The Shipping News: Workbook Pre-Orders!

Dearests,

Years ago, there was a movie that was delicate and grey and strangely moving: The Shipping News.

It came out in 2001, the same year as I met and fell in love with my husband.

We moved in together, then moved to a university town for six months, before moving back to my small hometown. We got a little flat together and saved money for 9 months so we could move across the country to Canberra.

And because we were flat-ass broke while we scrimped and saved, it didn’t leave much for decorations. I had precisely $15 a week spending money. So when I saw the local video store had older movie posters for sale, I snaffled a large bunch of them, including this. (And a Royal Tenanbaums poster because of course.)

This story has nothing to do with anything, except for the fact that I think about that poster in that flat every single November when I get a billionty emails from people asking about workbooks and I need to start writing…

The Shipping News

SO! IT IS THAT TIME!

Where are the workbooks at?

When can you expect to receive them?

For all countries: Pre-orders and Academy member books will be sent before any new orders.

USA + AUS: Pre-orders are being sent as of NOW. Boats have arrived, gotten through port and are in distribution houses. All will be sent within the next 48 hours before any other orders. They usually turn over orders within 24 hours, however because we had so many thousands of pre-orders, it may be another 24 after that.

So depending on how close you are to Las Vegas and Sydney (where our distribution houses are), you’ll have your packages V soon!

UK: Boat has arrived and we are waiting to get it through port. All boats left at the same time but because of you know… geography, the boat to UK arrived last. We should get it through Customs pretty quickly and set up in the distribution house, so we’ll be shipping by end of this week at the latest.

All other countries: Your packages are sent from your closest distribution centre and will be sent out on the same timing as them. Of course, they may take a little longer to arrive to you depending on distance (GEOGRAPHY AGAIN!), mail services & Customs.

When can I buy??????

We will be opening carts within the next 24 hours. Final testing happening now! Hold tight lovebugs, and make sure you are on the mailing list if you do want to order as we already are running low on some stock items because of pre-orders (20,000 books and 10,000 wall calendars sold in a week!!!!!!!), and like last year, are likely to run out of some stock in less than a week. EEEEP!

Post-Election

I don’t know what to say. But I’ll just turn up anyway.

Everything is atumble in my head and heart.

I’ll just turn up anyway.

Firstly – I’m not an American. I’m an Australian. And I might be half a world away, but even here, in Australia, it feels like a quake in the earth’s surface. Americans – we care deeply about who is President. It affects us all around the world. And the vast, vast majority of us here feel stunned, shocked, scared.

I cannot imagine how it would feel to be in that epicentre of the quake… to be living there in the US.

I’m so sorry if you are there and feeling scared, unsafe, worried, stressed because of this. That’s completely understandable. You are not alone in feeling that. I wish you didn’t have to experience this. I wish we didn’t have to go through this.

So, here’s what I’m thinking:

1. I’m shocked. I’m scared. I’m worried. I’m not even in the US, and I’m not in his line of fire (beyond having a pussy). Whatever feelings you are having right now, you are allowed to have. Comments like “Get over it cry babies” or “You need to get over it and support the new President” are not helpful. When someone is in pain, we don’t negate it with shoulds. Our feelings are valid and we are allowed to feel them all. I also don’t agree with the idea that we need to support any nation’s leader who we don’t agree with the beliefs of. I wouldn’t have agreed with Hitler. I didn’t agree with Tony Abbott. I don’t agree with George Christensen MP. Being able to disagree with a political leader is a democratic right.

2. I don’t believe Trump is the cause of a toxic environment. He is a symptom. He is a boil that has erupted to show there was an infection all along. The infection of sexism, racism, abuse and greed. Our planet is suffering, our people are suffering. We can no longer ignore that anymore.

3. Now more than ever, we are needed and important. We can no longer afford to be complacent or ambivalent about our power. I think we are realising now that we can no longer rely at all on political leaders to make the world a better place. That is our job. Our goals, our dreams, our wishes… these are the sacred vessels to take us into a better future.

4. I am activated more than ever to speak up, to make a change, to donate, to volunteer, to do something, to take care of our LGBTQI, Muslim, non-white and non-male communities. We can no longer afford to not do something. Our actions must align with our intentions.

