CHOCOLATE CHUNK CRANBERRY COOKIES
Music recommendation of the daaaay: Jamie xx's new-ish album "In Colour". Check out this song to get into it. Music is saaaaving me and getting my through this heartbreak. Seriously, don't know what I'd do without it. On that note, a tragedy has struck (besides Jack baaasically dumping me and me having anxiety attacks every morning): MY 160GB IPOD HAS DIED. It was well well weeeell loved so it doesn't come as a shock. But I need to find another one soon, and since they don't make them anymore, it's to Craiglist I venture with tentative hope. Plus I don't like buying new stuff anyways. It's good that Apple is on board with LGBTQ+ justice but their labour practices are not ok. Capitalism.... *uncomfortable moan*.
CHOCOLATE CHUNK CRANBERRY COOKIES
1 cup cashews
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 tablespoon maca powder
1/8 teaspoon cinamon powder
1/8 teaspoon ginger powder
1/8 teaspoon vanilla powder
Heaping 1/3 cup dried cranberries
Heaping 1/3 cup chocolate chunks
Pinch Himalayan salt
1/4 cup maple syrup
Scant 1/4 cup melted cacao butter
Grind the cashews and 1 cup of the oats into powder or at least a rough flour. Whisk in the other dry ingredients evenly, then stir in the maple syrup and cacao butter with a wooden spoon until you have a very moist and yummy dough. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of rolled oats as needed, until the dough becomes more solid and shape-able. Scoop into cookies and let set in the fridge, or eat right away!
NOTES: you can use any nut, seed or grain instead of cashews or oats; you can use coconut oil instead of cacao butter; you can use vanilla extract instead of vanilla powder; you can leave out the maca if you don't have any...

JUICY ELIXIR with PINEAPPLE, MINT, RASPBERRY + BEET
First off: listen to this song. UNGH YES. Moving on: this recipe has a secret superfood ingredient: apple cider vinegar. I know the smell of it makes some folks wanna puke (i.e. my whole family) but its health benefits are so REAL so I wanna show ya'll a way to add it into your diet in a super yummy way. Lez go.
And yet again I have to thank ALL OF YOU for the love and support you are generously providing while I move through this heartbreak - living without Jack's love is terrifying and nearly unbearable at times, but it gets easier every day - and journey of dealing with my mental illness(es). I am going to make a Thank You post soon. XO
JUICY ELIXIR with PINEAPPLE, MINT, RASPBERRY + BEET
Serves one or two
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 cup beet juice
1/4 cup pineapple juice
3 cups chilled coconut water
1/4 cup frozen raspberries
1/4 cup packed mint leaves
Gently smash the raspberries into the bottom of one or two glasses. Throw in some mint leaves too. Pour in the coconut water, apple cider vinegar and maple syrup. Pour in the beet and pineapple juice until you like the colour of the drink (or just pour it all in, it's gonna taste great no matter the colour). Stick in a straw and and enjoy!

