The library withits floor to ceiling shelves filled with priceless and rare tomes took abackseat to the man standing in front of the stone fireplace.

At almost sevenfeet tall, Dagen Kern was an intimidating sight. His jet-black eyes tracked herfrom head to toe, missing nothing. She fought the urge to shuffle her feet andinstead met his assessing gaze with one of her own, conveying a sense of detachmentthat was a lie.
