Strong as Death, Born From Death book 1
Ilona discovers what it means to have a mother who is a modern woman and a father who is a 19th-century gentleman ghost. After being hit by a car and taken to the hospital, Ilona starts to realize she’s different from other people, and that her mother has hidden the truth from her. She sneaks out of the hospital in order to discover the truth.A mysterious boy named Archer guides her through Brooklyn and introduces her to Hendrick, the man who claims to be her father—though he died in 1890. Ilona must discover not only what she must do to rid the city of Soll, a sadistic and powerful spirit, but also what it means to be half ghost. She proves what her mother told her—love is stronger than death.
Sneak Peek at Awaken from Death:
The blond boy didn’t walk up to a urinal or into one of the stalls, or even up to the mirror. He stood in the middle of the room.Invisible, Lettie watched curiously.Something moved backward away from him. Out of him.She recognized Archer’s shiny black hair and strong frame even before she could see his face. She gasped. But ghosts can’t inhabit people. The blond boy shook his head and looked around. “Fuck.”“I’m sorry,” Archer murmured so the boy wouldn’t hear.Lettie stared at both of them. The blond boy turned, leaned his hands on the counter, and looked at himself in the mirror…not the way people usually looked at themselves. It was more like he was trying to see something more than was in the reflection.Archer watched him, as if waiting for him to see something. Then Lettie understood. Archer hadn’t merely inhabited the boy—he’d possessed him. But there were only a couple ways that’d be possible—if he were half ghost, or if he…A memory struck Lettie like a horse galloping across a battlefield. An ancient memory. Lettie had been around since the beginning of time on Earth, but most of those thousands of years she let slink around the crevices of her mind. It was mostly just walking the bridge with the newly deceased. There were a few memories, though, that burned into her every time she let herself pull them forward. And burned was precisely the right word. She knew—or rather, remembered—why Archer would never leave Ilona.

The Line Up - Book Three

From the moment British Special Forces Operative Michael Marsden meets Deputy Sherriff Bill Swann, sparks fly and lust flows.
When a man meets a woman who rides a Harley Davidson and wears a gun strapped to her hip, he’s bound to be in for a few surprises. Because long-legged tomboy, Bill, is definitely not what she seems.
Having made it clear he’s looking for a no-strings-attached fling, Michael realizes he has to use all of his tactical knowledge to negotiate his way around Bill’s five older brothers to get her alone. Then he needs to get past her defenses. And his own heart.

