Even after a decade, the life that journalist Brent Walsh and Milwaukee homicide detective Shawn Mackey have made together is far from boring. But when a new case cuts a weekend getaway short, they aren’t quite prepared for how it will impact their personal lives. Suddenly there’s too much to juggle: Shawn will be working the case of the sharpshooter who is trying to infect random people with HIV, Brent needs to cover the story but fears a conflict of interest, one of Shawn’s colleagues is attracted to him, and Brent sincerely needs to mend the painful break with his childhood best friend, Ollie, and heal their broken hearts.

Though the case comes to a close, it’s not the end of their troubles. Shawn and Brent still face a past of old white lies, a present possibility of inviting another man to their bed, and a future with children, not to mention health issues and national fallout from the case. It’s enough to make them want to run away—until they realize they have to face those challenges head-on so they can get on with the life of love they’re hoping for.

Review:

Brent is Poz (HIV Positive) while his life partner, Shawn, is not. The current case that Shawn is working, and Brent is torn up over, centers on a series of attacks using HIV+ blood by an unknown sniper. As the story continues, you find out how Brent became Poz, and how that guilt taints the life he and Shawn have, along with their possible future. You also find out not just who the “bad guy” is, but, I at least, could even see the twisted logic behind the ‘why’.

There are many twists and turns throughout the story, but they serve to both enhance the readers experience and to help these partners embrace their life and love as a happily married couple. Watching as Brent and Shawn grow as a couple, overcoming fears and forgiving past hurts, was a special treat. The two men are hot, loving, sweet, and truly perfect for one another,—when they aren’t letting their own fears get in the way, that is.

Positive is an engaging story that pulls you along with great characters as they work through not only a bizarre series of attacks, but in their personal lives as well. I recommend this book to any who love a bit of a twisted mystery, a good romp in between the sheets, and true self reflection and growth.

*Despite the M/M/M tag on Dreamspinner’s website, there’s only one scene of M/M/M (which is HOT!) The book is M/M with a long-time, committed relationship in the center. So don’t let the M/M/M scare you! :)

About the Author:

Tia Fielding is a 30-year-old Scandinavian. She is a self-proclaimed “queer girl”, lover of everything pretty, witty people, words, cats, sarcasm, autumn, and caffeine.

She uses her nights with her head in the clouds and her feet on the coffee table, right next to her laptop. Her days? She uses those by sleeping way too much.

Tia started writing stories early on, almost as soon as she learned how to write. The early stories about horses and ghosts have changed into romantic tales about people in love. She stopped writing at some point in her late teens and early twenties, but began again a few years ago, after finding fan fiction. Tia is not ashamed of her past of borrowing other people’s characters, but has found creating her own much more satisfying.

Weekend Writing Warriors: Temptations of Desire

With Designs of Desire having just released, I though some of you might like to get a peek into one of the next stories in the series, Temptation of Desire.
[Please note: this is an unedited WIP snippet that was modified to fit the 8 sentence rule, lol]

Temptations of Desire is the journey of Officer Dal Sayer, a police officer, and Alex Noble, a sexy, gender fluid man. Can Dal embrace who Alex truly is inside and out? And, can Alex trust in Dal and their burgeoning feelings so they can find their HEA?

Dal smoothed the tight, dark green spandex T-shirt down, tucking it into his low rise black jeans, buttoning and buckling them. He stood debating if he should leave the five o’clock shadow on his jaw or if he should shave, when the buzz of his intercom went off, startling him. He pressed the button and David’s voice came through, “You ’bout ready ta go? We want to get there before all the cute guys are taken.”

“Yeah, yeah, keep your pants on, I’ll be right down,” Dal replied. He quickly grabbed his keys and wallet. After a moments thought, he sprinted to his nightstand and grabbed a couple of condoms and a travel packet of lube—just in case. After shoving everything into his pockets he hurried down to meet David and Sammy.

I hope you enjoyed this little snippet. Temptation of Desire will be back next Sunday to tease you a little more.

Temptation of Desire is the third story in the Desires Entwined series. Book #1, Designs of Desire, was released on July 29th. You can find out more about Temptation of Desire or Designs of Desire, by clicking on their names.

Domestic Abuse & Finding Your HEA by Tempeste O’Riley, Author of Designs of Desire

Reblogged from House Millar

Domestic Abuse & Finding Your HEA

First I would like to thank Áine and the House Millar for hosting “Designs of Desire” and me, the author, today. In my novel, “Designs of Desire”, one of the MC’s has sadly suffered both domestic abuse and sexual assault—thankfully before the story starts, but for James, the victim, the abuse is never far away.

For me, one of the things I wanted to show in this story is that …

Poems About Life, Love, and Everything in Between

“Poems About Life, Love, and Everything in Between” is a poetry collection that provides a glimpse into the heart, mind and soul, of its author. It is a heart-warming read, written with love and respect for others. Some poems were written in times of sorrow, other poems were written in times of joyous celebration. Life if like that.

Never Give Up

For as long as I can remember, I have had an artistic flare-whether that be for writing, painting, sewing or drawing. I recall as a child how much I enjoyed drawing. The writing came later. My seventh grade English teacher was Mrs. Henderson-a young mother and wife. She gave us a writing assignment and after gifting me with an A+ told me I should consider writing as a career. She meant as a journalist. I did not take her advise and become a journalist (one of my many misgivings). My mind went toward other things as many young girls dream of-a husband, home, and family of my own. I put my love for writing and painting on hold for years. I unfortunately married a man who like my mother never encouraged me to be artistic. It was not until my children were grown and I no longer had a husband, that I went back to my first love-art. It got a late start, but always encouraged my children and others to partake of artistic endeavers.

I now have four book under contract with Melange Books, and three publishing houses vying for my biography true crime novel, “The Crime of the Century.” So my words to you all, is that no matter what road you choose, never forget your passion, and always keep it close to heart. Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from enjoying your natural talents. You might need to put art on a temporary hold, but don’t ever, ever, give up.

Sample poem from "Poems About Life, Love, and Everything in Between"

THAT SHALLOW STREAM

That shallow stream we once knew.
Is now the victim of late unused.
Its once glimmering waters held,
childhood joys and life abound.
The bottom full of sand and mud,
became victim to the sun-dried dust.
Once gleaming sprouting green,
surrounded its banks as high as knees.
Then Mother Nature swallowed her whole,
leaving nothing behind to serve or please.
Now one’s feet shall wade no more.
Where once sweet water ran swift and clean.
No longer quenches thirsty deer and boar.
So when one comes back to see,
the place where fish swam and jumped,
finds only sorrow instead of glee.
In joyous thoughts of yesteryear,
memories hold tight to what was dear.
Like gazing in an ageless mirror,
a withered stream can be no more.
