Street Certified Review: Platinum Dust

Philly's own KC Blaze lights up the scene with her debut novel Platinum Dust

KC Blaze lights up the scene with her debut novel Platinum Dust

Platinum Dust Part 1 is a blazing novella written by authoress KC Blaze is a story that I must say that I initially didn’t want to read. Meaning when this talented authoress first made initial contact with me and asked me to review her work I was dulled by the fact of reading what I deemed to be a chick book about a play-boyish character who would nevertheless fall in love with the woman he could simply not live life without. Blah, blah, blah…

However, I will be the first one to admit that I was totally wrong about this masterful piece of work. Platinum Dust is a novella that I found to be an amazing! The story had me wanting to speed read just to find out WTF was going on! By the middle of this novella I found myself reaching into my cabinet for a bag of microwave jalapeno flavored popcorn, and a large glass full raspberry flavored tea because Ms. Blaze puts on one helluva show within her page turner which is based on the life of her main character Raheim Starz who although is a good-looking playa with everything going for himself except for a legitimate job of sorts; and yet is not a street thug in a sense most think about but is on the contrary a very educated, streetwise, cautious individual with a heart that yearns for love. Yet it isn’t the love of just one woman he craves. The complexity of love is charasmatically played out within the chapters of this page turning romance/drama series within Raheim’s relationships with the three main women within his life.

One, Janet Starz, the murderess whom he hates for killing his father when he was 11 years-of-age who happens to also be the woman who brought him into the world. Estranged at such a young age, Raheim struggles with the unknown factor of why would the woman who gave birth to him, hate him so much as to toss him in the wind like an unwanted rabid dog invading a hen-house?

The complexity begins with his mother,  Janet Starz  who is serving a lifelong prison term. She constantly finds herself wanting to make amends with her son for what seems to be for all the wrong reasons. She is a character who had my head spinning the entire time, and it still is. Part 2 where are you? My mind continues to shout this.

Second, is Raheim’s aunt Sadie, who is on the opposing side of the family (his father’s side) who became a mother figure, and advisor to him due to life’s circumstances. One who doesn’t care too much for Janet or her murderous excuses.

Third, there’s Felicia the woman with a quiet knack who actually is what Raheim needs to bring balance within his chaotic life which for the moment runs smoothly until trouble comes literally knocking at his door due to a hiatus at a local club which turns out to be a nightmare Raheim needs to figure out in a hurry while the clock is ticking on his life as well as his younger brother who is astute, and as handsome as they come. Yet Raheim’s problem is trying to figure out why is someone trying to kill them, and for what reason? These questions will have you screaming out WTF! I just have to know!

What grasped me from the beginning besides the obvious as mentioned above is the content of the story was much more than the humdrum rehashed urban fiction that is constantly bombarding the market with tired run-of-the-mill storylines which we already know the outcome. Yet, KC Blaze manages to tell her story with twist and turns that will leave one thinking they were the 70’s hero Plastic Man. Someone please help me unwind. A cup of coffee would send me to the moon right now.

My only take from this story is the narrative itself, which had both a positive and negative effect upon me. I had found the first person narrative to be rather awkward at times, and yet it was unique at the same breath. The narrative becomes very refreshing after you get used to it as every character tells their part of the story in their own words, giving the reader an intimate connection to each and every one.

My conclusion of Platinum Dust is this story is a story that everyone will enjoy. People will be talking about it for ages to come. This book shall remain relevant for Cop this book today, and yes, I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars hands down…dioncheese.comrevisedREd

Urban Fiction Never Looked so Good

Meet Miko Covington
The Hottest Hostess In Urban Lit

Indeed, I have truly found her to be as colorful an individual as her photos are..

Indeed, I have truly found her to be as colorful an individual as her photos are..

Meet Tamiko Covington whom I found to be one of the most obnoxious, most conceited, and hateful person on the planet. Yes, I said it and I mean it! Well, at least that’s  what I imagined being the stereotypical view of her until we actually met. You see, I was once considered a heartthrob back in my day, and seeing Miko steal my thunder with her natural good looks bought out the E.N.V.Y. Monster in me. Evil, Nasty, Voracious, and the You need to step Back Look out of me. We all know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and yes, truthfully speaking it’s far more than being on the surface. It goes much further than the skin deep analysis as well. It’s about character which Miko certainly has a lot of, and much more.

Going  by Miko for short I found her to  be a very pleasant and kind heart individual with a true understanding of what the publishing industry should be like.  Being  married with four kids, and currently living Rome, Ga.  she discovered  she had a passion for reading in 2010.  She describes herself as being ” a stay at home wife and mother. I began reading initially to occupy my free time . I later found that the doors reading has open are in credible! The passion I have for reading has now, has become a part of my everyday life.”

