Sometimes, we have to put ourselves out there because it will benefit others. As I struggle inside my body today, I’ve decided to do that. This isn’t an easy post to write, nor will it be an easy post to read – but I hope that you will.

Sunday Synopsis
Got my oil changed (full 50K maintenance)…damn…that took a month of procrastination to accomplish and four hours at the Lexus dealership. They did feed me breakfast and lunch, and provided diet cokes and water. I had my iPad with me so I caught up on some reading.
What am I reading, you ask? Misha Burnett’s Catskinner’s Book and Cannibal Hearts. My husband already read them both, and thoroughly enjoyed. I am introducing him to indies and he is more than impressed. I am just getting started with the books myself. What a wonderful imaginatively creative author. Intriguing. That’s all I am going to say about that just now. Get your copies.
My post Valentine’s Day sale with ENT did very well moving a couple of hundred books, but in the category of literary fiction, not historical fiction. Something tells me these people may be harsher in reviews. A friend of a nursing friend posted my first two star review on Amazon. It is tacky. I am over it.
I finally jumped off the tree limb, spread my wings, and joined Twitter. I started out clueless and would like to apologize to any of the folk I possibly annoyed the hell out of while I was adjusting to this platform. BTW, I am still adjusting, so this is a proactive apology as well. My Twitter address, I think, is https://twitter.com/sknicholls1 if you would dare to follow me.
I neglected my blog as I did some babysitting and went out and about town. We were supposed to go to the beach today, but I may go alone later this week. My husband grew up on the beach and loves the water. We are boat people, but he is not so fond of hanging out on the beach. He says that it reminds him of lonely times in his life, so I am trying to change that, but he won’t let me. I don’t push.
There are now three independent book stores carrying three copies each of Red Clay and Roses. They will call me if they would like more/sell out. It seemed a lot of work to get onto shelves locally. Traffic is awful here in the city this time of year in Florida. I can’t imagine those nine copies really doing a lot to make a huge impact on sales. Possibly some local interest.
WHAT’S BLOOMING NOW?
Hot Pink Camellias
Peppermint Camellias: Not the prettiest blooms as they are beginning to fade.
Blooming cat, Boozer, performs eye roll.
Loquats are beginning to fruit. They are great off the tree or in salads.
Euphorbia ,”Crown of Thorns”, blooms year round.
WHAT’S UP FOR THIS WEEK?
More book deliveries.
More Tweeting. My GoodKindles promo was not successful at all, so I am also looking into others. It seems that I have to find someplace that has a few hundred thousand followers to move a couple hundred books. BookBub still won’t give me a chance.
I finally got my first chapter to my WIP ready for reading to my writers’ group. That will be Wednesday. Still not certain if the first paragraph works.
Go to the beach before it gets too hot.
Spray the never ending weeds.
Get the chemicals balanced in the pool.
All the regular household duties that I tend to neglect while I #amwriting.

Origins
For lack of creative inspiration and no insecurities to harp on, I decided to share some pics today. Went down to Lake Toho (short for Lake Tohopekaliga) and snapped this shot. I had a waterfront house on Lake Toho in Kissimmee, Florida, for a while. I would wake up in the morning and step out onto my back porch to the deafening sounds of waterfowl. There was also a noisy flock of green, yellow, blue and white wild parakeets that traversed from tree to tree across my backyard. The lake is famous for its birds, bass, alligators and turtles. Fourteen and half miles long, eight miles wide, but only 8 feet deep, it is a haven for Florida wildlife. On Lake Toho, I always had an eerie sense of an unseen spiritual presence…especially at night…a lady of the lake.
Lake Toho, no icicles, but plenty of Spanish moss.
The name, Tohopekaliga, means, “We will gather here at the fort or site,” in Seminole Indian language. The name Kissimmee came from the Seminole for, “Do not kill me!” shouted by women during raids on tribes up until around 1850. It amazes me that the older I get the less time it seems to have passed since those years. Just about two lifetimes at 82 years, 164 years total. That’s all.
Seminoles
My grandfather’s mother was a full-blooded Cherokee from North Carolina, who died in childbirth when he was born. It also amazes me how we have written them out of history books, the Native Americans of the southeast. Even church records listed his father’s second wife, a Culpepper from Ireland, as his mother. This was a church his family founded. The lies we live by.
Cherokees
This is the only picture I have of my father’s parents. Grandfather shows his Native American heritage even at ninety years old. Grandmother (note the clinched fists) was furious with me that I insisted on a photograph when she was not in her Sunday best. Wearing a mismatched shirt and polyester pants with house shoes, she was not at all happy with posing for this picture that I insisted upon. I am glad that I did.

What a Wild Concept
C.S. Boyack has just released “Wild Concept” into the world.

into the world, I probably ought to tell everyone what it’s about. I’ll do this in a blog friendly way, and not try to come up with some kind of blurb. I’m talking to friends here, right?
I always liked science fiction that I called “five minutes into the future”. (I may have stolen that from the old Max Headroom TV show. Yeah, I’m old.) This is the approach I took with this story.
I wrote this story about four or five years ago. With the appearance of Almost Human on TV, and a reboot of the Robocop franchise it feels like the right time to set it free.

The People’s Republic of Helena – A Kickstarter Manifesto
Kickstarter for indie author Helena Hann-Basquiat, dilettante.
Originally posted on Being the Memoirs of Helena Hann-Basquiat, Dilettante.:
I met Jim Squires (real name: Jim Squires) a few years ago at a comic book store on Queen Street in Toronto. I was searching for one of the last issues I was missing from Warren Ellis’
Authority
— I was going through my “Hey, let’s try bookbinding” phase, and I was trying to get the complete series. I caught Jim looking down my top and gave him a sly smile, which caused him to turn an adorable shade of cherry red. In his defence, I was wearing a shirt with the provocative caption THESE BOOBS ARE MADE FOR WATCHING printed on it (no, seriously — I had it custom made), so I didn’t hold it against him. He only wishes I had. This was back before Mrs. Jim was in the picture of course, and I swear, nothing happened between us (you really don’t want to get on Mrs. Jim’s bad side, darlings).
We got to talking and realized we knew some of the same people, and suddenly, I had an adjoining ring on my admittedly less than Olympian social circle. (Sorry, darlings, just trying to be topical.) We kept in touch, running into each other from time to time, both of us leading busy lives — me working on a career in self-pity and aimless wandering, while he somehow worked his way up to a job as the editor of a successful gaming website. Or gamer website. A website dedicated to people who play and develop video games.
Honestly, darlings, he’s tried to explain it to me, but my knowledge of gaming begins and ends with writing in extra zeroes on the $1 bills in Monopoly, ’cause who cares if you pay $5 or $6 dollars rent on Baltic? Or maybe that’s just the Canadian in me — there’s a reason we got rid of the penny, you know.