BAKED YAMS with SAUTÉED VEG + TOFU
Hey, all. Hope we are doing ok today. I'm getting by. My heart will be broken for a long time, but I need to focus on moving on, being strong, learning lessons and growing as a human; without a particular person who I thought would always be by my side. I want more than ANYTHING IN THE WORLD for them to call me so we can be together again, taking care of each other in this strange universe. But they don't love me anymore, not like they used to. They have found a new life, a new lover, and don't need me like I need them. I never realized how deep my love for them was: they were my lifeline, my rock, my world, my best friend and life partner. I took that for granted. I think of them constantly: everything from dogs to farmers markets to music is a trigger. I let myself daydream that one day they will call, but it's an unhealthy habit because it's probably false hope. They really seem to be totally fine without me. That is one part of this that hurts the most. But thank GOODNESS time just keeps passing by: each day gets easier. And out of the woodwork have come all these amazing, inspiring, kind persons who want me to know they are here for me if I need to talk, need a hug, need to cry on a shoulder. For all the hundreds of comments from you, my cyber family, I thank you. You've given me heartfelt fuel to go on, have confidence in myself and remember that this pain will pass and once I am on the other end of this horrific journey I will be a better version of myself. Thank you, everyone.
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
I hope you try out this recipe, it takes just a few minutes to whip up (not including the half hour or so for the yams to bake), it's super good for ya and tastes delicious. Obviously, I put tahini on it. I haven't had much of an appetite lately because of heartbreak, anxiety and depression (yippie) but today I actually felt like cooking a whole meal for myself. It's progress. It's a step in the right direction. Take care of yourself. XO
BAKED YAMS with SAUTÉED VEG + TOFU
Serves one or two
1 yam
Veg:
1/2 cup frozen peas
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 cup spinach leaves
1 tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon chipotle powder
1/4 package cubed tofu
Toppings:
2 tablespoons tahini
Pinch black pepper
Handful pumpkin seeds
Preheat the oven to 350. Wash the yam, no need to peel it though. Slice it in half length wise and then bake on parchment paper for 30 minutes or until it is tender all the way through (check with a fork) and bubbling around the edges. Leave to cool.
To make prepare the veg: throw all the ingredients into a pan and sauté until everything is tender and flavourful. If the pan goes dry, just add some lemon juice, soy sauce or water. I'd suggest adding the spinach last because it only needs a moment to cook. Add whatever else you like. If it needs more salt, I ain't stoppin ya.
Plate your yam, throw on the veg and tofu mix, and finish with the toppings. Nom.

DIY VEGAN FACE MASKS + FACE MASK GIVEAWAY!
This is the fourth post in a self-care and body-care series I am doing in collaboration with Luminance Skin Care, an organic vegan skincare company that I love. This post also includes a face mask GIVEAWAY! Enter below by commenting on this blog post: comment with a question you might have about Luminance, skin care, face masks or whatever! The Luminance team will answer all your queries. Also, you can get a free enzyme mask if you buy something from Luminance's online shop and mention my blog's name at checkout!
Luminance is a very small company - like, a handful of people - in California that uses only vegan and ethically-sourced ingredients and makes all their products by hand in small batches. I was delighted when, in one of my previous posts wherein I held a giveaway for some of their goodies, so many of you expressed that you'd already discovered and fallen in love with their skin care elixirs. I feel the same way: their products are so gentle and well-designed that even on my sensitive skin they work wonders. Kim, Shayane and Elena are genuinely concerned with the well-being of every single one of their customers, so you are in good hands if you choose to try some of their glorious goods. Now moving on to masks!
My fave face masks from Luminance are their exfoliating mask with papaya enzymes - it's totally smooth so it doesn't scratch off the natural oils on your skin like some rougher exfoliators - and their green clay mask. Both leave my skin feeling soft, clean and hydrated. I do a mask every two weeks or so. Even though it only takes 10 minutes or less, it feels like such a treat for myself. I know ya'll know what I'm talking about. As for DIY face masks: I've shared recipes for a few before, and now I bring you more. CAN YA HANDLE IT?
MOISTURIZING AVOCADO FACE MASK
1/2 avocado (yes, that's all)
Mash it up. Spread it on a clean face. Let it sit on there for 10 minutes. Rinse off gently with warm water, then spray on some rosewater toner and go on with your day.
Tip: avocado pits make great hydrating facial massage balls. That sounded really weird but all I'm saying is that next time ya cut open an avo and are about to compost the pit, rub it around your face instead. It feels really good and provides some natural moisturizing goodness thanks to the fat content. Rinse off your face right after the mini facial massage or else you will be walking around with green cheeks the rest of the day.
//
ANTIOXIDANT CHOCOLATE FACE MASK
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1 tablespoon ground coffee beans
1 tablespoon ground oats
Coconut milk, or more as needed
Stir all the ingredients together until you get a paste. Spread on a clean face and let sit for 10 minutes, then gently rinse off with warm water. Spray on some rosewater toner and keep livin life.
//
NOURISHING BANANA FACE MASK
1/2 banana (yep, that's it)
Mash it up, spread it on a clean face. Let sit for 10 minutes then rinse off with warm water. Spray face with some rosewater toner and voila!
a Rafflecopter giveaway

