How to Pronounce DOES & DOES – American English Heteronym Pronunciation Lesson
Learn how to pronounce the words DOES & DOES with this American English heteronym pronunciation lesson. Heteronyms are words that are spelled exactly the same. They just have a different pronunciation and a different meaning.
Pronunciation:Noun: /doʊz/
Verb: /dʌz/
Definition:Noun: more than one female deer
Verb: to perform
Transcript:Hi there! Jennifer from Tarle speech with your Friday heteronym lesson.
Heteronyms are words that are spelled the same but they have different meanings and different pronunciations. Our words today are does which means performs and does which is more than one female deer.
So we are going to start with that same D sound. To do this touch the tip of the tongue to the spot where the teeth meet the skin on the roof of your mouth. Air puffs out. Voice box is on and moving. We’re going to end with the z sound for both of these. To do this, the tip of your tongue is either pointed down, or is behind the top front teeth that is not touching. Air continuously moves out of the mouth. Your voice box is on and moving.
Now for the vowels this is the difference. For does which means to perform, we are going to add that short uh sound. You can see my mouth is relaxed, my tongue is relaxed, and that vowel just puffs out.
And then for o, I open my mouth and then I move to a pucker. As I do this, the tip of my tongue starts low in my mouth, and then ends flat in the middle of the mouth.
Let’s put these all together.
does does does
does does does
does does does does
And now for a sentence:
Does the salt lick attract lots of does?

Give it a try, I know people are going to notice the difference. If you found this helpful, please share this with your friends, give us a like, don’t forget to subscribe, and check out our products at tarle speech.

Homophones are words that are pronounced the same but they have different spellings and different meanings. Our words today are hurts which means to cause pain or injury and hurt it is an SI unit of frequency equaling one second or a rental car chain in the U.S.
To say these words correctly we have four sounds. Let’s start with that h sound. Super easy for the h. Open your mouth and let the air just continue out. Sounds kind of like a sigh. Next, we’re going to move to that ER. I’m writing that two letters equaling one sound. To say an ER, square tense lips, tip of the tongue is down, or it is flipped back, back of the tongue is always pulled up, tongue is not touching any of the teeth in the mouth. ER.
Then touch the tip of the tongue to the back of the top front teeth for that t. And then pull it down for the s. Tip of the tongue is either down or behind the top front teeth. It’s not touching so the air can move out of the mouth.
Let’s put it all together:
