Interview with author Katie Reus!

Thanks so much to Marie for having me here on her blog today!
*When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Years ago I’d finished college after changing majors a few times because I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. I almost majored in business, then education and finally settled with psychology because I was fascinated by what makes people tick. I couldn’t get a job in my field though without a Masters and I wasn’t ready to go back to school so took jobs I hated until finally, I read this book that changed everything for me. I really connected with the female protagonist in it because she was so lost trying to figure out what she wanted to do with her life (just like me) and at the end of the book she decided to follow her dreams and become a writer. It was like that proverbial light bulb went off and I realized what I wanted to do. Getting published obviously wasn’t simple but when that realization hit, I didn’t let anything stop me.

*Do you have any favorite author that inspired your own writing?
I don’t know that they necessarily inspired me, but writers that I enjoy in the same genre I write are Linda Howard and Cynthia Eden. I love the conflict and push/pull of their main characters. They write really strong male and female characters who are not only believable but likeable, even with tons of flaws.

*Favorite spot in the World?
My office on a quiet morning with a full cup of coffee is probably my favorite spot ;)

*I love your marine/navy seals heroes. What is your inspiration when you write your military heroes?:)
My husband was in the Marine Corps so when I wrote my first book I don’t know if it was subconscious but my first hero had a military background. And every book since then I’d say 99% of my heroes (and some of my heroines) have had military backgrounds. Some of my paranormal heroes don’t (not in the typical sense, but they’re all warriors of a sort) but 100% of my romantic suspense books do. I think there’s something incredibly noble about the men and women who put on a uniform to defend their country for very little pay and benefits, and I like writing about people who are much braver then I’ll ever be.

*How many books are planned in the Red stone Security series? And in your other series?
The 9th book in the series comes out on September 1 (Under His Protection) and honestly, it’s really open-ended at this point. I originally had planned on 6 books, thinking that would be good, but readers keep asking for more and I’m in love with the world. So as long as the ideas are fresh and my readers still love the series then I’m going to keep writing about my Red Stone people. They’re such a fun group and I’m really excited about this newest addition. As far as my other series, I just signed on for two more books in my Deadly Ops series so that makes it 5 total for now plus 1 novella. My Darkness series only has two out now but the reception for my recent release, Taste of Darkness, has been great so I think there will be at least 2 or 3 more. In a sense, it’s often up to reader reception of my series so most of them are open-ended at this point.

*I'm a fan from Sweden and I have to ask; any plans on visiting some day?:)
I would love to visit Sweden! It’s one of the countries on my ‘to visit’ list. In addition to Sweden I’d really like to visit Scotland, Norway, Romania and Greece.
Again, thank you so much for having me here today!