5. Our energy and actions are needed to continue making the world a safer, better, healthier place. AND at the same time we need to hold in our other hand the fact that we need self care more than ever before. We cannot give from an empty well. We cannot be burnt out activists. If we react from frantic energy, instead of taking the time to go inside, tend to ourselves, be still and centered, and create from that centre… we are not helping with the very energy that is needed to create this. Journalling, mediation, healing, yoga, sleep, therapy and sacred women’s circles are critical. We need to recognise this self care is no longer optional. It is not selfish. It is a huge priority. It’s a dichotomy for us to hold both the need for selfless service in the world and deep self care. But we can, and we will, and we must. And we will support each other through this.

6. I don’t believe vilifying Trump voters is helpful. In order for there to be healing, I believe we need to listen and understand more. What is it about Trump that made them believe it was the right choice? It seems many voted not because of his racism and misogyny, but inspite of it. They were inspired instead by a different way, by opting out of the current political system. What are they feeling scared and afraid and worried about? It seems to me they want change from corporate America. We need to understand more about that. Engagement and understanding is so important… so a new vision can be worked towards together. (This however does not apply to the alt right/KKK/misogynist/homophobic crowd who voted precisely because of the views Trump spouted. I don’t know what to think about them, except for this being one last uprising of flawed views that will soon no longer exist on the planet.)

7. If you don’t believe I should talk about politics or hold political views, feel free not to buy from me. It’s okay, you don’t have to tell me. I realise I will offend some people. I will never, ever attempt to be beige enough so as not to upset any person ever. I have a platform. That, to me, is sacred. I will use that platform as a way to share my voice on things I believe are important. If you don’t believe I have that right as a business owner, don’t purchase from me. And nope, as spelled out in our refund policy, you don’t get to receive a refund because I express political views that are different from yours.

8. You are not alone. You are not alone. You are not alone. We are all in this together. In these times, it is even more important for you to be gentle with you. This has been a trauma and a shock. Detach from the media. Drink water, take baths, walk outside, hug animals and people, meditate, journal, get therapy. Return to your sacred centre of stillness. And create the change from there.

I will rain my love on you

Sick again.

Roasting with fevers, my bed becoming a pool of sweat.

“How much can one person get sick?” my husband asks.

I shake my head.

I do not know.

I go to the doctor.

She frowns, orders tests and x-rays.

I gulp back tears.

I thought she would maybe tell me I was overreacting, that it was nothing but a bad year for colds.

She does not.

It might be nothing, it might be something. We need to rule it all out.

I stumble around the corner to the blood test lab.

I wish I’d brought my husband for this.

Just want to turn him over in my hand like a smooth, constant river rock.

She has a head scarf covered in flowers and gentle eyes.

As she prepares the vials and needles, I sit on the grey throne.

I begin to fixate on all that could be wrong.

Then, I raise my eyes.

There, on the other wall, is posters upon posters of natural miracles: lightning, sand dunes, sunrises.

Some capture my eye: clouds dousing rain across vistas.

And suddenly, I am enthralled by this realisation:

Even if I go

that is what I will do.

I will be a cloud.

I will roam the earth

pouring my love across all that I meet.

I smile. This makes me very happy.

Yes, that is what I will do.

I will watch you all and listen to your stories and I will love you.

Men and women and children, animals and ocean and earth.

I will love you and want only for your best.

I will believe in you.

I will love you. I will shower you with love.

It doesn’t matter what these tests (either now or later) will say.

It doesn’t matter if this is just a speedbump or a collision.

It doesn’t matter if the journey like this, as a Leonie, is long or short. I’ve already lived longer than my brother, than my dad’s brother, than my friend’s children. It’s never about the length of time of life for love to make an impact.

Each day is an endless facing of mortality, whether we know or not.

What’s important is this:

I remember what I am now.

I remember what I was born to do.

I’ll just keep doing the very same thing.

I’ll be a cloud.

My darling spiritual mentor/friend/bosom buddy/kindred spirit Deb Namara is just about to complete her doula training, and would LOVE to support some women through birth.

I wish I had Deb during my births… I did however have the support of three amazing doulas during my two births… Doulas are AMAZING… they give so much additional support, encouragement and make the experience THAT much better. I wholeheartedly recommend Deb… she is a walking heart on legs who brings joy and love into every room she is in… and is a deep healer of mind, body and soul. Perfect for any birthing mama!

How To Get To #1 On Google + Use The Powers of SEO To Grow Your Business!

A practical article for you today… to help you get down to the nitty of business building!

It’s so much of what I teach in the Shining Biz and Life Academy!

Today we’re talking about building your business and getting to #1 on Google using SEO.

Now, if you, like I when I was first starting out, are like:

SEO? WTAF?

