God Is Waiting for You to Ask

“If you ... know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Matthew 7:11 (NIV)

God is the source of everything. He made everything you see in the world—and everything you can’t see in the world and in the universe.

As you depend on God as your source for everything, there are four truths you need to remember.

First, everything is a gift from God.

Nothing you have has really been earned. It’s all a gift of God’s grace. If God didn’t want to give it, then you wouldn’t have it.

James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (NIV). That’s why the Lord’s Prayer says, “Give us this day our daily bread.” Why? Because everything God gives you is a gift. You can’t earn it—thank God for that, because none of us could work hard enough to deserve his good gifts.

Second, there’s nothing you need that God can’t provide. You don’t know what you’re going to need the rest of this year. But God knows, and he has the power to supply whatever it is.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:19, “My God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus” (NIV). This means God gives gifts as only someone with unlimited resources could do. It won’t always look like you expected or wanted, but his gifts are always just what you need and for your good.

Third, God wants to give you everything you need.

Matthew 7:11 says, “If you … know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (NIV). God is not obligated to be generous to us. He does it all out of his love. And he doesn’t hold back!

And here’s the fourth thing: God is waiting on you.

If you have needs in your life that are not being met, it’s not God’s fault. You’re not waiting on God. He’s waiting on you. James 4:2 says, “You do not have because you do not ask God” (NIV).

You don’t have to wait to clean yourself up or get things together before you ask God for something. He’s ready and waiting for you to ask him. When you do, you’ll discover just how good and generous a Father he is.

Por qué nos Necesitamos los Unos a los Otros

“Dios, de su gran variedad de dones espirituales, les ha dado un don a cada uno de ustedes. Úsenlos bien para servirse los unos a los otros”.  1 Pedro 4:10 (NTV)

Tus habilidades son para el beneficio de otras personas. La Biblia dice en 1 Pedro 4:10 “Dios, de su gran variedad de dones espirituales, les ha dado un don a cada uno de ustedes. Úsenlos bien para servirse los unos a los otros” (NTV).

Nadie es bueno en todo. Tú me necesitas, y yo te necesito. Nadie tiene todos los talentos. No hay personas perfectas que puedan decirle al mundo, “No necesito a nadie”. Nos necesitamos los unos a los otros. ¡Fuimos hechos para trabajar en equipo! Ese es el por qué necesitas congregarte en una Iglesia. Juntos somos mejores.

Esta es la clave del éxito: construye tus fortalezas para que tus debilidades se vuelvan irrelevantes. Cada persona exitosa hace esto. Sólo trabaja en lo que eres bueno, y hazlo mejor.

Hay una segunda regla del éxito: Haz equipo con personas que son buenas en lo que tú no eres bueno. Haz equipo con personas que te complementen. Todos tienen algo que contribuir. Nadie lo tiene todo resuelto. Nos necesitamos.

Esto, por lo tanto, es uno de los propósitos del matrimonio. En el matrimonio nos unimos para complementar nuestras fortalezas y para compensar las debilidades. ¿Qué sucede cuando no compensamos las debilidades en pareja? Nos criticamos. El matrimonio no es para eso. El matrimonio reúne a dos pecadores, así que no hay relaciones perfectas; en el matrimonio, conoces las debilidades del otro, para que puedas ayudar a compensarlas.

Por ejemplo, pagar las cuentas y hacer presupuestos. ¿Quién debería hacerlo? ¡La persona que lo hace mejor! La Biblia no nos dice qué papel debe tener uno sobre el otro. Sólo fíjate quién lo hace mejor, y al hacer eso, compensas las debilidades. Ese es el por qué siempre dejo que mi esposa, Kay, conduzca. Ella maneja con mucho más cuidado que yo.