FREEZER FUDGE BITES IN 10 MINUTES YESSSS
I got this idea from my friend, Maizy. She is the cutest QT I've ever met and her passion for life and love is inspiring. Check out her IG here for photos of delish vegan food, flowers and trees, feminist messages and gorgeous selfies. This recipe is SUPER basic, ya just throw nut butter into dates and stick 'em in the freezer for a few minutes. But the result is fabulous. They are gooey, cold, creamy, salty (if you sprinkle on a lil salt... do it), sweet and decadent. They're also made of foods that are good for you. These fudge bites are duel-functioning: they are a rich treat/dessert but also an energy snack. Eat as many as you want, whenever you want.
FREEZER FUDGE BITES
Makes 6
6 pitted dates
6 scant teaspoons walnut butter
6 walnuts halves
Pinch Himalayan salt (optional)
Scoop a little nut butter into the dates, top with a walnut half, sprinkle on the teensiest amount of salt and put in the freezer for 10 minutes. Voila.
NOTES: you can use any variety of dates, medjools work well because they are giant, but lately I've been preferring Bam dates (aka Mazafati dates, according to wikipedia). You can use any nut or seed butter you like. You can add whatever toppings you want, I threw on some sesame seeds for aesthetic reasons here. And use any nut to top the bites with! I just had walnuts nearby me so I used walnuts.

HELLO, BLACKBERRY WALNUT SMOOTHIE
Delish. Quick. Purple. This recipe tastes good and gives your body what it needs to keep going. I've got a mini island adventure to go on and I'm already late so I'm gonna leave this here for you to try out! I've been going through some SERIOUS shit in the past month. Jack and I broke up. I am utterly heart-broken. I am just starting the long, rugged journey of treating my mental illness. I feel ok sometimes, and hopeless sometimes. But the support and love I receive from all of YOU is helping me get through this and I know I'll come out stronger at the other end. Much love. Try the smoothie.
BLACKBERRY WALNUT SMOOTHIE
Makes about 2 cups
2 bananas
Heaping 1/4 cup frozen blackberries
1 tablespoon baobab powder
1 cup almond milk
Scant 1/4 cup walnuts
2 Brazil nuts
Blend it all up. Drink it down. Yum.

CHOCOLATE MACAROONS (SUPER QUICK + EASY)
Yesterday, my friends, was one of those days you remember fondly forever, and these macaroons were part of it. Ironically the morning started with me going to the dentist. I had cavities to be filled. But after that is when the good stuff got going. The short, PG version: my best friend and I had a beach day, went on a long walk, saw all the sights, talked about all the things, ate all the veggie foods and finished the night with a heart-breaking/heart-mending doc about pandrogyny, love, and industrial music while munching these macaroons [that I improvised and whipped up in an exhausted stupor in about 15 minutes at 10:30pm].
CHOCOLATE MACAROONS
Makes 6 huge macaroons
1/6 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup your fave nut butter
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
Pinch Himalayan salt (optional)
1/8 teaspoon vanilla powder (optional)
2 heaping tablespoons cacao powder
3/4 cup coconut shreds
3/4 cup rolled oats
Whisk together the maple syrup, nut butter and coconut oil until evenly combined. Whisk in the cacao powder, vanilla powder and salt until you have a smooth, liquid chocolate mixture. Stir in the coconut and oats until they're fully coated in the chocolate. Scoop into balls (I used an ice cream scoop) and throw in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!