Excerpt

Being confronted by two-dozen boxes of condoms and a wild-eyed woman possibly rated right up there in that uncomfortable zone.
Bill paced back and forward, walked around the opposite side of the kitchen table, flung her arm out and pointed at the offending items as soon as he walked through the door.
“There you go. Take your pick.”
He didn’t know whether to laugh or run. He thought she might kill him in either case.
He chose to study the boxes on the table instead. “You seem to have pretty high expectations, Bill.”
“They’re all sealed.” She rubbed her hands roughly up and down her thighs; if she did it much harder, she was going to rub a hole in her jeans.
“Why wouldn’t they be sealed? Where did you get them?”
“Well I couldn’t get them from a store in town now could I? There’s not a single soul here that I don’t know, haven’t lectured, helped across a road, or arrested.” She wrapped her arms around her body in a self-defensive move, chewed on her lip as Michael tried desperately not to smile. She looked so serious, it was appealing. “I think my brothers may all be perverts.” She scowled across the table at him, her dark eyes filled with confusion and doubt.
“You got them from your brothers?” He gave a wary nod; she may not need to kill him. “Brave move, Bill. When are they all arriving with their shotguns?”
She snorted out a laugh, leaned forward, and picked up one of the small packets. Waved it at him.
“I filched them. I went right into their house with a pecan pie that I bought in town, put it on the kitchen table, then trawled the house for their condoms while they were out.”
He closed his eyes and shook his head, and when he opened them again, she was waggling another small box at him.
“Well, I don’t understand. These ones say they’re fruit-flavored. I have no idea what you would be doing putting one of those in your mouth. You could choke to death for the love of God.”
He nearly did. He watched her through narrowed eyes. She could not be serious, could she? Was she really that naive?
“And here”—she picked up another pack, tapped it on the table— “what in hell’s name are you supposed to do with these? They have the American flag emblazoned on them. Does that mean you have to stand to attention when you’re wearing them?”
Throwing them back on the table, she picked up another pack, while he hauled in a gasping breath, trying his hardest not to guffaw. Standing to attention was a prerequisite, surely? Although his preference may well have been the Union Jack. Gurgles of laughter rushed up through his belly into his chest to burble out of his mouth. The woman was priceless. She wasn’t kidding; she was deadly serious.
“Why in the name of all that’s holy would you want something like this glowing at you in the dark?” She tossed a neon green box across the table. “I mean, how likely is it that you’re going to lose your dick? And these…these are colored, blue, green, purple; surely to Christ you’re going to look like you have a disease, especially this here yellow one. I’m surprised there’s no polka dots here.” She picked one packet up after another, throwing them back on the table in disgust. “And these warm up, and these ones…well, they’re studded.”
“Do you mean ribbed?”
“Uh, well isn’t that the same thing?”
“No, I’m pretty sure there’s a difference between ribbed and studded.”
She frowned at him, her eyes frenetic and confused. “There’s something wrong with my brothers. There isn’t a single condom here for normal use. I’m sorry. I guess I messed up. I have no condoms to speak of.” She flung her hand frantically across the table, swept half the boxes onto the floor.
“We can’t have sex,” she howled.
Michael’s smile faded fast as his amusement fled.
“It’s okay, Bill.” He found he could speak at last. “I have it covered.” He reached delicately into his back trouser pocket and pulled out a small foil packet.
“Is that it?”
He glanced at the kitchen table, at the floor, and back to his fingers holding a single foil, a smile quirked across his lips. Oh God, she was funny. Absolutely hilarious.
“Well, what did you expect?”
“Well. More than one. Surely. The boys always say…”
“Bill. How about you forget what your boys have always said. Men lie. A lot.” He leaned across the table and took hold of her wrist to guide her around to his side, still holding the foil packet aloft in his other hand.
“Well, what does it do?” she demanded.
“It protects you from getting pregnant and from sexually transmitted diseases.”
“I can catch one of those?”
“Not from me, you can’t.”
He gave her a long moment for her to contemplate the little packet in his fingers while his blood pumped wildly through his veins as he drew in the fresh, clean scent of her.
“Is that it? It doesn’t have whistles or bells or lights or anything?”
He chuckled as he drew her in close. “No, it doesn’t.”
He gave her a sharp tug so that she stumbled against him. Her breath was hitching in her chest, too fast, too much, and she seemed to be able to breath in but not out again. The pulse in the base of her throat beat fast and thready and a small tremble vibrated
through her entire body. He thought she might hyperventilate. Making love to an inert body, albeit warm, was not his idea of fun.
He raised his hand to her face, caressed her soft cheek, stroked his thumb over her velvet skin, and smiled at her, slow and easy. She melted in his arms, her long limbs going heavy, and her breath expelled from her lungs.
“I’ll take care of it.” He kissed her eyebrow, the end of her nose, touched his lips against hers. “Let me take care of you.”
Cupping her face in his hands he dipped in to caress her mouth with his own, to sip, to taste, his lips smoothed, molded, his tongue sampled, drank. She whimpered into his mouth and returned the tender sensuality of his kiss. He felt her surrender as her arms slid up his chest to link around his neck, her body lax. Her legs gave way beneath her, and with a groan he lifted her, sat her on the kitchen table, pushed himself close between her thighs. He held her in his arms as his mouth cruised her jawline, then further to trace the silky line of her neck.
“Please tell me we’re not going to get interrupted again,” he murmured against her throat. He felt the vibration of her laughter against his lips.
“I don’t think so.”
“Well, they’re going to die if they do.”

THE LINE UP - PART TWO

Loving Lydia, originally the first in the series is now re-edited and re-issued as Book #2.

Excerpt

The stables were empty except for the quiet hush of the horses blowing out gently or shuffling into a more comfortable position as they settled down. She could hear his voice at the far end of the stable as he sang to himself. She recognized the country song and smiled as she stepped forward.

“Sam?”

There was a moment of silence, and then Sam stepped out from behind a large black stallion, holding some kind of small hook in his hand.

“Lydia? What are you doing down here?”

“I need to speak with you.”

He stepped forward, but she held up a hand.

“Earlier, you said you wanted me.”

“Lydia, I don’t think…”

“No, please. I need to say this. You said you wanted me but…I’m not very good in bed. I’m no good at sex.” The words rushed out, and she watched as his mouth dropped open and his eyes widened.

