I remember watching the movie years ago and thinking it was funny, almost slapstick comedy. When I found the book collecting dust on the shelf, I decided to read the delightful tale. Surprise! This story was a tragedy of the highest order. Although told with plenty of humor, it followed the lives of LAPD officers who were suffering with PTSD's, alcoholism and an assortment of personality disorders. Coming together frequently for "choir practice" to drink themselves into oblivion only added to their problems. What did Hollywood do to Joseph Wambaugh's fine story of troubled men destroying themselves?
