7 Friends You'll want to have

The Pen-Is-Mightier-Than-The-Sword
Swallower – This is usually another writer and they know exactly how you
feel when you want to tear the book you’re working on to bits. They talk you
off that ledge and remind you that first drafts get to suck because editing
exists.

The Booze Magician –
we all know that person. The one who has something alcoholic on them at all
times or at least knows

IWSG: Ocean or Puddle

Writing is like crossing the ocean, not hopping a puddle.

That is something I have to remind myself constantly.
There times when things go smoothly, when the surface of the sea seems flat and
everything is sun and salt… and there are times when waves will take you high
on a crest and drop you right back down into a trough where all you can see is
water and though you’re still breathing,

Out Today: Manners & Mutiny, Bazaar of Bad Dreams....

Manners and Mutiny
by Gail Carriger –

If one must
flirt...flirt with danger.

Lessons in the art of espionage aboard Mademoiselle Geraldine's floating
dirigible have become tedious without Sophronia's sweet sootie Soap nearby. She
would much rather be using her skills to thwart the dastardly Picklemen, yet
her concerns about their wicked intentions are ignored, and now she's not sure

Getting Used to the “New”

So I’ve been doing the 90% pre-scheduled blog thing for a
month now, and it’s been going pretty well (at least I think so.)

There’s always room for improvement, and I’ll be making some
changes here and there. As always, I’m open to any suggestions. Never hurts to
get outside opinions. Yours matter to me.

The Good:
It’s been nice to have things scheduled out ahead of time
and only have two

Every Sunday, I’ll be posting a grab bag of links I’ve found helpful throughout the week. Some of them will be from the week prior, others might be older – you never know what you’ll find floating around the interweb. Here’s what I’ve got this week:

7 Things Writers Should Do on Halloween

Hand out Books
instead of Candy – There are a lot of allergies out there anymore so
navigating the peanut infested candy bowls of Halloween can be downright scary
for some kids and their parents. Make it easy for everyone, hand out books instead!

Dress up like your
favorite character – Emphasis on YOUR character. Make sure it’s someone you’ve
created, that way, when anyone asks who you

New Covers & A First Look

My newsletter subscribers already know this, but….

It was time for a change.

As much as I love the old covers for their subtlety, it
was clear that the covers themselves weren’t getting the point across. So, I
started working on a change.

Among the things that came up when I asked people about
the covers was that it was difficult to tell they were SF from the thumbnail. I
totally get that, so