Esto también se aplica a tu trabajo. Si quieres que tu negocio sea efectivo, esta es la clave: contrata el personal por su F.O.R.M.A. Ayuda a las personas a descubrir su F.O.R.M.A. — su Formación espiritual (dones), Oportunidades del corazón, Recursos naturales (habilidades), Mi personalidad y Antecedentes (Experiencias) — y ponlos en los puestos para los que son buenos. Cuando haces eso, no tienes que controlarlos y no tendrás que motivarlos. ¿Por qué? Porque ellos van a hacer lo que aman hacer, y para lo que son buenos.

Dios quiere que cada persona use sus habilidades para ayudar a otras personas. ¡Nos necesitamos mutuamente!

God Is Closer Than You Think or Feel

“The LORD is near to all who call on him.”

Psalm 145:18 (NIV)

God is not as far away as the furthest star. He’s as close as your next heartbeat. He’s right there with you every moment. The Bible says in Acts 17:27, “God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us” (NIV).

You might feel like God is a million miles away. But your feelings and reality don’t always match—we all know that’s true. The truth is, God is with you right now.

Because he is a close Father:

God is never too busy for you. That’s how close he is. That’s the kind of love that he has. Psalm 145:18 says, “The LORD is near to all who call on him” (NIV). Every time you call, God is near. You’re never going to get a busy signal! He thinks about you a lot more than you think about him. He thought about you before you were born. He thinks about you every moment of every day. The truth is that too many times, we get too busy for God. But he never gets too busy for us.

God loves to meet your needs. He doesn’t do it begrudgingly. He loves taking care of his children and giving them the things they didn’t even know they needed. Mathew 7:11 says, “If you . . . know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (NIV). You can enjoy the fact that God enjoys giving good gifts to you.

God is sympathetic to your hurts. Some of you are going through something tough this week, and you need this verse: “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed” (Psalm 34:18 NLT). Whatever is weighing you down, you can give it to God and let him carry it for you. He is always ready to comfort and help you.

God is close to you, and he understands. Turn to him, talk to him, and trust him for every need you have today.

Talk It Over

What do you need to call on God for today?
How can you know that God is close to you?
What specific changes do you need to make in your life so that you are not too busy for God?

Will you follow Jesus today?

God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life through Jesus? If so, start with this simple prayer: “Dear God, I confess I’ve lived life my own way and sinned against you. I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son, that he died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Qué hacer con una Habilidad sin Usar

“Si el amo regresa y encuentra que el siervo ha hecho un buen trabajo, habrá una recompensa”. Lucas 12:43 (NTV)

Todos tenemos habilidades sin usar. Pero hay tres formas para que puedas comenzar a cultivar tus habilidades para que sean usadas para bien y para la gloria de Dios.

Valora tus habilidades.Haz una evaluación de tu vida. Haz una auditoría de tus habilidades. ¿En qué eres bueno? Haz una lista. Si hay una cosa que le puedo decir a los jóvenes de hoy es que se preparen para su futuro. Se trata de: Conoce tus fortalezas. Conoce tus debilidades. Considera las capacidades que Dios te ha dado. Padres, ayuden a sus hijos a entender su F.O.R.M.A. — Formación espiritual, Oportunidades del corazón, Recursos, Mi personalidad y Antecedentes (Experiencias). Tus hijos tienen más habilidades de las que creen.Dedica tus habilidades.Dedícalas a Dios para el uso que Él destinó. Romanos 12:1b dice, “Dediquen toda su vida a servirle y a hacer todo lo que a él le agrada. Así es como se le debe adorar” (TLA). Dile, “Señor, tú me disté estas habilidades. Ahora voy a dedicártelas a ti, quiero usarlas para el propósito para el cual me las diste”.Cultiva tus habilidades.Esto significa practicar, mejorar, pulir y desarrollar. Cualquier habilidad que Dios te ha dado, puede mejorarse con el uso. La Biblia dice en Eclesiastés 10:10 “Si el hacha pierde su filo y no se vuelve a afilar, hay que golpear con más fuerza, pero la sabiduría lleva al éxito” (NVI).