What Miko describes above is  the beginning of a career which has led to many opportunities mostly driven by the passion for the Urban genre, and helping others to achieve success. She stated during a phone conversation about her start by saying, “I started by reviewing books on Amazon, and found my reviews was quite helpful to others through Amazon’s automated system. Later I started a Facebook group page called Let’s Share Urban Fiction in 2013. That page allowed me to get closeup, and personal, with established, inspiring authors. As a book critic I’ve always striven to give my honest opinion and be up front, and because of that many authors have found it to be quite useful. For example, Shameek Speight and I have been friends on Facebook since I first read Child of a Crackhead One. I was always a fan of his work, along with a few other authors. In January 2014, Shameek approached me to become an administrator for True Glory Publications. Since then I’ve started doing book discussions for his group page, daily hot topics, and promoting different books from various authors. The opportunity has been amazing, and is truly a blessing to me. Being the group administrator comes with the responsibilities of making and creating ideals, monitoring events…, and adding new members. I also communicate daily with numerous authors and fans. I have became inspired through this journey to become a future writer, and I also would like to help Urban fiction as a whole.”

With that said and the ENVY still boiling Tamiko, I’m making a comeback so you better watch your askmewhat! What does that mean exactly? I don’t know, but you better watch it nonetheless. With no further adieu, I give you Miko Covington y’all.

This dreamy pic bought out the E.N.V.Y. in me ...LOL!

My Interview With Miko Covington: The Flametress

DIONCHEESE.COM: You are from Atlanta I hear. Do you consider that to be a blessing or a curse?

MIKO M Covington: Actually I like to call myself a Bama Peach, Originally from Alabama, but I have  been a resident of Georgia for about 6 years. It’s a blessing, I have really enjoyed the transition.

DC: OK ma’am, let’s cut the bullsh*t!  Are you F**kin crazy, cause I am?

Miko: Yes, as a matter of fact I am crazy, but not in the sense you are. If you’re talking Urban Fiction. Yes, I’m crazy about the genre, but never cookoo. Does that sufffice sir? LOL!

DC: You know what, I sincerely apologize for my E.N.V.Y. outburst it was uncalled for would you like to continue?

Miko: LOL! Yes, I don’t mind I can relate. Let’s continue shall we.

DC: When did you first come into contact with Urban Fiction? And, do you consider yourself to be infected by its viral impact?

Miko: I first came in contact with Urban Fiction in March 2010, my best friend Monique introduced me to Poison by KD Harris. And yes I am very much infected but that’s a good thing! (wink)

DC: I see that you have a book discussion group how many members do you currently have, and is it an open group? If not how
does one become a member?

Miko: I’ve been hosting the group for about 5 months now. Let’s Share Urban Fiction has approximately 200 members and growing pretty rapidly. It’s an open group anyone can become a member by going to “Let’s Share Urban Fiction” on Facebook.

DC: How long have you been hosting your forum? And how is your discussion group different from others?

Miko: I feel my group is more family oriented, I have a special bond with each author and reader. We have lots of fun with daily hot topics. Everyone is allowed to be themselves without judgement or discrimination.

DC: Is there anything that you wish more authors would do when it comes to appearing on your forum?

Miko: I wish different authors and publishers would come together and have discussions about collaborations, promoting, and book seminars. There are so many talented authors in this genre, and it would be great for fans to see us moving as one big team!

DC: How did you come up with the idea, and what is the most frustrating moment that you recall?

Miko: Well I first came up with the ideal as I notice all the different book groups. I felt I had the power and the state of mind to contribute back to urban fiction. So I just created the group. Best decision I could have made, now I’m having lots of fun doing it.

DC: How many authors do you interview on a monthly basis?

Miko: I interview 4-5 authors a month.

DC: Are you conceited? I mean you do look nice and yes, I’m jealous even though I am a guy because some of my friends have said that your face is prettier than mine. Would you believe it if I were to tell you that I once had traffic backed up for five miles because one time I lifted up my jeans and showed part of my calf? Do you think you could top that? LOL!

Miko: OMG, no, no , and no LOL!  I am far from conceited. I do value my appearance I try to keep myself up to par. And you did what….hahahahaha!!! Show them calves then LOL. I don’t know if I can beat that. Well I once won  a dancing contest for concert tickets. That’s a hidden talent no one would guess I had. ;-)

DC: Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought I’m Miko Covington…bitches let’s get this show on the road?

Miko: ROTF! (Rolling On The Floor)  No I have not sir!! Beyonce got enough of that Bow Down Bitches going on. So I just say, “Let’s get the party started, time to make that money, Twerk Time!”

DC: I hear that you have a book coming out would you please elaborate on that? Is it Urban Fiction, and when will it be coming out?

Miko: I have a lil’ something, something, I am working on. Yes it’s urban fiction and released date is TBA.

DC: Will it be self-published or are you signed?

Miko: Idk, and no I’m not currently signed.

DC: Are you going to be on the cover because I see that your pictures are all over the place or are you going to let someone else take the spotlight? LOL! Will your cover just be a mirror face? LOL!

Miko: I might be on the cover who knows, y’all think I could pull it off lol? Well, we shall see. I do have some dime pieces on my team however. Plenty of pretty faces to choose from. So nah, I won’t be selfish, I might need your face so please stay available sir!