I’m here to help! Ha!

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation, and basically means getting your business to appear first on Google.

If you can get to the first page of search engine results, especially if you can get to the first three results, you can see a HUGE increase in your business!

It can be immensely helpful, especially if you have bricks and mortars businesses and product businesses. Online service businesses can rely on other strategies to get people in the door of their business. But often the first point of call for people searching for local businesses or products is using an online search engine. You really need to harness the power of that to make sure that you are getting in front of the people who want you NOW!

First step:

Decide what you want to rank for!

You want your business to rank in search engines highly for things like:

Your business name (this might sound derpy, but it’s amazing how many businesses don’t do this!)
If you are a local business, your service/product + location (including suburb, town and region). For example “Yoga

Melbourne” or “Ashtanga Yoga VIC” or “Yoga classes South Yarra”.
If you sell online for a specific country, you want to try and rank for search terms like “Soy candles Australia” or “soy candles .au”
Brainstorm both specific and wide terms people might be asking.
Brainstorm what interchangeable terms people might be searching for (i.e. “energy healing” “shamanic healing” “reiki” “reiki healing”)
Brainstorm what questions people might be asking on Google about your industry/product that you can create a blog post around that answers it.

DOWNLOAD YOUR SEO SUCCESS CHECKLIST NOW!

Second step: Now you know what you want to rank for… let’s get you ranked!

How to get ranked for SEO:

WordPress tends to get better ranking in search engines than other content management systems.
Use the Yoast WordPress SEO plugin
Make sure that you have in your website title the things you most want to be ranked for (i.e. “Your Name/Business Name, Location, Industry)
Name your pages and use headings with words you most want to be ranked for
Create blog posts with titles that address exactly the questions people would have about your product or service.

SEO is a strange science. But it is doable, and learnable, just like everything else in business and life. Don’t get overwhelmed by it – just decide to implement what you can step-by-step.

How I use SEO to grow my multi-million dollar company!

I write blog posts with my target audience in mind, and title them with questions they may be searching for.

If I decided to start running live events or face-to-face coaching again, I would definitely make sure I was targeting SEO to rank highly for my location and service again.

I regularly look over my Google analytics (a free resource that helps you track how many visitors your website is getting and where they are going to) to see which posts and pages are getting the most amount of traffic.

It still surprises me, 12 years into this blogging gig, what posts end up being the most popular, which ones rank highly for search terms and attract a lot of search traffic. For example, some of my most visited blog posts over the past year have been ones I wrote four years ago. Why? They have great titles, well written headings, and have managed to land on the top of search results for web searches.

 

By building up a library of well-written articles, you’re creating traffic that will continue for years to come.

And here’s my bonus handy hint – at least every six months, check which ones are popular. (We do it every month, in our monthly reporting!

keep your top posts that pull search traffic current – make sure there’s no broken links or images or outdated information!
document the statistics in a spreadsheet to see how things change
use them to funnel readers to your mailing list or your products.

WANTED: PUBLISHING HOUSE FOR RIDICULOUSLY SUCCESSFUL SELF-PUBLISHED BOOKS

Okay, I need your help, my sweet friends…

I am attempting to get the attention of a literary agent or publishing house to explore the possibility of getting my (ridiculously successful and profitable) self-published yearly goals workbooks into a publishing house to reach even more people.

I’ve sold more than most Australian (and international) best-selling books – close to 100,000 already… with 20,000 already sold in pre-orders for 2017(!!!!!!!!) and another 165,000 being used through non-profit organisations globally. And this is all selling direct from my website – not through bookstores! I’ve also got a reach of over a quarter of a million people across social media, and 75,000 peeps on my mailing list.

Still, I can’t even get answers to emails or phone calls from agents and have my books sitting in nine month long slush piles at publishing houses (!!!!!!!) Which totally makes me think in my head: “Do you peeps not like money or something? I AM TRYING TO THROW MONEY AT YOU!!!!” (when I’m not crying with my head on my desk asking WHYYYYYYYYYYYY IS THIS SO HARD… I JUST WANT TO HELP MORE PEOPLE WITH THESE BOOKS!!!!)

I totally hesitated at sharing this… but I’m just trusting that, as always, my tribe usually has the answers!

Eleanor the Enthusiastic will sign up for the program, thinking just the act of doing that will solve all her problems. And she’ll promptly barely even open the emails or look at the content. And she’ll wonder why nothing – absolutely NOTHING – changes in her life and biz.