¿Cómo obtienes una habilidad? Práctica. Dios dice que necesitas afilar tu hacha. Un hacha sin filo requiere más fuerza. Él dice que trabajemos inteligentemente, no fuertemente. Afilar tus habilidades — tus aptitudes, tus destrezas. Es una responsabilidad espiritual.

Dios ha invertido mucho en ti. Primero, te creó. Segundo, Él te formó con dones espirituales y personalidad. Luego envió a Jesús a morir por ti. ¡Dios ha hecho una inversión increíble en tu vida! Y Él espera retorno de esa inversión. Un día Él te va a preguntar, “¿Qué hiciste con lo que te di? ¿Cómo usaste tus habilidades para honrarme, para servir a otros, para vivir, y para ser un ejemplo? ¿Cómo los usaste para ayudar a otras personas?”.

En Lucas 12:43 Jesús dijo: “Si el amo regresa y encuentra que el siervo ha hecho un buen trabajo, habrá una recompensa” (NTV). Yo quiero que tengas esa recompensa. Quiero que Dios te encuentre usando tus habilidades en la manera que fueron destinadas.

Oración:

Toma tiempo ahora para agradecerle a Dios. Agradécele por las habilidades que te ha dado:

“Dios, no conozco todas las habilidades que he recibido, pero te agradezco por ellas. Ayúdame a descubrirlas. Hoy te las dedico a ti. Quiero usarlas para el propósito que fueron destinadas. Quiero cultivar mis habilidades. Quiero ser mejor en lo que estoy haciendo.

Quiero honrarte siendo lo mejor que puedo ser. Quiero usar mis habilidades para honrarte, para servir a otros, para ganarme la vida, y para ser un ejemplo. Quiero usar mis habilidades para tener dinero y compartirlo con aquellos que son pobres y ayudar a mi iglesia a crecer y evangelizar. Ayúdame a hacerlo así. Te lo ruego en el nombre de Jesús, Amén”.

Let Go, and Know God Is in Control

“Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth.”

Psalm 46:10 (GW)

Every day, you have to decide who’s going to be in control of your life: you or God.

That choice is a battle. There are things in your life that you want to control. You want to make your own rules. But relieving stress always starts with letting God be God. It starts with saying, “God, only you can control the things that are out of control in my life.”Psalm 46:10 says, “Let go of your concerns! Then you will know that I am God. I rule the nations. I rule the earth” (GW). 

I don’t know what you’re going to face this week. You don’t, either. But I can already tell you what God wants you to do: Let go, and know. Let go of control, and know that God is in control. Let go, and know! This is the first step to peace in your life.

Whenever we face out-of-control situations, we tend to go to one of two extremes. For some people, the more out-of-control life gets, the harder they try to control it. Some people do the exact opposite: They just give up! They have a pity party and invite themselves to it.

Both of those reactions to stress are foolish. They don’t work. Instead of being a victim or becoming hyper controlling, you need to surrender your control to God.

The number one reason you’re under stress is because you’re in conflict with God. You’re trying to control things that only God can control. The more you do it, the more you’re trying to play God, and that puts you in opposition to God. Not only are you going to lose that conflict, but you’re also going to be tired.

Millions of people pray the Serenity Prayer, which is based on the Lord’s Prayer, but most have never read the last part of the prayer: “Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as the pathway to peace; taking as Jesus did this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that he will make all things right if I surrender to his will, so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with him forever in the next. Amen.”

That’s where the power is! There is power when you surrender to God the very things you’ve been trying to take control of from him.

Sirve por Placer, no por Deber

“Sean realistas al evaluarse a ustedes mismos”.  Romanos 12:3b (NTV)

La Biblia dice que Dios quiere que escuches tu corazón. Él quiere que veas para que te creó, y entonces sabrás lo que Él quiere que hagas. Pero la mayoría de las personas en estos días viven una vida tan rápida que no tienen tiempo para escuchar a su corazón.

¡Tenemos que ir más despacio! Todos estamos con tanta prisa, estresados con tanto que hacer, sin darnos cuenta hasta lo último que no teníamos que hacer tanto.

