Song of the Month: Chvrches, Better if You Don’t
The end of August saw the release of Chvrches’ fourth album, Screen Violence. I had pretty low expectations for this album; Love Is Dead was so good that there was simply nowhere to go but down.
Unfortunately, my low expectations proved justified. Screen Violence is easily the band’s weakest album to date. Still, with a band this good, even a weak album is going to have a few gems, and Screen Violence is no exception.
In this case, Better if You Don’t is the crown jewel of the album. It’s a bit of departure from their usual sound, leaning more on guitar than synth, but it absolutely works.

Song of the Month: Meg Myers, Numb
If you watch the YouTube videos for Meg Myers’ songs, you’ll see a lot of comments along the lines of, “How did I not know about her before now?!?!” Add me to that chorus.
After hearing a few of her songs on the radio, I decided to check her out in more detail, and proceeded to discover that she’s been around for nearly ten years and has produced almost nothing but absolute bangers the whole time. With a voice like this, it’s a wonder she’s not a household name.

DMs Guild: Enjoy a Summer Sale and Take a Cruise through Ravenloft
Today marks the release of Captain Snowmane’s Guided Cruise Through the Domains of Dread, a new collection of Ravenloft domains on Dungeon Masters Guild. Captain Snowmane’s features nine new domains by nine authors, including myself.
Included in the book are horrific realms such as Muulberry Pasture, where Otis the Tickle Pig harvests his human crop; Sumun, a dark fantasy land inspired by the epic of Gilgamesh; and my own domain of Belissia, a spiritual retreat with a smile on every face and terror in every heart.
Captain Snowmane’s will be $9.95 until July 31st only, so act fast if you want the best price on this holiday of horror.
While we’re on the subject of deals, Dungeon Masters Guild is also currently holding their Christmas in July sale, and all of my player options are currently 25%, including the Reanimator artificer and Demonic Bloodline sorcerer.

Song of the Month: Ferraro, You Look Good Like That
This song was a massive radio hit in my neck of the woods aways back. So much so that I got a bit burnt out on it. But that was a while ago now. I’m not sure what reminded me of this song, but when I started listening to it again, I was like, “Oh, yeah, it may have been over-exposed, but this is a pretty good song.”

Song of the Month: Of Monsters and Men, Destroyer
I don’t follow Of Monsters and Men as closely as I used to. Their more recent work generally doesn’t excite me as much as the earlier stuff.
Which is why it took me longer than it should have to pay attention to their new song, Destroyer. That’s a shame, because it bucks the trend of their newer stuff being less good. This song can easily stand with anything off My Head Is an Animal.

My latest release on Dungeon Masters Guild is a new Pact Boon for the warlock class, the Pact of the Coven!

Song of the Month: Metric, Stadium Love
I had a pretty memorable session of my Curse of Strahd D&D campaign over the weekend.
We were fighting a powerful boss (no spoilers), and my sorlock had run out of spell slots. So our Moon druid decided to come in and polymorph her into a giant ape. She was not thrilled.
Then it turns out that the boss also had shape-changing abilities, and it transformed into a T-rex, because of course it needs to be Godzilla versus Kong at that point. And then the aforementioned druid got in on the fun by becoming a giant elk.
After all that, I just had to listen to Stadium Love.
