International Day Against Homphobia

Here’s to the classic movies that we never grow tired of ~ Jill Badonsky
Have you seen the movie Cousins from 1989 with Ted Danson and Isabella Rossellini? Danson and Rossellni play cousins by marriage who fall in love while pretending to do so to get back at their philandering spouses. It’s a beautiful romance, I bawl all throughout the movie, especially the end.
I didn’t see Cousins until about seven or eight years after it came out. I fell in love it with it instantly. I now watch the movie probably about three or four times a year. It seems like it’s a summer favorite, I don’t know why that is.
When I see it now, it is a trip back to the 1980s when hair was big, shoulder pads were the rage, and peg leg jeans were the bomb. At heart, it’s still a beautiful story.
It’s a movie I never grow tired of, even though I can probably recite the script at this point. Just like other classic movies, I don’t care that it didn’t do well at the box office or if it had blockbuster DVD sales. I only care that for the next moment, I can be transported into Larry and Maria’s story once more.
On this International Day Against Homophobia, just remember life is like these classic movies. It’s not necessarily about our past, but about our present. What are we doing today to help live our lives openly and happy, free from hate and persecution.
And what are we doing to prevent harassment of others?

Cover Reveal: Disappear With Me

Here is the new cover for Disappear With Me, available from Amber Quill Press on May 31! Isn't it lovely?
Here is a bit more about Disappear With Me:
In 1910, the United Kingdom was in turmoil. King Edward died after only nine years on the throne. The social class system that upheld British society for centuries was being chipped away by social, political, and economic unrest across the Commonwealth. Amidst this backdrop, Reverend Leander Norris is accused of sodomy. After discovering his own self-worth and the meaning of unconditional love, Leander finds the courage to stand up for what he believes is right and pleads not guilty to the charges.
Throughout the trial, Leander’s past is revealed, including the temptations that bring the accusations against him. By the end of the trial, Leander is once again reunited with a romantic interest from the past. It may be too late to rekindle any love that remains, given the circumstances of the era and Leander’s likely sentence.
Love is greater than hope or faith, but can Leander convince a jury that the love he shares with another man is natural?

I'd love to hear what you think of the new cover!

Balance

Just don’t give up on trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong ~ Ella Fitzgerald
Balance, balance, balance…I’m having some issues with NSEDJ (not so evil day job, I really do love working for the people I do) and getting my writing editing done. Even as I write this during the week before Saturday, I am not going into the office until noon today. But as soon as I am done with some writing chores, I will crack open the laptop and work on some projects.
I am trying. I make lists of the most important tasks that need to get done and then focus on those in the time I have in the morning and in the evenings. It’s all a delicate balance.
What other tips do you have for maintaining balance in our busy lives?