Eso describe a la mayoría de las personas de hoy en América. Están corriendo sin dirección. Pero Dios quiere que disminuyas la velocidad y escuches tu corazón. Romanos 12:3b dice, “Sean realistas al evaluarse a ustedes mismos” (NTV). Te sugiero que apartes un tiempo a solas con Dios y te hagas estas preguntas: “¿Qué me gusta hacer? ¿Qué sueño hacer? ¿Qué me fascina? ¿De qué puedo hablar, pensar y estudiar todo el día y no aburrirme? ¿Dónde he sido más eficiente en mi vida?

Una vez bauticé a una mujer de 80 años después de un servicio en la Iglesia Saddleback. Ella quería ser anfitriona de un grupo pequeño. Eso es muy bueno ¡una anfitriona de 80 años de un grupo pequeño! Ella dijo: “Me hubiera gustado aprender hace años que servimos a Dios por placer, no por deber”.

Sería bueno que todos pudieran aprender esa verdad. Eso es lo que quiere decir F.O.R.M.A. — Formación espiritual, Oportunidades del corazón, Recursos, Mi personalidad y Antecedentes (Experiencias). Servimos a Dios por nuestro diseño y por la forma que nos moldeó. Servimos a Dios no por deber sino porque lo amamos. Porque cuando haces lo que te mandó hacer, Él recibe la gloria.

Esa es la manera de vivir. No sirvas a Dios por deber, obligación o por culpa. Sírvele por placer y gratitud. Haz una exploración cuidadosa de quién eres y del trabajo que te han dado — en otras palabras, lo que Dios te puso en la tierra para hacer.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cuál ha sido tu motivación para servir en el ministerio?¿Cómo afectó esa motivación tu actitud hacia el ministerio?¿Para qué crees que Dios te puso en la tierra? ¿Qué pasos puedes tomar hoy para servirle usando tus dones y trabajar hacia tu propósito?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? You Can Count on God

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

James 1:17 (NIV)

When everything’s changing around you, it’s important to remember that God is a consistent Father. He will never let you down. He can be counted on. He is reliable. He is worthy of trust.

James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (NIV). God is an unchanging, consistent Father.

Human fathers are often unpredictable. I’ve talked to people who said, “Growing up, I never knew how my dad was going to treat me. I never knew if he was going to be silent or violent. I never knew whether he was going to hug me or slug me. I never knew if he was going to take me in or reject me.” Inconsistent fathers produce insecure children.

But God is not moody. He does not change in his character or his feelings about you. Nothing you could do would make God love you more, and nothing you could do would make God love you less. Your heavenly Father is consistent. One of the things you can count on is that God always acts the same toward you.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:13, “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself” (NIV).

We know that the world is changing faster than ever before. Years ago, the futurist, Alvin Toffler, wrote that in times of rapid change, people need “islands of stability.” When everything else is up in the air, you need something in your life that never changes as an anchor for your soul. You need an island of stability in order to handle the stress.

There’s only one problem: On this planet, nothing lasts. There’s only one thing you can count on that will never change, only one thing that will give you permanent stability, and that’s the consistent, caring love of your heavenly Father. As you get to know God and experience his love for you, you’ll find solid footing in a shaky, inconsistent world.

“My God is changeless in his love for me” (Psalm 59:10 TLB).

You can count on that.

¿Corazón Quebrantado? El Señor está Cerca

“El Señor está cerca de los que tienen quebrantado el corazón”.  Salmo 34:18 (NTV)

Todos hemos tenido el corazón quebrantado de alguna manera —tal vez por decepción, temor, vergüenza, rechazo, o burlas. Yo te diría, como un amigo, lo siento. Realmente lo siento mucho. Me importa el dolor por el que has pasado, porque a Dios le importa. Él se duele contigo. ¿Qué hacía Dios mientras tú llorabas? Él lloraba también.

De hecho, en tu dolor Dios está más cerca de ti, aunque te des cuenta o no.