“Christ, I can’t stand here and listen to this. Lydia, honey, please don’t say any more.” Jack stepped out from behind the black stallion, and as he spoke, Lydia clapped both hands over her mouth. Eyes huge with horror, she stood routed to the spot for a split second before Sam stepped toward her. She spun on her heel and tried not to run, holding her body ramrod straight as she stalked back through the barn, trying to muster as much dignity as possible. She heard a gravelly male voice coming from behind her

“No woman who looks the way she does is going to be bad at sex.” She whipped her head round and stood stock still for a moment as Carl stepped out of the stall next to the stallion, a piece of straw between his teeth. He tilted his head to one side and grinned. “Not when she can move the way she does.”

“Dear God,” Jack ground out.

Sam eyed the other two, and then hung his head as the laughter rolled over him. Lydia found her feet and ran as if the hounds of hell were chasing her.

The subject of his grandmother’s enthusiasm to marry him off, Sherriff Jack T Swan is fighting dirty to save his skin and has sworn off women until further notice. So the very last thing he needs in his life is a beautiful damsel in distress. Despite initial appearances, Jack soon discovers Kate is anything but distressed. In fact, she’s more than capable of skewering him with her kitten heel. Doctor Kate Marsden is handy with a scalpel, but she’s not quite sure how to deal with the local sheriff, who she inadvertently mistakes for a pervert while trying to report a crime. Time and again their paths cross and attraction rages between them, but while Jack is adamant he’s not in the market for a serious relationship, Kate is definitely not interested in a one-night stand.
ExcerptShit. They’d sent him a stripper. Jack raked his gaze along the woman’s just-got-out-of-bed hair, followed it down her slender body dressed in a cheap, wrinkled suit to where her messy plait stopped at her hips. God, he hoped she was only a stripper and they hadn’t sent him a prostitute. He almost leaned forward to check out the rest of her shapely legs, but he didn’t want to make her think he was interested in any way. Not in a prostitute or a stripper. Whichever one she was; this was beyond a joke. He thought he’d reached an understanding with his grandmother, but from the look of it, she’d got together with his aunts and had managed to find another one. Perhaps this time they’d made a big mistake. He took his time as he studied the woman, noted with satisfaction the nervous way she licked her lips, but he’d caught the quick flash of awareness when his half-asleep gaze first met hers. It wasn’t ego, but at his age he recognized that look of admiration in a woman’s eyes. Under different circumstances, he may well have returned that interest, but as it was, he needed to get rid of her. It wouldn’t take long. With a roll of amusement, he squinted at the woman across the room. What would be the best way to achieve it without enlisting Bill’s help? Since the incident with the eighteen-year-old Lucy, he’d become a laughing stock. The little hoots of laughter and the sly digs from his deputies weren’t subtle. Couldn’t handle a kid, they snickered. Well he could handle this woman. He studied her a moment longer. She’d not been sent by his grandmother, he’d stake his life on that, but the boys may have clubbed together to send him a kiss-a-gram as a joke. From her willowy slenderness, she had to be a performer. Perhaps he should wait to see if she started to sing. With slow indolence, he trailed his gaze back up her body, deliberately resting his hands back on his stomach so he gave the impression of being relaxed. He wasn’t relaxed. His nerves jumped and twitched. He could call Bill in to get rid of her, but if he did, they’d have even more to laugh about. Damn, but they all thought he was frightened of women. They weren’t far wrong, but it was more that he was frightened of what he’d become for the right woman. There was no right woman. Not for him. He let his gaze continue to cruise over her. Fine boned, her delicate face would have been perfection if not for the tell-tale worn-off makeup, black smudges of tiredness and mascara swiped under her lazily hooded eyes. Her drawn features hinted she’d already put in a full day. She may not have the energy to sing. As long as they didn’t expect him to pay for the pleasure of her shimmying her hips. He wouldn’t put it past them to land him with the bill too. That was if she could bear to push herself away from the door long enough to shimmy. Perhaps a little stagger would be more likely, if he was lucky enough for her to stay upright. He tried not to laugh, but his lips twitched up at the edges, and the thick black flutter of her eyelashes warned that she’d noticed. The way she leaned against the door, she didn’t seem to be in any hurry to start. He’d be willing to give her a moment longer, but from the look of her, there was the distinct prospect she was about to fall asleep. Perhaps she needed an invitation. Or some music. “In your own time, sweet cheeks.”

A Touch of Tiramisu

Now, I'm not going to swear that I'm brilliant at making Italian food, but I certainly do love it. Just recently for my daughter's 21st birthday, we had a family dinner and our love of Italian food dictated the menu.

Starters:

A platter with Italian meats (prosciutto, salami, pepperoni,) sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella, olives, and rosemary and garlic bread rolls.