DC: How will your book differ from others in the genre you chose to write in?

Miko: I intend for my book to touch your soul and bring out emotions you thought you may never have had. I want you to feel the character and cry , scream, laugh, and get angry when they do. I would love for people to relate to some surreal situations and circumstances. I just want it to feel real!

DC: How do you see your forum evolving in the next few years, and where do you see yourself as an author in that time as well? Will you be able to remain impartial?

Miko: Hopefully I can see it evolving from Facebook to a complete website with 1000 plus members. I can see myself becoming I well known and beloved author. Yes, I feel like I will definitely be able to remain impartial. It’s in my character to be fair and nonjudgmental.

DC: Do you think Urban Fiction has room to grow? And do you think that the self-publishing industry has made it worse for good authors to get noticed because there is a lot of sub par work being released?

Miko: Yes it’s always room to grow. Self-Publishing Industry is indeed growing rapidly, it can be hard for good authors to get recognition or recognized. However I am a firm believer in where there’s a will, there’s a way!

DC: If you had to give anyone pursuing a career in the publishing industry what would you say to them?

Miko: If it’s your dream, don’t give up! God gives everyone a gift, its up to you to let it manifest for all the world to see. Sharpen and develop your skills and be the best at your talent.

DC: This is my last question and it’s serious so answer honestly. Do you think that you really look better than me? Also, if you do would you be willing to give me the money to get a facial so I can at least have a fighting chance? Or maybe, buy me a nice watch so I can know what time I lost the upcoming beauty contest between you and me? LOL!

Miko: Well sweetheart, no man got no business looking better than a woman. LOL! Why, it’s because it would be only a matter of time before we be sharing eyeliner, lip gloss, and eye shadow, “AIN”T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!!!!” Kmsl

DC: Any last words of advice for your guest authors appearing on your forum?

Miko: Just know as my guest I do not discriminate, I do not participate in authors’ beefs. I feel it’s alot of money to be made out here. Let’s all get along and let’s get it. Most of all let’s have fun while doing so. I hope anyone who appears on my forum has a pleasant experience, and I look forward to watching everyone grow in the process.

In closing as to date Miko is hard at work promoting other authors work, and helping them to rise in the Urban Fiction Arena while diligently taking care of her family. You can contact her on FB, and iurban.org by clicking these icons below:

Crazy Ass Video of The Week: Going Ape Sh*T!

Warning! This video contains Gorilla Taktics probably taught by my main man Mustajab the best man in the security business. You will witness one of the most severe beat downs of all time. Mostly you will learn not to F**k with the Gorillas, as they are kind and courteous but are still beasts at heart. LOL!

Anyway, I picked up this video from a very good friend of mine named Fyre Mouth which had me LMAO. Watching it I have learned that there are moments in life when we all go ape sh*t whether it is called for or not but it’s up to you to be the judge of that moment. Maybe some will learn to control the switch and others will not.

Even though this moment has happened to everyone in our lives it’s how we handle it which determines our futures. Although it is funny, some of you my find it has a racist undertone to it because of the characters involved, but I don’t believe that was the pres  intent of the presenter. However the point of the video is watch how you step to people because it could cause you to get your a** beat by the non-aggressor. With that said enjoy.

The New Queen Of Erotica has Arrived: Meet FYRE MOUTH

She's far from being a little angel. Fyre Mouth will make you sweat more than two fat men huddled together in a small car during a heat wave.

She’s far from being a little angel. Fyre Mouth will make you sweat more than two fat men huddled together in a small car during a heat wave.

Meet Fyre Mouth…the sassy but classy lady from the “Capital City’, Baton Rouge, the metropolis paradise of waterfront Louisiana; A memorable city where great food, voodoo, partying, and sexiness go hand in hand. Being the ninth largest city in the US with a population of eight-hundred thousand plus, I didn’t have quite as of a hard of a time as I thought I would tracking down one of the newest and hottest authors to heat up the Urban Erotica scene since Zane first appeared in the early 2,000′s.

I first spotted Fyre Mouth standing on the  corner via Google Maps. I saw her standing downtown in Louisiana on the corner of Lafayette Street directly in front of the Hampton Inn & Suites selling Dildo’s and Popcorn, along with her sensational  books which she vigorously sold to older mature men and young ladies exiting a festive event.

Immediately, I picked up the phone and asked her, “Fyre Mouth! What the hell are you doing?”

Her smug response to me was, “I’m putting Viagra out of business! My books are the cure for impudence.”

Truly, I was shocked as I logged back onto my computer and witnessed old men actually tossing their little blue pills into the trash. Immediately, I picked up the phone once again, and asked, “Okay, if your pills are the cure for impudence, then, what are the dildos for?”

Again, she answered smugly, “It’s because the women who read my book turn into nymphos.”

Not believing her, I asked, “Can I speak to the lady who just purchased the thirteen inch apparatus.” Kindly she handed the lady the phone who immediately said, “Hello.”

