NaPoWriMo Day 22: NaPoWriMo Blues

I got behind… again

I got distracted… again

There was other stuff going on… again

Like last year

When I didn’t finish

And the year before

When I barely finished

So why

This year of all years

When there is more reason than ever

To be stressed

To be less creative

To excuse the barren salt plains

Of my beating brain

Do I feel so shit about

Being behind…

Again.

NaPoWriMo Day 21: Lockdown Blues

It almost seems

Pathetic

To complain

When we have a roof

A house

Money coming in- less, mind

So much less

And no help from on high

Thanks to creeping criteria

And tape not so much red

As blue-blood coloured

Fuck the Tories

Fuck the Tories

Fuck the Tories

But that aside,

We’re doing ok

We really are

Our kids are alive

Thriving with

Words and number and music and art

Hardly as full of education

As at school

We don’t pump, we trickle

More of a well-worn spring than a gushing geyser

Of knowledge.

But we’re doing ok,

I write, he does

Most everything else

I talk with friends

We drink

We laugh

So why

Do these tears creep

Creep in the night

Creep out of my Judas eyes

Down my face

Into my throbbing heart.

Discrimination Against Pagans

Religious discrimination is not something anyone should have to tolerate. Please take a moment to lodge a complaint about this disgusting display of intolerance and ignorance from gutter tag, The Sun. Unsurprising behaviour from them, but it will NOT be tolerated.

NaPoWriMo Day 20: Stallion Moon

My nine year old wrote

Of the pale moon gracefully

Riding stallion clouds.

I begged him for it

That magical phrase, just to

Say how proud I am.

NaPoWriMo Day 19: ASMR

I decided to write about things I love

Things that move me

Change me

Settle me

Heartily aware

Of the potential narcissism

Of ME ME ME

But here we go…

ASMR

Sits in my heart

A triumph of tingles

From my scalp to my toes

I get the whole range

The tickly head

The shivers down the neck

The goose-bumps across the back

There’s no knack

You either feel it

Or you don’t

And it makes me so happy

That I do

So thank you JoJo

Maria

Gibi

Madi

Thank you for treading Softly in Galoshes

Or keeping the Rift Ephemeral

Thank you for Red’s Whispers

Woodland walks

Lakeside talks

Antique shops

Ticking tapping clocks

And catalogues

And brushes for canvases and faces

And all those different, fascinating places

Thank you for my sleepy feels

Thank you, Goodnight Moon.

Beltane at Home

I celebrate Beltane from sunset tonight, May eve, throughout tomorrow- and even into the weekend at times. It’s a festival of fire, of creativity, of passion and of hope for the coming summer. Unable to attend festivals or gather with friends, there are still ways to celebrate and enjoy the season from home, as detailed in the Bad Witch’s Blog’s recent post.

How will you be celebrating this year?

NaPoWriMo Day 18: Glass

Is it animal, vegetable, or mineral?

We’re playing twenty questions

And the boy can’t quite figure out

If glass is one of the three

Or none

One or none

Or some of all

It’s mineral

I say, without thinking

But then I do think

I think of the sea, the beach

The tiny creatures bashed to oblivion

By wild waves

Flecks of kelp and bladderwrack

Preserved forever

And I realise his confusion

Has way more merit

Than my certainty.

NaPoWriMo Day 17: Black Eyes

Crawling out of swamps

Dripping metaphors

Like similes

That sear the skin

Scream off

Siren wails and

Black eyes pierce

The bard’s heart

A bobbing larynx

Gulping at tightness

In throat.

Waiting with a lute,

Waiting to write of fear

Instead, song upon song

Of glowing white hair

And night-sky deep black eyes.

A Celtic Witch

Mabh Savage