Ruby The Reader

Ruby the Reader will read everything in the program. She’ll pride herself on finishing it. But despite reading everything, she won’t have actually – you know – DONE it. She hasn’t implemented anything. She hasn’t ticked off anything. She hasn’t made any actual changes to her business. She hasn’t really filled out the worksheets. She’ll see minimal changes to her business. And she’ll wonder when on earth things will actually start snowballing for her.

Ingrid the Implementer

Ingrid the Implementer will do things differently. The Ingrid before doing this program and the Ingrid after doing it will be vastly different. America, we need to talk…

Dearest ones,

When I was a little girl, I would pray for many things, over and over.

“Dear God,

Please don’t anyone in my family die. Please don’t let my parents get divorced. Please let there never, ever be another Hitler again.”

I don’t know why I was so fixated on that, to be honest.

But even at that age, I knew that once upon a time a man brought great suffering to the world. And I didn’t want people to suffer like that again.

I became obsessed with Germany and learning European history pre, during and post WW2. In my mind, it was (and is) one of the greatest atrocities ever committed. I wanted to know how to make sure it would never happen again.

And I continued to pray.

My prayers, my greatest fears, started to go unheard when I was 14.

That was the day my Mum drove me home from art class, and police were waiting there for us. They spoke to my mother first, then she called to me and my sisters. “I’ve got some very sad news. Your brother has been in an accident and is dead.” The world fell of its rotation. It took ten years for it to rotate again, and still it has a kind of lopsided limp to it.

Thirteen years later, my sister called me. “Do you want to hear something weird?” she asked. “Sure!” “Mum told Dad she is divorcing him.” I felt the familiar sound and pull of a world falling out of socket. I don’t know if it’s ever going to get clicked back in.

And now the second coming of Hitler is here.

We are on the precipice, as a world, of falling into shadow of evil once more.

This time around, his name is Trump.

The time is ripe for Hitler again, of course.

Germany voted in Hitler for many reasons: because they were suffering financially, their spirits were low, inflation was sky high. They were still dealing with the crushing financial strain of having to pay war reparations for World War 1. The people were weary, and along came a man that said: “I know what is wrong. And I will be the one to fix it.” He was a persuasive orator, with intense eyes, and a strange cadence of speech that seemed to hypnotise people. “I know what is wrong. And I will be the one to fix it.”

Part of his grand plan was to eradicate the people he believed were wrong. Germany wanted a scapegoat, and Hitler made it Jewish people. The answer was not Hitler, of course. It was perseverance, discipline, righting the wrongs and staying the path. But it was too late to turn back. Untold suffering resulted, a grief and a stain still being healed today.

Present day America.

The people are suffering financially, still dealing with the financial strain of Iraq War and the Wall Street Crash and the Global Financial Crisis. The people were weary, and along came a man that said: “I know what is wrong. And I will be the one to fix it.” He was a persuasive orator, with intense eyes, and a strange cadence of speech that seemed to hypnotise people. “I know what is wrong. And I will be the one to fix it.”

“I will make America great again.”

Part of his grand plan is to eradicate the people he believes are wrong. America wants a scapegoat, and Trump will make it Muslims, Mexicans, women, people of colour – anyone who is not him.

The answer is not hate, of course. It was perseverance, discipline, righting the wrongs and staying the path.

It’s not too late to turn back.

This election is less about who you love, and more about ensuring the world’s next Hitler does not come to power. Hitler’s opposition maybe wasn’t the most perfect person on the planet… maybe they don’t make unrealistic promises… maybe they didn’t have the most compelling personality under the sun… but they would have been about a billion times better than Hitler.

Germany didn’t know there was such a thing as a “Hitler” when they voted him in. They didn’t know how bad it could be.

But today, we do. We know what a Hitler is. We know just how much they will cause suffering because we’ve seen it already. We know this type – the charismatic Narcissist who says he is a man of the people and who will save us by eradicating the “others”. We know he won’t make America great again no more than he made Germany great again.

We can learn the lessons of the past.

We, as a world, can stay the course and work through our problems… knowing that this charlatan liar is promising nothing but snake oil and suffering.

I’m with you. And you. And you.

And because of that, I am with her.

I’m not an American resident, so my vote doesn’t count. But I will use my voice. I will share what I know. I will do everything in my power to make that one last prayer of mine come true. And I will beg, politely and lovingly, to please use your vote powerfully.

The last thing this world needs is Hitler. The last thing we need in this world is more unsuffering and persecution.

Hitler, we know your name today. And it is Trump.