I asked the lady, why did she purchase a thirteen inch dildo, and she politely responded saying, “Because I don’t think your long enough and it’s obvious that you haven’t read any of Fyre Mouth’s books. Man, I’m sorry but I gotta go handle my business”

With that said, for all who don’t know, I introduce to you all  —Fyre Mouth.

The New Queen of Passion Is Here!

DionCheese.Com: What are you passionate about writing?

Fyre Mouth: I am passionate about any and everything. I love crime, mysteries, drama, and sex wrapped all into one book.

DC: Did growing up in Baton Rouge influence your writing or did it take place after losing your virginity? LOL!

FM: Nope it didn’t influence me. I was born and raised in the projects until I was about 12. Then my family relocated to a rural area  just outside of the city. It was definitely a culture shock for me.

DC: How many books do you have currently released?

FM: I currently have three available with the fourth one due this month of March.

DC: Have any of your books made it to the top 100 on Amazon yet?

FM: Yes, all of them have made it to the top 10.

DC: How did you get your publishing deal?

FM: It was a mistake actually. I was inquiring about information for self publishing. I sent Shameek Speight to my fan page and within 5 mins, he offered me a book deal. Also, once I sent him my work he didn’t call me until a few days later saying that ‘he and his significant other were trapped up in the Hotel’ over the weekend discussing the details of my book!LOL

DC: Is that really true about Shameek?

FM: No, but he did love it nevertheless. LOL!

DC: I’ve heard that you have two daughters, one near adulthood, and the other an adult. Have either of them ever read your books?

FM: No, they have never read my books to my knowledge. But I am beginning to think one of them may have because she keeps asking me “Momma, what in the hell does masochistic mean?” LOL!

DC: What was their initial reaction? Did they say something like “Momma You a freak! You lied to us! You told us when we were little that those squeaking sounds in your bedroom was because your bed had shocks and needed oil…”

FM: Lmao!! Well, they know I write erotica. They just don’t know the extent of it that I write. It doesn’t bother them, and by the way, we were play fighting in bed!

DC: Does your significant others own a 55 gallon drum of Vaseline? Because  now I do after reading your books? I buy econo-sizes so act surprised you know that your books are that good. I even went out and bought a few condoms thinking one of your characters was coming to my place. Dear Heavenly Father forgive me for I am about to sin I often say. LOL!

FM: Lol! Actually, he has never heard or read anything I have written. Yes I have heard many testimonies about my ink!

DC: How did you get the name Fyre Mouth?FM: A dear friend started calling me that because he said I had a very potty mouth Lol!

DC: Hypothetically speaking, what would you do if you walked into a room and accidentally saw a male member of your family masturbating to your book?

FM: I would politely turn around and walk clean out! When he finishes, I will ask him how it was!

DC: Have you done any book signings as of yet? And if you have, has any turned into a massive orgy?

FM: Not yet. But it is something I would like to do in the future.

DC: What if I were to tell you that your books have caused problems in my relationship?

FM: What problems?

DC: Flaccidity. I can’t even get myself worked up anymore, and your books are the problem that I find it hard to wait at times. My fiance tells me she’s suing you? LOL!

FM: Well, please tell her that it’s not my fought that I’m such a detailed writer, and you shouldn’t be reading my books if you plan on having an intimate night with your significant other. LOL!

DC: I also talked to a few buddies of mine who stated they have the same problems and that they find themselves taking 40 minute showers after reading one of your novels. It’s as though they are addicted. What’s your solution to their problems?

FM: My solution is that they buy my whole series.

DC: Are you kidding me my friends would never leave the house! What’s your solution?

FM: Hand cramps. (Smiling)

DC: What do hand cramps have to do with anything, and what in the hell are hand cramps?

FM: Hand cramps, is what they will get from having a severe form of excessive masturbationitis when one can no longer use their hands for uhm, you know the rest. Will this suffice? LOL!

DC: I guess so having experienced the symptoms myself. LOL!  Hypothetical question, you’re at a book signing and someone hands you a book to sign. A male pervert per say. He hands you the book then eagerly awaits you to sign it. After you sign he says, Thank you Ms. Mouth, I masturbated on this book without Vaseline, and to show you he’s not lying he shows you his hairy cracked palms. What do you do? A. Call security? B. Shout out, Get Away Pervert! C. Just smile and say thank you, and sanitize your hands? Or D. Get up and pull out a can of whip ass? lol

FM: LOL! Actually, I would grab  some hand sanitizer and use it on my hands. Then I would thank him and let him know when the next book would be available.

DC: What makes your style of writing different from others in your genre?

FM: I am direct, to the point, highly descriptive, and my ink will put you in the place of the characters. My goal is to produce you an image through words that will put you in the story as it takes place.

DC: What advice do you have besides follow your dreams for others pursuing their authorship careers?

FM: Never give up. Promote and tell the world. Anyone can write but it takes a special person to tell a story.

DC: This is serious, please don’t laugh but if you become Oprah famous can you buy me one of those life-like dolls so I can save some money on those 55 gallon drums?

