Take me to the Ocean
Waiting by the ocean
Waiting by the shore
Clouds are hanging, cloaking
Sunlight, grey and raw.
Beach lies glinting wetly
Tide breaks like a sigh
Pebbles crackling, crunching
‘Neath the slate tile sky
Winkles, whelks and starfish
Rays and sprays and gulls
Bladderwrack and mermaids purse
Crannies, nooks and pools.
Take me to the ocean
Take me to the shore
Where earth meets sea meets sky
I couldn’t ask for more.

Soteira: The Song
A while ago I wrote a poem as part of a devotional month of work undertaken by many devotees of Hekate. Titled Soteira, I always intended to turn it into a song, however the poetic structure didn’t quite fit with the music that came to me, so it’s had a bit of a rewrite. Musical version to follow shortly!
Mirror to my soul
Your twin lights guide me
When I can’t decide
Which path is right
Guardian of my goals
Each step excites me
Leaping in the dark
The joy of night
Cosmic world soul
Heart of the universe…
The thought and the word
The void and the atom
The step and the leap
The tears and the joy.
The spark of the seeker inside my soul;
The spark of the seeker inside.
Listening to your voice
Each time it teaches
Stretching from the stars
To touch my mind
Grasping for hand
My spirit reaches
Heart is in my mouth
Each time I find
Voice of heaven
Earth, sea and sky…
The thought and the word
The void and the atom
The step and the leap
The tears and the joy.
The spark of the seeker inside my soul;
The spark of the seeker inside.
Wound in the web
Tiny lights in the dark
Compassion and kindness
We make our mark
Give me the courage
Oh give me the strength
To rise and strike a spark
Cosmic world soul
Heart of the universe…
The thought and the word
The void and the atom
The step and the leap
The tears and the joy.
The spark of the seeker inside my soul;
The spark of the seeker inside.
Mind heart and mouth
And tears on my brow
You’re pulling me onwards
You’re giving me hope
The spark of the seeker inside my soul;
The spark of the seeker inside.

Not in Bed
I should have put
Her back in cot
I should have shut
My eyes
I should have laid
In covers hot
Instead I stayed
And smiled
Into tiny sleeping face
Into heart, toughness and grace
Thinking, ‘This is your place’
My arms, hardly the comfiest bed
Yet you are peaceful
As I bow my happy head.
Who’d be a writer?
Put this pen to paper
Take it back
Make it crack
Spill the ink
Like blood
Sign my life away
Sign my soul
To the devil
In the details.

Bat
Flappy, happy scrap of night
Black against blue
Joyous in flight
Like me you love
The warm twilight.

Better
Lit so blue
A hue
Of happiness
No less
No stress
There’s mess
But we don’t care
Grab hair
Share the
Ouches
Slouches on a
Sunday
Me and baby
Out in the sun
Two that were one
Better this way.

Spring Storm
[image error]
Picture was taken in the middle of the night, the light is from lightning alone.
Heat and light and fight!
Spars strike at stars
Scars cut the sky
As lightning flies
And cuts and fries
The crowding clouds
Clamouring for more
Rain beats the drums
Thrums heartbeat hums
Through grass and
Stone and
Soil
Boil the heavens!
Bring sky to earth
A dearth
Of divine wrath
The aftermath
So calm,
So still
We hold our breath
Are we in the eye?

Chemical Wonderful
He says
Chemical Fresh
My eyes widen
What a term
A germ
Of genius
Genuine wonder
At spring’s youth
We blunder
Through each day
Crazy and way
Out of line
But smell that
Chemical wonder
Tear me asunder
With laughter
Tears
And pollen.

The Optimist Haiku
The bottle is full
Of air, of liquid; of dreams;
Possibilities.

The Language of Weather
[image error]
I speak in raindrops
Wet and wild
Whipping tears
To join me
But sometimes
Pitter pattering
On tent walls
Soothing
Dream like
Tiny heartbeats.
I wail in wind
Tornado tantrums
Testy twister
Throwing; hurling
Except sometimes
I take a kite
Gently, expertly
Earth
To sky
Hearts rising.
I scream in sunbeams
Scorching deserts
Sandy lands
Desperate; dry
Only sometimes
I dry the wings
Of a dampened
Butterfly
Flap, beat
Chaos reigns again.
