I grew up on a cattle ranch in Wyoming
where I was home-schooled through eighth
grade and my rapport with animals was nourished. I owned and rode horses from
the time I was seven years old. My talent
for writing and art developed very early as did my awareness that I would be a writer.

Since we were so isolated, I found great
solace in books. My mother drove to the
nearest town every week so sell eggs and
dressed poultry which gave me the chance
to visit the library for a large stack of
books to entertain me until the next trip.
When I wasn't doing my lessons or reading,
I rode my favorite horse Jill through the
pastures of adjoining ranches.

After graduation from high school in Gillette, I decided to study journalism
at Casper College where I was the fir

A RAT AND A RANSOM by Y I LEE

I recently read YI Lee's YA novel A RAT AND
A RANSOM. I loved this enchanting tale about a boy and his rat caught in a caper
in England. This book is extremely well-written. Although I've never
been a big fan of rats, after meeting the
engaging Mask, I found myself becoming
very open to the notion of befriending a
lovable rat. I give A RAT AND A RANSOM,
FIVE STARS. Read more of this blog post »

“It doesn't matter what people call you unless they call you pigeon pie and eat you up.”
Evelyn Waugh, Brideshead Revisited

“I want the reader to understand, that at this time I had a good experience, a pure heart, was full of the love of God, but was not qualified for God's work. I knew that I was but a worm. God would have to take a worm to thresh a mountain. Then I asked God to give me the power he gave the Galilean fishermen - to anoint me for service. I came like a child asking for bread. I looked for it... God did not disappoint me. The power of the Holy ghost came down like a cloud. It was brighter than the sun. I was covered and, wrapped in it. I was baptized with the Holy Ghost, and Fire, and power, which has never left me. There was liquid fire, and the angels were all around me in fire and glory.”
Maria Woodworth-Etter

“The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good, and how he treats people who can't fight back.”