FM: Lol, Yes! I will buy you two of any nationality and buy one for myself as well!

DC: It’s been a pleasure. Thank you.

True Glory Publications Strikes Back

Dear Ripoff Artists Editors &Misled Reviewers:

dion cheeseWhile browsing the web I came across an article which basically lambasted my new publishing home, and CEO Shameek Speight for issuing such a poorly edited book written by Shameek called Child of a Crackhead 2. The article was written by amateur blogger Jason Frost whom respectfully is entitled to his own opinion which are like eyeballs meaning; everyone at least has two.

The article he wrote and posted on March 14, 2014 on his blog called the Rubicon Reader takes some personal cheap shots at a man whom has earned my respect. This asinine article seems to emanate from chronic haterism for it is entitled “Tired of authors and their bitch-assness!” See link: http://goo.gl/dIJRgE

However, knowing Shameek personally from several conversations, I must tip my hat on any man who came from the streets hustling crack cocaine, to becoming a dedicated father, entrepreneur, and mentor to others. Releasing several books within a month while trying to maintain a family the legit way is no easy task; and most certainly are not the characteristics of a lazy man. For Jason Frost to blame authors for mistakes in self-published works that have grammatical errors, is just plain wrong. As an author myself who knows the process of publishing a book I come across many with grammatical errors within including my own. Although while not egregious as some I too was shamed by Xlibris (my first publishing company) who had as they claimed formatted my book wrong and released it.  When I pointed out that I had thirteen errors within the first chapter they simply sent me a copy of my contract and said you approved.

The crux of my point is that I knew that I sent my manuscript with typos, etc. But I also understood that I PAID Xlibris a lot of money for them render professional editorial services as they had advertised as I ordered the premium package. To make a long story short Xlibris stood by their subpar work knowing that readers would blame me for their lackadaisical editing. However, I was not having it so I wrote a letter to the BBB, and at the end of the day no contract can withstand sub par work that is obviously below industry standards. Yes, my understanding of law from my federal prison days paid off and I made Xlibris do the entire book over from scratch. At the end of the day there still were four errors within the book, but they were ones I could live with, and besides that I wanted my book out. After dumping several thousands of dollars into the book with the help of my Annabella we were proud of what we had accomplished together.  So, I can understand what Shameek has gone through along with several other urban fiction authors who were and still are green when it comes to the publishing industry.

child of a crackhead 2Readers, answer this question for yourselves, Do you really believe that any author says to his or herself, “Yeah, I don’t give a F**K, about having misspelled words in my book as long as the dollars come pouring in.” knowing that you have Stephen Kings out there, Jerome Dickeys, and so forth. Jason Frost, are you serious? To refer to a man or any author who tried their best to produce something they believed in as you put it “bitch-assness” ought to shut down your blog.

Also, many urban fiction writers come from backgrounds that do not offer the best educational system available. I know that Shameek or True Glory may not always have all the answers because the company is growing, and I will also assure you that TGP is much more than just a Facebook company trying to make a dollar off of selling bad books. We are rebranding. TGP has legit “National Best Selling Authors” such as Shameek, and Sonovia Alexander who have written and produced works that have hit the number one spot on numerous occasions.

Therefore if you are tired of “bitch-assness” as you proclaim before you decide to single out one man and his entire company which has numerous titles, and authors; look in the mirror and point. Then you will see four fingers pointing back.

Oh, Mr. Frost there’s one last word that I must say about those fingers. Just know the middle finger is from us. We are watching you.

Sincerely,

Dion Cheese, Author on behalf of True Glory Publications

Digital Artist from Across the Pond

Meet Renowned Digital Artist: Virajitha Leelananda

LIQUID PIXEL 2014 LOGO wallpaper 1080p

Vira hard at work bringing other people's visions to life.

Vira hard at work bringing other people’s visions to life.

Thanks to the digital age I had the opportunity of meeting one of the world’s most fantastic digital artist’s to date; Virajitha (Vira) Leelander, a prominent figure from across the pond. Seemingly with today’s technology we are no longer limited to working within confinement spaces. With just a simple click of the keyboard the world is at your fingertips along with a host of talented individuals who are able to make one’s digital dreams come to life as did Vira for dioncheese.com among other greats like Intech Creative who are making head-waves overseas and elsewhere upon the globe.

Many people including myself had once thought that a digital artist and a graphics designer are one in the same. However, through various in depth conversations with Vira I have found that there is a vast difference between the two. Vira has taught me that being a digital artist is the much more complex of the two being that a digital artist involves encoding from scratch at times, more complex animations, and the much more than making simple logos.

One thing that I have learned from Vira is, if you have a vision that involves a computer, and even some handcrafted original drawings he is definitely among the Ones to bring your envisionment to life, and much more. With that being said, his prices will not cause you to have a heart attack, or need resuscitation when you receive your bill. Doing everything from banners to book covers, and from short film work to cool animations, Vira is one person whom I would greatly recommend to anyone in need of quality digital work, and in need of fast delivery. Trust me, this man will work relentlessly until the job is done. Don’t let the visual differences fool you this man can create the best of Urban images you need. With no further adieu, I introduce to you Virajitha Leelander.