La Biblia dice en el Salmo 34:18, “El Señor está cerca de los que tienen quebrantado el corazón” (NTV). ¿Cómo lo hace? Él nos ha salvado haciéndonos un trasplante de corazón. Es su especialidad, de hecho.

Dios dice, “Para un corazón culpable, te daré un corazón que ha sido perdonado. Para un corazón resentido, te daré un corazón lleno de paz. Para un corazón ansioso, te daré un corazón que confía. Para un corazón solitario, te daré un corazón lleno de amor. Para un corazón que ha estado amargado y enojado, te daré un corazón perdonador, amoroso y generoso. Déjame hacerte un trasplante de corazón, te pondré en libertad”.

¿Por qué necesitamos libertad? Porque todos somos esclavos. Somos esclavos de las expectativas de otras personas. Somos esclavos de recuerdos del pasado. Somos esclavos de los temores del futuro. Somos esclavos de presiones del presente. Somos esclavos de las opiniones de la sociedad, y así podemos seguir y seguir.

Pero todo lo que tienes que hacer es abrirle tu corazón a Jesucristo y darle el 100 por ciento de tu corazón. Dile, como David en el salmo 119:32, “Corro por el camino de tus mandamientos, porque has ampliado mi modo de pensar” (NVI).

¡Debemos dejar de limitar a Dios! No podemos ni siquiera imaginar lo mucho que quiere hacer en nuestras vidas.

Ábrele tu corazón a Dios, y permite que Él haga un trasplante y ponga Su corazón en ti.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cuándo te has sentido más cerca de Dios?¿Qué circunstancias prevalecían en esos tiempos?¿De qué formas has estado limitando a Dios? ¿Cuál ha sido el efecto?

 

¿Estás listo para invitar a Jesús a tu corazón?
¿Quieres recibir el regalo de gracia que Dios te da? Es una oración simple que le dirás a Dios que aceptas el regalo de Jesús.

Oración

“Dios mío, tengo miedo, pero quiero conocerte. No lo entiendo todo, pero te agradezco que me ames. Te agradezco que estuvieras conmigo, incluso cuando no lo reconocí. Te agradezco que estés para mí, que no enviaste a Jesús para condenarme sino para salvarme.

Admito que nunca me di cuenta de que necesitaba un Salvador, pero hoy quiero recibir el regalo de tu Hijo. Te pido que me salves de mi pasado, remordimientos, errores, pecados, hábitos, heridas y complejos. Necesito que me quites el estrés y llenes mi vida de tu amor. Necesito estar en paz contigo, y necesito que pongas tu paz en mi corazón.

Te pido que me salves para tu propósito. Quiero saber para qué me pusiste en esta tierra. Y quiero cumplir lo que tú quieres que yo haga. Quiero aprender a amarte, a confiar en ti y a tener una relación contigo. Te lo pido en el nombre de Jesús, Amén”.

God Is Aware, and He Cares

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.”

Psalm 103:13 (NIV)

God is a caring, loving, and compassionate Father. He loves you more than you will ever understand. He loves you more than you can ever comprehend! God is love, and he made you to love you. He is loving toward you in everything that he does. God is a caring Father.

The Bible says in Psalm 103:13, “As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him” (NIV). God compassionately cares about everything in your life, which means he has concern for you.

In Mark 4, when the disciples were out fishing one day, Jesus got tired and curled up in one end of the boat and went to sleep. When a storm came up, it shouldn’t have bothered the disciples. As professional fishermen, they were used to storms. But this must have been a big one because they got scared. They were frantic and woke up Jesus to ask him one of the most important questions in life: “Lord, don’t you care?”

We ask that question of God all the time and in a thousand ways:

“God, did you see that doctor’s report? Don’t you care?”

“Do you see what a mess my marriage is in? Don’t you care?”

“Do you see how little money we’ve got in the bank and all the bills we’ve got? Don’t you care?”

“Do you see how my kids are struggling in school? Don’t you care?”