Main:

Lasagne
Coleslaw
Mixed salad

Dessert:

Tiramisu

Now, it's the Tiramisu I feel I should share with you. I've made this a few times recently and wondered where I was going wrong. I use to make it for special occasions and everyone loved it, but after quite a while without doing one, I suddenly found it wasn't quite so good.

And then, the day before youngest's 21st, it clicked!

Condensed milk.

You see, I don't tend to use recipes. I read them once, vary it according to taste and each time I make it thereafter, its in my head. But the Tiramisu had leaked out of my head to make a mess.

But then I remembered, and it was wonderful. So here it is.

Tiramisu:

Sponge fingers (I make them myself, or will buy them if I'm in a rush, 2 packets if bought)
Strong black coffee - enough to make up 1 pint
Camp coffee - 4 tbsp
Rum - to taste
Brown Sugar 2 tsp
500g Mascapone
1 397g tin Condensed milk
50g dark chocolate
Large glass dish

1. Mix coffee, Camp coffee, rum and brown sugar together in a bowl.

2. Grate chocolate

3. Whip together Mascapone and condensed milk

4. Soak sponge fingers a few at a time and only for about 20 seconds in the coffee mixture (otherwise they'll disintegrate)

5. Make a layer of sponges, then about the same depth of mascapone mix, sprinkle on grated chocolate and repeat.

6. I prefer to leave it in the fridge overnight. The flavours seep through and make it even yummier.

See. Simple.

A Double Whammy!

I have two books coming out this month. So I'm going to give a little explanation.
I recently got my rights back for my Atlantic Divide Series and in the meanwhile because I'd been asked several times if Jack and Kate had a story, I wrote Gun Shy. I placed the rest of the series with Hartwood Publishing and we decided to re-edit and re-release them, re-numbering the books so they ran in right order. Gun Shy is now Book 1 and comes out 4th August together with Loving Lydia. You can get them right now with 20% if your pre-order them. (See links below)
Bad Girl Bill is in the middle of being edited and will be considerably longer than the original version with a couple of additional scenes. This is due for release in September.
Finding Zoe, I haven't yet looked at but will be re-editing this shortly with a view to doing what I've done with Bad Girl Bill. Mac is certainly one of my all-time favourite heroes, specifically because of his human failings. The intention is for this to be released in October.
I really love my cowboys and this is such a great series that I'm in the middle of writing the 5th book which I'm hoping to get finished by the end of August. This is the story of Sean, the younger Swann brother, one of the deputy sheriffs. He's just about to meet up with a hairdresser with a reputation to uphold.

Submissive on the Run by Tara Quan

The Story Behind the BookSometimes, supporting characters take on a life of their own. After selflessly aiding in the affairs of others, they sulk in the back of an author’s brain, broadcasting their past, present, and future until surrender is nigh. Thus was the case with Kim Tran, the intrepid dungeon monitor from Submissive on Display. Unbeknownst to the heroine of the first book, Kim has some unfinished business with the hero’s best friend (small world, I know). He insisted I give them a chance to sort things out, and, being a Dom, he has a knack for getting his way. Submissive on the Run drags me back to Las Vegas’s renowned Carnivore Club, a multi-author world first penned by Kate Richards for Decadent Publishing’s 1Night Stand Series. This interracial BDSM romance stars a feisty sub with a strong right hook, who must contend with a spoilt rich boy determined to win her back. An ill-mannered cat and Madam Eve’s matchmaking service unite them for a night of exhibitionistic fun, which ends in a capture game and a scorching happily ever after. To celebrate my return to BDSM romance this year, I’m giving away a $15 gift card. To enter, leave a comment here and drop your details in the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of this post. [or at my website: http://www.taraquan.com/submissiveontherun]
Submissive on the Run by Tara QuanObscene wealth and a toxic family taught Joss Bradlee to care about no one. He moved through life in a caustic shell, fending off gold-diggers with his sharp tongue and abrasive personality. But a stubborn submissive saw past his nonchalant act, and he fell hard and fast for a girl he didn’t deserve. When she accidentally stumbled into the line of fire, he moved heaven and earth to protect her, even if it meant letting her go. Ten months later, he ensures her safety and tracks her down, finally ready to claim the one person that matters. The only problem—she wants nothing to do with him.On the run for close to a year, Kim Tran receives a surprise call from the man who’d put her life in danger. His family hired assassins to kill her, but he’s somehow convinced they still had a chance. With their entire relationship built on a lie, she resists the instinct to sprint straight into his arms. Faced with a social divide no sane person would bridge, she cuts her losses and breaks her own heart. But the Dominant she loves has other plans, and he’s spent his entire life getting his way. Too late to run and with nowhere to hide, she faces an adversary well versed in all her weaknesses. At the Carnivore Club, two exhibitionists meet for a battle of wills, lured by a one-night stand service, misplaced cat, and several helping hands. With the aid of handcuffs, disciplinary measures, and a capture game, a reluctant sub rediscovers the pleasures of bondage, the thrill of display, and the ecstasy of surrender.Genre: BDSM Romance, Erotic Romance, Interracial/MulticulturalBuy Links: Amazon | ARe| B&N | iTunes | Kobo| GooglePlay| GoodReads