Q& A With Digital Genius Virajitha Leelander

DionCheese.com: Tell us, where exactly are you from?

Virajitha Leelananda: I’m From Sri Lanka, the Black Pearl of the Indian Ocean.

DionCheese.com: Can you please explain to my audience what it is that you do as a digital artist?

Vira: Well, there are many paths for a Digital artist. I have chosen to be a 3D Generalist and VFX(Visual Effects) artist. I design all kinds of computer based graphics, animations, illustrations and videos from Concept to production.

DC: What inspired you to become a digital artist?

Vira: My father is a renowned Film Script and Lyrics Writer and an Director. Therefore, I just happened to inherit his technical side and share my creative talents with of his movie based friends. My mom also wanted me to tread into Arts and Creative thinking. I guess that path led me here and beyond because my journey has just begun. My dream is to become one of the best the world has ever seen while remaining humble at heart.

DC: Do you work alone or with a team?

You don't have to be uptight to be a boss!

You don’t have to be uptight to be a boss!

Vira: Mostly I am an one man team a sort of one man army so to speak. But when it comes to Huge VFX work (for movies) that takes a lot of time and resources. That’s when I call up a team of 3 more people because every army needs it’s team soldiers which is the key to success.

DC: How long have you been in the digital arts industry, and where do you see yourself in the next few years?

Vira: Hmm..I’m 27 years old now, and out of those 27 I have been in this industry for 14 years. Believe it or not my childhood days of video games, along with the screening of Jurrasic Park made me try harder, and that somehow got me involved into using different basic 3D softwares.

So, in about 5 years or so, I believe I will have a studio that can deliver amazing Digital content for the needs of VFX, Animation, Graphics and Illustrations for most of South Asian countries and other Clients like you in Major Countries who are across the pond so to speak.

DC: How can your services help those in the Urban Fiction industry?

Vira: Urban Fiction is a very deep method of expressing real life experiences in urban environments believe it or not, not very different from our own. It’s just that we are on different sides of the globe. As for me, I also study Philosophy and Science so as I see it, I can help Urban Fiction based clients by designing their demands via Digital Graphics. For example, I can easily create the most startling, attention grabbing, Book Covers, Video trailers, Ad Banners, Artworks, Logos, and all. Just about anything one can envision within his or her mind.

DC: When I first met via the web looking for services I was surprised that you read Urban Fiction being that you were from India. I know as Americans we tend to stereotype because of the different culturalisms but most people don’t realize that we have many things in common. Is the American culture widely accepted where you are from?

On set for film VFX (2)

Seems like Vira has soldiers wherever he goes…

Vira: It depends. Cultures evolve, people change and adjust to their extents and societies. So yeah, sometimes the American culture is accepted in some situations. The whole world is changing all the time, and thanks to the creation of the web biased walls are being broken down everyday along with stereotypical thinking.

DC: I read somewhere that your studio did work on an MTV project. How did that come about, and what capacity did you play in the completion of that particular project?

Vira: The MTV as you referred is not the international “MTV” brand. Its a local Television brand that I work at a on daily basis. I design TV program themes and special designs there. Nevertheless, it is still quite popular on our side of the pond. The station is multifaceted, and features sport events, entertainment, news , lifestyles and more. Some of our popular shows are; Driving Force, Chill Factor, Cheeky Chef and Planet Pulse.

DC: What future projects are you currently working on?

Vira: Currently, I’m working on a Upcoming Feature film for the Local CinemaIndustry. There are estimated 350 VFX shots in the film. The Sri Lankan Film Industry is at hope of generating VFX effects that will wow audiences everywhere, and I plan to do whatever I can to get it to an international standard that will be accepted throught the globe and beyond if the Martians are watching. LOL! That’s one of my main goals.

DC: How does one go about learning how to do the kind of work that you do? Were you self- taught, or did you go to a digital arts university or like manner?

Vira: Yes, I was self taught around 80% of the knowledge I have now. This industry never gets outdated and every second it gets updated. Living with nature, studying about physical forces of nature, colors, and actually having an idea about how the universe works will take your creative edge to the limit. After I had gotten hold of the basic principles of 3D graphics and Animation I managed to get 2 local diplomas in Advanced 3D animation and Compositing. Then after another 2 yearsof schooling, in 2008 I finished my education and obtained a higher diploma in VFX and 3D graphics at Frameboxx Acadamy – a substitution of Angliur Ruskin University.

DC: I am a huge fan of yours ever since you created my DIONCHEESE.COM logo made of swiss cheese with holes in it, and the mouse reading by the lamp touch up was awesome. How did you come up with the concept for the Swiss Cheese logo? I was very impressed with the results.

