“Available now” — music to my ears!

Hello, everyone — it’s almost impossible to believe, but Somewhere in France is on sale now, both in-store and online. It’s been a long road from the moment, nearly seven years ago, when I first dreamed of Lilly and her journey through the war, but at last I can share her story with all of you. Do let me know what you think of my book, and if you’d like a signed bookplate just send me an email (via the ‘contact’ link) with your name and mailing address and I’ll pop it in the post straight away. Many thanks for your interest in my work, and happy reading!

Early reviews for Somewhere in France

Hello everyone — it’s been a while since I posted any news, and in my absence some lovely reviews have come in for Somewhere in France.

Publishers Weekly has this to say:

“Robson’s first novel examines the dynamic between love and duty in the midst of historical tragedy [...] Robson’s skillful ability with detail and setting firmly relates the grotesqueries of war without gratuitous gore. Her deft touch as a storyteller keeps readers engaged in the story of the lovers, as well as illuminating the bigger picture of the war raging around them.”

The American Library Association’s Booklist also has words of praise:

“Robson’s first novel evocatively captures the feeling of the time as it follows the adventures of independent Lady Elizabeth “Lilly” Neville-Ashford [...] Robson intermingles the overarching themes of love, war, and societal strictures in this appealing read that should resonate with fans of Downton Abbey.”

And RT Reviews also loves it:

Downton Abbey fans will be thrilled to move beyond the estate and glimpse life on the front lines as Robson’s heroine bravely defies convention, becoming an ambulance driver and leaving class strictures far behind. With its accurate portrayal of the era, from the stately British mansions to the horrors of the Front, this powerful, touching novel is also a tribute to the brave men and women caught in the Great War. Robson’s debut is filled with history and realism yet still romantic.”

I’ll be back soon with details of events related to the launch of Somewhere in France — only five weeks to go!

Follow-up to Somewhere in France coming in 2015

It’s official: I’m writing a follow-up to SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE for William Morrow Paperbacks, an imprint of HarperCollins. Set in Liverpool just after the First World War, my as-yet-untitled work in progress tells the story of Charlotte Brown, one of the secondary characters from SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE. I’m working on it now and hope to have it ready for you by the beginning of 2015.

I knew all along, as I was writing SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE, that I wanted the indomitable Charlotte to have her own book — and now she will!

More advance praise for Somewhere in France

Lynn Sheene, author of “The Last Time I Saw Paris,” has this to say about SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE:

“Set in the turbulent years of the First World War, SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE is a heartfelt portrait of love, courage, and self-discovery. Robson deftly weaves a tale richly steeped in the atmosphere, drama and heroism of an evolving and war-torn world. A compelling and memorable read.”

I’m so grateful to Lynn–not only for her gracious words of praise, but also for taking the time to read SOMEWHERE IN FRANCE.

Welcome to my website!

It’s hard to believe that the publication date for Somewhere in France is only four months away. Just as exciting — I have a shiny new website, designed by the wonderful Shelley of Web Crafters Design, and will be posting updates on my works in progress, early reviews, and anything else that seems worthwhile to mention. I promise to have an excerpt to share with you very soon, as well as details of my upcoming blog tour and book signings that I’ll be attending over the coming year.

Thank you so much for visiting, and check back soon for more news.