Excerpt
Her fingertips tingled by the time she reached the interrogation room. Sucking air into her lungs, she flattened her palms on the entryway. Regaining equilibrium through the slight chill, she focused on spacing out her breaths. Her nipples might have tightened to painful peaks, moisture might coat her palms, but she had no doubt she’d spend the night alone. The Dom she wanted to play with resided on the opposite end of the continent. Even if he were right in front of her, she wouldn’t—couldn’t—allow their lives to tangle again.Squaring her shoulders, she turned the knob and pushed the heavy slab. The ground dropped out from under her the moment she spotted her date’s familiar reflection in the two-way mirror.Joss’s mouth curved, the smile grooving his stubbled jaw. White cuffs peeked out from the ends of his gray jacket sleeves. Silvery links glinted under the white, fluorescent light. With his pale hair tied in a queue at his nape and his collar open, he embodied a modern-day Viking.“I come in peace.” He lifted his wrists, which were handcuffed together and chained to a metal ring on the floor. Full of mischief, his jade eyes sparkled. Her reaction to his playful salutation brought an unwelcome realization. Time hadn’t muted the bond between them, their sizzling chemistry all the more potent because of the months spent apart. The sight of him shattered her defenses. Trouble in an expensive suit, he’d worn the same wicked expression when they’d met. It was her first day working as a hostess at a BDSM club in Boston. They’d chatted, he’d swung by her station a few times, and, after her shift, he’d materialized with a piping-hot pumpkin spice latte in hand.Even then, she’d suspected him to be more than he seemed—a ruthless man wearing the mask of a dilettante. She should have walked away, should have trusted her instincts and steered clear of someone so far out of her league. While claiming to be a corporate errand boy, he’d drawn attention wherever they’d gone, his charisma as palpable as the crisp scent of his expensive cologne. But the heartbreaking loneliness she’d sensed had stretched their walk into a stroll along the Charles, a harmless coffee into hours of conversation and laughter. Despite her misgivings, they’d become friends. That step, she’d never regret.“What are you doing here?” The impulse to throw her arms around his broad shoulders an obsession, she rooted her heels to the floor. All dreams must end. Hers did months ago. Why, then, did it feel as if a new one was about to begin?

What type of reader are you?
I have a confession: I’m a romance reader. Growing up, my parents wanted me to express an interest in the classics. So I faked my way through works by Charles Dickens, discovered I very much enjoyed anything by Jane Austen, and realized I didn’t have the patience for Leo Tolstoy (no, not even Anna Karenina). For the sake of dinnertime debates with my better half, I’ve braved Richard Dawkins’ The Blind Watchmaker and skimmed Jared Diamond’s Guns, Germs, and Steel. But a quick perusal of my past Amazon.com purchases reveal the undisputable truth. My favorite authors are Cherise Sinclair, Kresley Cole, and Nalini Singh. The books I read all fall under the same genre. So what makes me a romance reader? 1. I can’t stand it when books don’t end in a happily ever after. In fact, I almost always read the final pages of every book first, just to make sure nothing bad happens. As much as I adored Erich Segal’s Love Story, I will never re-read it. The books on my shelf with worn pages and creased spines are ones with endings that make me smile. Many of them also feature covers with lace-lined bodices and handsome rogues. 2. I’m a sucker for a love story. Don’t me wrong—I’ve strayed from the romance genre on several occasions. The fantasy lands of George R.R. Martin’s The Song of Ice and Fire and the sci-fi planets of Frank Herbert’s Dune both lured me to sample other types of fiction, but even those stories contained characters who loved and made sacrifices for love. What can I say? I’m a hopeless romantic. I like reading books about people who fall in love, who then live happily ever after, and, who, upon occasion, have a bit of kinky sex along the way.
On the subject of kinky sex, to celebrate an unexpected return to BDSM romance, I’m giving away a $15 gift card. To enter, leave a comment here and drop your details in the Rafflecopter widget at the bottom of this post [or at my website: http://www.taraquan.com/submissiveontherun].