Vira: Yeah! It was really fun to design that awesome idea we had. When you gave me the brief description, that exact image had already been formed in my head at that moment. In my work of creative art, I always want to achieve that realistic+fantastical balance which people like to look at.

DC: How long did it take you to create the wineglass effect in your video, and are your services affordable?

Vira: Simple as it may seem the animation of liquids is very difficult at times but it took quite a bit of time to render the effects being that I am constantly working on other projects.

DC: I know that some people who may be reading this article may think that since there are cultural differences that you may not be able to capture the images they may be looking for. What would you say to such a Person.

Vira: I would say exactly what an Urban fiction writer would say, “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”

DC: How fast is your turn around rate for the creation for let’s say a logo design or an ad banners:

Vira: Its really not a huge price for anything I do. I do value my work but this is not actually my job its my hobby so I live with it. But heres an example, let’s just say for a simple banner design. It’ll go only for $10, and for Designing logos its only $5 for the design. If it involves animating them which takes more time, I will go up as high as $50 or more depending on the complexity of the project. However, I do often give new clients a break if the need arises, but one should always keep in mind that quality work is worth every penny.

DC: How can people contact you if they need your services?

Vira: Anyone can contact me through “virajithalanka@yahoo.com,” Facebook – “ Virajitha Lanka Leelananda, http://goo.gl/FOihfY” and my website – “viralankapixels.webs.home

DC: We would like to share your services with others on our new site Iurban.org would you be interested in helping out the urban fiction community with your talents?

Vira: Of Course!I am a book worm too. I have my own mini library at home and its expanding exponentially. I’m willing to design digital content for anyone interested. For some scrilla of course. LOL!

DC: Hold up! How did you hear about the word scrilla?

Vira: From reading Urban Fiction of course! LOL! It means money.

DC: This is my last question of the day and then I will go away because I know that you are extremely busy. But I always wanted to be digitized as a character. Would you be willing to make me into a Hulk like figure when you get the spare time? I would love to see it…LOL.

Vira: Hahaha! Hmm…thats actually a great idea Dion. Let’s come up with sketches for that soon shall we?Always a pleasure to work with you.

DC: Any last words for my audience that you would like to share?

Vira: Study ,study ,study and Live. That’s the perfect method. Everything in between will happen automatically. Also, if you are interested in learning Digital Content creation, feel free to email me I am always glad to help anyone who is willing to learn.

Thanks a lot for this opportunity Dion. Wishing you and all your peepz all the best in everything!

Vira,

CEO, LiquidPixel Studios.

Bonus Question: Do you Samba?
No, LOL! I don’t Samba, but I do one hell of a cupid shuffle!

If you would like to support Kimberly Jasper, and are interested in purchasing her novels You can click on the icons below::::

WHAT HATRED BREEDS is the story of Kayla and Julian Moore, a newly married couple and their struggle to stand against the evil that pursues them in the form of Stella Moreau, Julian’s nefarious mother. Kayla and Julian embark on an arduous journey that would serve as the final battle. A battle set in motion on the very day Kayla touched the fiber of her adversary…

Stella Moreau had great faith in her craft. She had faith in her lineage. Her blood was Toussaint, her name was Moreau, but she was Metoyer by right; by privilege. She had a fiercely latent centuries-old power that coursed straight through her lineage and had been passed down to her. It flowed from Geneviève, to Cèlestine, to Anastasie, to Gisèle, to Grandmere Lisette, to Maman Angelique, to Stella. Metoyer’s did not have to operate under the confines of voodoo; they were not bound by the laws of rituals; they called to something deeper. Something darker. Of course the mere myth of voodoo was enough to evoke fear within every living being in Louisiana. If they knew the true source of the darkness that lie behind the Metoyer’s power, they would pray for their souls. The Metoyer’s were more powerful than the boundaries of voodoo and far darker than any ritual. Voodoo was the authority that ran New Orleans, so voodoo was what the Metoyer’s had hidden their power behind for centuries.

This book will take you to the underbelly of spiritual warfare and have you riveted as the story begins to unfold with each page. Surprisingly, Kayla and Julian’s plight is not uncommon and the reader will instantly be able to identify with the torrid love story tangled within the stronghold of darkness.

The Chronicles of Epiphany Jones

EPIPHANY JONES is living out her Sex and the City fantasy in New York as a magazine editor turned accidental model. With her career as her first love, Epiphany finds it hard to make time for her true love and gets caught up in one triangle after another that keeps her on her toes in every erotic way possible. After she suffers an inconceivable loss, her life, love and her career comes to an abrupt halt until she is presented with an offer she simply cannot refuse.

Old loves, new loves, sex, money and secrets makes for an electrifying journey as Epiphany tumbles from one thrilling experience to the next.

