Review – Trouble Has A New Name by Adite Banerjie
Trouble Has A New Name is the second Harlequin offering from Adite Banerjie. I was looking forward to reading Adite’s second book and she didn’t disappoint.
The author has put her own spin on the fake engagement trope well loved by romance readers all over the world. Rayna is your quintessential fall guy heroine who has sworn off men because of an affair gone sour but still falls despite herself for the hot hotelier Neel. Neel is handsome and successful but has his own share of problems weighing him down. With a gorgeous setting like the Andaman islands and the big fat Indian wedding going on in the background, a roller coaster of events starts to unfold. In the midst of them, Rayna and Neel’s romance touchingly takes shape. I found myself wanting to know the resolution of their troubles.
The multiple characters seem to take over at certain places and blur the focus on central romance. But deft writing on the part of the author manages to bring the spotlight back.
Overall an enjoyable and fun read in a colourful setting. Looking forward to more from Adite Banerjie.
I rate this book five stars for the easy, flip-through reading it made.

She was hired by a filmmaker to write a feature script based on a true story. When she penned her first romantic short story she won the 2012 Harlequin Passions Aspiring Authors Contest. Two of her books, The Indian Tycoon’s Marriage Deal and Trouble Has a New Name have been published by Harlequin India. And she is currently under contract to write two more for the same publisher. Get to Know – Author Ruchira Khanna
Today I have on my blog author Ruchira Khanna talking about all things writing and life in general. Please give her a warm welcome. Let’s get to know her through this question-answer session.
Q:Tell us something about yourself and how you got into writing?
Officially trained to be a biochemist, and worked in the lab for approximately ~7 years. Then could not step out of the home after the delivery of my kid. Blame it on the emotional attachment. Mind was at rest while at home, and could think beyond me-myself, which initiated the awareness around me. This was the foundation or the stepping stone of writing a few words each day. Thus, a writer was evolved.
Q: Your experience of writing a book – easy as pie or hard as nails?
Honestly, I did not plan much for my debut novel. I joined in the wagon of NaNoWriMo with a concept of Destiny. Now, call it fate for myself that my thoughts could evolve while writing in the month of November into a 50K words novel.
Q: What motivates you to write?
Pain, Agony is my motivator. I get goose bumps when I see them around, and unfortunately there is plenty thus, motivating me 24/7.
Q: What inspired you to write this book?
This topic is close to all our hearts. We all wanna venture onto a path that will lead to happiness n success. But, then it is either dependant on our kismet or the choices we make. Thus, the concept came up!
The society is my inspiration. So far, all have either cribbed/vented over this issue. Thus, thought of tackling it with a story that can help calm our heart and mind over the choices we make in our respective lives.
Q: Please describe your book briefly.
Book Choices gives us a peek into the lives of Mateo and Albert on the choices they were forced to make, but are happy to make a life out of it, and help sustain the expenditure of their families. It gives a brief look into the lives of immigrants on how these men over the turn of events are prepared to cement their passion out over their responsibilities and their priorities.
Then I take the reader upon the journey of a young boy, Leonardo, who has a passion for something. His whole life revolves around that strong interest, but along the way he comes at a cross-road that makes him ponder over the fire within versus the stuff that gives him joy and satisfaction.
I hope the reader can connect with those thoughts!
Q: Tell us about the main characters in your book.
Leonardo is a young boy who got to see a lot of harsh realities as a kid, thus he has no apprehensions but to look within and concentrate on his passions and make sure he fulfills them. The book takes the reader on a journey of this boy’s life where he reaches the crossroads of life, and he has to make a choice with regards to his future.
Q: How do you overcome writer’s block?
I do nothing about it, and actually enjoy that empty space within me!
Q: Does writing get in your way of life?
I need my space when I write. Thus, weekends are my most challenging time to pen down words. I used to vent about it, but now I have just given up writing over the holidays.
Q: What’s next in your writing plans?
Working on a novel that encircles around hope!

His words took her completely by surprise. Did he mean it? Nah! He’s just toying with you!

The cold look in his eyes and the awkward silence that followed made her jittery.

She was fused to the spot, rooted by his touch, his gaze. She involuntarily leaned a little closer to him. Her lips were a heartbeat away from his.
His breath was on her lips as he whispered in a husky voice, ‘Your brother should have warned you… you get burnt if you play with fire.’ And then he let her go.

