he was gone, tore me up. I could not call him and talk to him. He was finally able to write letters. Receiving letters from him was like a child with a new toy. It was nice to be able to drive to Oklahoma for his graduation. It was wonderful to hug him again. Thank God! he has not been deployed anywhere.

My fourth son, Jesse, is the quiet type. He is so smart and intelligent. His nickname in grade school used to be DATA because he knew so much. He was bored with reading at the grade level he was in. So the teachers let him go to the next class to get  higher reading level. He did the same thing with math. One day, he had a horrible headache and the second grade teacher let him sleep in a corner of her classroom.  I was home so I don’t know why they did not call me.

My beautiful daughter, Adele, just turned 21. Yes, she is the baby. She was a tomboy growing up. Always trying to keep up with her brothers. I think it’s so cool the way her brothers are so protective of her. Her kindergarten teacher once told me that she always looked forward to seeing Adele. She called Adele her social butterfly. No matter what, Adele always had a smile for everyone.

My beautiful stepdaughters are Tabitha and Krystle. Tabitha lives in Canada. She has traveled here twice now. She and I pick on her dad when she visits. Krystle lives in another state with her twins.

I love all my children and grandson so much. They have each touched my life. I am a blessed mom.

Hope your day is full of sunshine and laughter!

Reader’s Block

It’s been well over a year since I’ve actually read a book. I have read a few chapters in a book for school two weeks ago. I’ve read the newspaper. I’m not one who likes to read. I’d rather be writing.

The closest library is about ten miles away. To get a library card costs money. To sit in front of the computer and try to read, is not my style. I have to have a book. If I had to choose a book, it would have to be murder/mystery or stories from the pioneer age. History interests me. I want to learn more about what my grandparents went through.

Have a wonderful day!

Things We Treasure

I actually have two things I treasure. One is a yellow and white quilt my grandmother had made. After her passing, my uncle had  found several quilts tucked away in the attic. There were eight quilts; one for each of us (my uncle has seven nieces and nephews). Anyway, instead of arguing and deciding who got which quilt, Mom put numbers on the quilt. Then she put numbers in a bucket. Whichever number we pulled, that was the quilt we got. Mine turned out to be the yellow and white one. I have it on my bed. I love the yellow color because it brightens up the bedroom. Yes, the quilt is all hand stitched.

The second treasure I have is a plaster that my little sister made while she was in the hospital for a treatment. It is of a little girl fishing. She painted it by herself. I have it hung on the wall. I treasure it even more since she is no longer with us.

Thank you for stopping by.

May your day be filled with many blessings!

Counting Voices

Having a conversation with one person is easier for me. I am much more comfortable just chatting with one person. I feel that I can say whatever is on my mind without being embarrassed. I have been in group discussions before. I was so uncomfortable. I didn’t like speaking with so many people. Part of the time, I felt like some of the group weren’t even listening to what I said.

So, in order for me to have a great conversation, it would have to be one-on-one.

Have yourself a sun filled day!

Dictionary, Shmictionary

I have probably mispronounced a word or two when I was younger. Now that I am an adult, I seriously can’t recall a time where I used a wrong word for something. Okay, I have to pause to decide if the word is then or than. Being a writer, I am really careful about words. I love words; always have.

There are plenty of words that are pronounced the same but have different meaning. Just do some research, if necessary.

Hope your day is full of blessings!

12 year old Point Of View

I was sitting on my front stoop trying to relax. It’s my favorite place to be after school. I had my snack and soda by my side. I was ready to just sit and not think about anything. I heard a train rumble on down the tracks behind the house. I always wanted to ride a train.Going off to strange and wonderful new places.

I was brought out of my daydream by a loud crash from across the street. I looked over to see that the neighbor, Mr. Latches, had dropped something that had been made out of glass. There was smithereens of glass all over his driveway. I couldn’t make out quite what he was saying but it didn’t sound pleasant. His wife had exited their house when she heard the noise.

“What happened?” She yelled. (I think the entire neighborhood heard her.) Mrs. Latches threw her arms into the air. “Oh my gosh! Where’s the angel we always hang each Christmas?”

Mr. Latches looked down at the mess on the driveway. I saw him point to it. Mrs. Latches screamed and stomped her foot. “My angel! My beautiful glass angel!! What did you do?”

By this time, Mom had joined me on the stoop. “What is going on over there?” she asked me.

“I don’t know. Something broke and Mrs. Latches is upset. I think I heard her yell something about a glass angel.”

“Oh my goodness. It would be shame if it were the glass angel. It sure looked pretty all lit up,” Mom said.

“Mom, why do they start putting up Christmas decorations in the beginning of October?”

“Well, Hun, I don’t know. Every year, it seems that their display gets bigger and bigger. It takes a lot of time and energy to put up all those decorations,” Mom said.

There was another loud crash from across the street. “So much for relaxing after school,” I mumbled. “May as well go in the house.”

Mom and I stood and entered the house. As I closed the front door, there was more yelling from the neighbors.

Hope your day is full of laughter and sunshine!

Ready, Set, Done

Our chickens are getting so big! We still have no eggs. According to the woman we got them from,we should be getting eggs soon. I love fresh eggs with toast and fresh coffee. YUM!

I just wanted a rooster but I am glad we have the hens. At the moment, we don’t have a rooster! Anyway, we let our chickens free range. Having chickens brings back memories of being at my grandparents’ house. They had at least fifty hens. I enjoyed gathering the eggs at her house. Once, Grandma and I found an egg lying on the ground without the hard shell. It was strange.

Hearing a rooster first thing in the morning, reminds me of working on the farm.

Hope your day is full of sunshine!