“You know this fear that grips my mind that I can’t seem to get rid of. Don’t you care?”

The answer is yes, God cares. In fact, he cares more than you care. He wants to help more than you want help. He knows what will help you more than you know what will help you. He is aware, and he cares.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV). 

If you knew and felt how much your heavenly Father cares compassionately and constantly about you, you’d have to love him back. If you feel like God is out of reach, it’s because you don’t understand the kind of caring Father he really is.

You can only know the depth of God’s love for you when you know God. Spend some time with him today—and every day. As you get to know him better, you’ll see just how much he cares.

Para Ser más Apasionado, Acercarte más a Dios

“¡Mira! Yo estoy a la puerta y llamo. Si oyes mi voz y abres la puerta, yo entraré y cenaremos juntos como amigos”.  Apocalipsis 3:20 (NTV)

Dios te dio un corazón, y ha puesto en ti pasiones, deseos y sueños. Pero a menos que estén bajo Su control, serán usados incorrectamente, serán usados de forma abusiva, mal aplicados, mal dirigidos y serán desperdiciados en tu vida.

Alrededor del mundo, hay millones de personas apasionadas con intereses, sueños y ambiciones que están siendo mal utilizadas y de forma abusiva. Y eso rompe el corazón de Dios. Por esa razón, a pesar de sus talentos y pasiones, esas personas no son felices. Porque cuando tus pasiones son usadas de forma equivocada, eso te hace sentir miserable.

Algunos de ustedes tal vez piensen, “yo no siento pasión por nada en este momento”. ¿Sabes lo que significa eso? Significa que estás desconectado de Dios. No puedes estar conectado con Dios y no sentirte apasionado. Cuando estás conectado con Dios, es como estar conectado a 220 voltios. ¡Te apasionas!

Dios es un Dios apasionado. La única razón por lo que tienes emociones es porque fuiste hecho a Su imagen y semejanza. Dios es emocional. Dios se pone celoso cuando ve que lo ignoras por algo más. Dios te ha amado con amor eterno. No importa lo que hayas hecho, Él siempre te amará. ¡Eso es pasión!

Cuando pasas tiempo con Dios diariamente y te conectas con Él, no puedes evitar ser apasionado. Comienzas a desarrollar el corazón de Dios por el mundo. Comienzas a sentirte de la misma forma que Él. Con quien acostumbres a pasar tiempo, realmente hace la diferencia.

Puedo probarte eso con cualquier adolescente. Pon a un adolescente con un grupo de chicos sin pasión, apáticos por todo, y el joven se volverá apático en cuestión de semanas. ¿Por qué? Con quien acostumbres a pasar tiempo, verdaderamente hace la diferencia.

¿Quisieras tener más energía en la vida? ¿Más entusiasmo? ¿Más motivación? Déjame decirte dónde obtenerla. La palabra “entusiasmo” viene de las palabras griegas “en theos” – “en” significa “en” y “theos” significa “Dios”. Cuando te pones “en theos” vas a estar entusiasmado. Entre más cerca estás de Dios, más energía, vitalidad y pasión tendrás en tu vida. Entre más lejos estés, más aburrida y apática se volverá tu vida. Tienes que abrirle tu corazón a Jesús.

En Apocalipsis 3:20, Jesús dice, “¡Mira! Yo estoy a la puerta y llamo. Si oyes mi voz y abres la puerta, yo entraré y cenaremos juntos como amigos” (NTV). Jesucristo ha estado en la puerta de tu vida y llamando por largo tiempo. Pero Él es un caballero. Él no derribará la puerta. Tú tienes que abrirla.

La gente con la que pasas tiempo y las cosas en las que gastas tu tiempo ¿te hacen más o menos apasionado por Dios?¿Qué cosas te apasionan? ¿Cómo puede eso traer gloria a Dios?¿Qué cambios en tu rutina pueden ayudarte a darle prioridad a pasar tiempo con Dios cada día?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?