FROSTY MINT SMOOTHIE with CHOCOLATE
This was probably subconsciously inspired by a recipe I saw on Instagram from @sobeautifullyraw (Sam). Their pics are way better than mine because the lighting was AWFUL this afternoon. Like, I was actually angry at the weather. Angry. But I'm trying to keep goin with this regular posting thing so we'll all just have to deal with these crappy photos. Please forgive me and keep reading my blog.
FROSTY MINT SMOOTHIE with CHOCOLATE
Smoothie:
2 frozen bananas
1 orange
1 teaspoon dried mint leaves
1/2 teaspoon spirulina powder
1/4 cup walnuts, preferably soaked in water for 4 hours then rinsed
1-2 cups water or vegan milk
Raw chocolate:
1 tablespoon cacao powder
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder
Pinch Himalayan salt
Water, if needed
To make the smoothie: blend all ingredients together until smooth, sweet and green! Adjust according to taste. Add more spirulina if it's not green enough for ya. Add more liquid if it's too thick.
To make the chocolate: stir together the ingredients until you have chocolate sauce. Decorate the inside of a glass with the chocolate using a spoon. Pour in the smoothie and enjoy!
NOTES: you can use fresh mint or a few drops of peppermint essential oil instead of dried mint, and really change this recipe up as much as you like! Do what works for you!

GOOD OATS with ALMONDS, COCONUT SUGAR + VANILLA
First of all: download the 1997 album Supa Dupa Fly by QUEEN Missy Elliot. It's absolutely amazing. Power to women around the wooooorld. I'm endlessly impressed with her talent to subvert power relations while maintaining an unprecedented level of fabulousness.
Second: this oatmeal! It's my fave way to make oats and it never gets old. I make it almost every day. and it gives me fuel for bike rides, the gym, and life. It's great for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The recipe takes a few minutes to make, tastes like cake, and is REALLY good for you! The best part is that you can dress it up or down as you see fit. Sometimes I'll add a whack load of stuff like cinnamon, ginger, chia seeds and goji berries and other days I'll just do coconut sugar with some nut butter. IT'S UP TO YOU.
Third: in case ya haven't yet noticed, I have revamped ze ole blog a bit. It's cleaner and prettier (in my opinion). I deleted a massive amount of weird spam comments so now PLEASE get back to commenting on my posts. I disabled comments for awhile because the spam was buggin me so much and now I seriously miss hearing from you below my recipes. I FINALLY updated my recipe index so now it lists all my recipes, not just the ones from 2013 and before. I started this blog when I was 16 years old so lemme have a break: I didn't know what I was doing (... I still don't, really). Looking through all my archives as I was adding older recipes to the recipe index made me realize how little I've been posting in the last two years. I need to step up my game and get back to posting a couple times a week. I think because I became preoccupied writing cookbooks from age 18/19(?) to 20/21(?) that I got used to only posting on my blog a few times a month and since my last cookbook was published, I didn't correct that learned habit. Well, now is the time. I wanna stay dedicated to YOU, this blog, and my own damn self. I'm gonna be on my ass about this but if you don't see me post for a week, PUT ON THE PRESSURE. Email me, post comments, whatever it takes. I'm also in a bit of a rut: my appetite is unusually small (for me), I've been feelin lonely lately for a few different personal reasons, and I just haven't had my normal zest for life lately. This all results in me putting off 'work' (i.e. this blog) which I ALWAYS regret later. I need to relearn the rhythm of regular posting for my own sake. Anyhoo, much love to you and yours. XO
Enjoy these oats.
GOOD OATS with ALMONDS, COCONUT SUGAR + VANILLA
Oats:
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup rolled oats
Pinch Himalayan salt
Toppings:
2-3 tablespoons coconut sugar
1-2 tablespoons almond butter
1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder
2 tablespoons chopped almonds (optional)
1-3 tablespoons non-dairy milk (optional)
To make the oats: throw the oats in the cold water with a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally with a spurtle or wooden spoon. Once boiling, lower the heat to low (still stirring occasionally) until the oats are the consistency you like. I like mine thick and then I add non-dairy milk to thin it out AND cool it down so I can eat it right away. Top off with all the goodies you want, and please adjust the amounts according to your own preferences. <3
