Koopa Manduka

Last night I saw a little frog on the glass panel of front door. It was attached vertically and when it sensed the motion of my curiosity, it took off. Manduka means frog in Tamil and reminded me of the Koopa Manduka kiddie story. It goes like this:

There lived a frog in a nice, deep well. Born & raised in the well, this frog lived on worms and insects also living in the water.

Writers on Writing

I was thinking about how Alice Walker kept a sign over her office desk which would cause much fall-out later. It was to remind her about obstacles other writers had faced, and stred down: Woolf had madness, Eliot was ostracized, Austen had no privacy, the Brontes died young and dependent, Hurston had poor health. Walker had her daughter --"who is more delightful and less distracting than any of the calamities above."