: How long have you been writing?
I seriously began to write about three years before I got published. Off and on I have beenwriting throughout my life. In some distant future I saw myself seriously taking up writing. Then one day, the question just popped at me: why not today? So I asked my targeted publisher, Harlequin, if they would accept Indian author submission and found that they were actually holding a contest for Indian writers. That was a lucky break. I submitted an entry and went on to win the contest as well as an opportunity to get published with them.
Question : What was the name of the first book you ever published, and when was it published?
My debut book is ‘Bollywood Fiance For A Day’and it was published in September, ’13. It’s American edition is being released in June, ‘14
Question : Was this book published by a publisher; or did you self-publish?
It’s published under Indian AUthor Collection as print edition and is being released by Harlequin E as an eBook with a new cover.
Question
: Tell our readers about this very first book. (For example: What was the inspiration for writing it, and what was it about)?
The story I wrote for the contest starred a Bollywood actor and a serious minded doctor who just had her engagement broken by none other than her own sister. When I wrote the book, Zahir, the hero, became a hotshot with a careless attitude who rubs the jilted heroine the wrong way. But beneath the surface, he has his own shares of troubles and hurts that life has dealt him. Will Vishakha find out the real persona beneath the reel one?
I was inspired to write a Bollywood hero because I’m a fan of the song-dance-mix Bollywood films. Vishakha became a doctor, maybe because of my own medical background.

Author Interview Series: Interview 2: Dr Ruchi Vasudeva
Dear readers,
On the interview today we have Dr Ruchi Vasudeva. She can be described as a doctor by profession, a teacher by vocation and an author by destiny. Her inspiration to pen a story came, when as a teen, she read a call for manuscripts at the back of a Mills and Boon novel and began to plot and write. She wanted to do English literature and medical studies for her graduation with almost the same amount of enthusiasm. However, the writing dream got lost while she pursued medical studies. Years later, a contest held by Harlequin for Indian authors gave her a golden opportunity to have her dream realized. She debuted in August ’13 with ‘Bollywood Fiancé for a Day’ and this was followed by ‘You can’t fight a Royal Attraction’ in December 2013 by Harlequin.

At the outset, could you please tell the readers about yourself?
Thanks for having me on your blog. You have capped most of the info in my bio. Writing has always been a hobby but it wasn’t till I began to write with the effort to get published that I realized how tough it really is. Understanding the craft which is a never ending process is difficult in itself and getting published traditionally is definitely a challenge but in addition to that nowadays authors have to concentrate on marketing as well, so actually it is two professions combined in one. Maybe, more. So it was a shock that the leisure time was almost gone and in addition had to give up on many things which annoyed a lot of people I can tell you. It took a while to find balance and to tell you the truth it’s still mostly tilted. Time management is the toughest thing to face if you add writing to the life you’re already living.
You always wanted to write, how does it feel to have two titles published in five months?
Absolutely fabulous. When you have the book out there – had to pinch myself many times – people actually buying it, nothing can beat the feeling! Two books out one after the other was a stroke of luck one can just thank the stars for. Definitely I’ll always savour the feeling!
Did you have writer’s block?
I did, a couple of times during the writing of the first book. That’s when I realized that writer’s block is nothing but laziness combined with the inability to properly understand
the characters’ motivations. I’d read back on all that I had written and usually found that I was able to get back on the track. With the second book, I had a tight deadline and nothing was permitted to stand in the way. Maybe the experience I had garnered during the writing of the first book helped.
I know it is difficult for an author to choose between her books, but which of the two, is closer to your heart?
It is difficult but now that you’ve asked, I’d pick You Can’t Fight A Royal Attraction. That story seemed to simply flow from my fingertips, and I really enjoyed writing Rihaan and Saira’s steamy interaction
Any special/ favourite character from among Vishakha, Zaheer; Saira and Rihaan?
While all of them are quite special to me – they’ve been talking in my head for so long! – however Zaheer is quite a favourite. The readers too comment that he’s quite captivating. I like that he has an answer to everything while putting a different spin on the given situation.
What were the challenges faced while writing the book?
Mostly time. When the story is humming in your mind, it’s hard to tear your mind from it and concentrate instead, on the daily life business. However one has to accept that however your Muse would like to, you cannot finish a project in a day…Also writing has to take a backseat to mundane but unavoidable routine!
The other challenge was coping with the direction of the story in which characters seemed to take charge early on. The vague plan in my head went ashambles but I’m not complaining because the final product was better than I imagined :)
How do you manage to take out time to write from your busy schedule?
I started by writing after work and on weekends. I have quite a bit of time when I commute so I shifted my files onto my BlackBerry and was able to type on the go. That really added to productivity. I learnt not to wait for the scheduled time for writing. I’ve written in the bus, in the car, the kitchen while waiting for food to cook, even jotted down ideas while in a queue. I’ve written rough drafts of 9-10 books this way. Let’s see when they alight in front of the readers.