Sonovia Alexander: The Eight Hit Wonder

The Eighth Wonder Has Arrived
Sonovia Blackoutfit

Sonovia Alexander The Crowned Queen of Urban fiction Lit has cracked the glass ceiling numerous times over…

Authoress Sonovia Alexander is living the fairy-tale most authors only dream about 8 times over and counting. Many have noticed that she is made of sugar and spice and everything’s nice which is the stuff Little Girls Are supposed to be Made Of. However, according to the Amazon stats, the previous statement seems to be wrong indeed for Sonovia is what Uncle Sam refers to as living, breathing Bank; and yes, I do mean with a capital B. The way she writes with a fiery passion is the main reason why the Amazon’s top 100 hasn’t seen the last of her, if anyone has ever had a magical pen, you can bet your last dollar that Sonovia Alexander knows exactly what it feels like to have one. Growing up in a busy city full of people hustling and bustling along in their daily lives Sonovia Alexander has found her gift.

Jamaica Queens, New York the birth place of Sonovia is an abode where getting shot or robbed is as common as seeing a fat man smiling at a barbecue. Despite the previously stated, Sonovia Alexander has become a national bestselling author. Recently signed to True Glory Publications under Shameek Speight the duo have managed to surpass many well-established Urban Fiction Publishers and publications by producing a string of novels that obviously have hooked the urban reading audiences like a fish out of water. Sonovia is best known for her series Silent Cries Series parts 1-4 and another called the Ghetto Love series part 1-3. Among her repertoire she has also released He loves me to death and soon to release Lustful Sins.

Sonovia has managed to hit the number one spot on Amazon with her Silent Cries Series which according to several book clubs whom I have contacted states, “Sonovia is an author who can write her ass off.” The series are listed as urban drama and much more which is what she obviously brings the game. Sonovia has a passion for writing which has surpassed all boundaries and leaves many in awe as she waves her magical pen of success. Having a busy life filled with 4 young children, a husband and still working a full time job by choice. When asked why she continues to work, she simply stated, “I’m a nurse and I love helping others.”

Having a noble spirit in tandem with her busy schedule Sonovia still finds the time to release 3 books a month. She is currently working on a few more projects due to be released within the following months to come. She also states, “I have been blessed to have the gift of writing and putting it all into my work for all to enjoy I have dreams that one I will be able to write and produce my first movie.” Being blessed to having the noble opportunity of interviewing her I have no doubt that one day she will do so. You can read my one on one with the Crowned Queen of Urban Fiction Series below, and Sonovia if you are reading this I still believe that you are Jamaican…LOL!Lustful Sins

DionCheese.Com: I hear that you are from did Jamaica Queens did growing up there influence your writing and if so, how?

Sonovia Alexander: Yes. Growing up in Queens was a big influence on how my writing got started since I lived in Far Rockaway Queens for a few years and my mom wouldn’t let me outside to play with my friends because it was dangerous. I picked up a pencil and paper and that’s how I found my love for writing.

DC: How did your writing career begin?

Sonovia: At the age of 7, I had to watch a boring black and white movie that my mother use to love watching so I grabbed my paper and pencil and started writing the movie over to my liking so when I was forced to watch the movie, I could read the new improved version I wrote.

DC: Did you self-publish initially, and if so why?

Sonovia: I started out published with two different companies that I felt wasn’t helping gain the audience that I was seeking so I tried the self publishing and did a lot better and I didn’t have to split my profits with anyone.

DC: I see that your last book is with True Glory Publications, why did you sign with them instead of remaining on your own?

Sonovia: When I in-boxed Shameek, it was for information about me doing my first launch party. He said to me that he was always looking for writers to join his family and I appreciated that I had met a publisher that considered his authors as his family. I sent my first 3 chapters as requested and he liked it. From then on a contract was sent and I became a true glory author.

DC: What is the title of your current release, and what is it ranking as of today?

Sonovia: My current release that dropped February 28 was Lustful Sins and it’s in the top 100 on the best sellers list.

DC: How did you feel when you realized that your book was becoming a number one bestseller among millions of other titles?

Sonovia: It was overwhelming and also a great feeling. I never imagined my books being number one but I was excited and proud of myself.

DC: Have you read any books from any authors from your hometown and have they influenced you in any fashion?

Sonovia: I read a lot of books and not really sure of the locations of the writers but the first author whose book I thoroughly enjoyed and that I admired was Sistah Souljah. She had a great big influence on me.

DC: What is the main quintessence within your story that you feel is the most important aspect of your novella?

Sonovia: That no family is perfect and they all go through their trials and tribulations, but at the end of the day they should ride for their loved ones no matter what.

DC: You have eight Amazon bestsellers; a phenomenal accomplishment in anybodies eyes, and are also a National bestselling author as well. Can you please tell us what the difference between the two is?

Sonovia: The difference between the two is when you’re a best seller; you have reached an audience that made your book popular 1-clicking at the same time. That book was hot when it first dropped and when a crowd of people purchased it, it put you on the best seller list. When you become a national best seller, you have sold books nationwide. People all over the United States are buying your books.

DC: I see that you are also a full-time mom, wife, and nurse. Hell, Not to be prejudice but you must be a Jamiacan. I have six jobs mon, LOL! So how in the hell do you manage to write three books in a month? I mean do you cook grits and type with the other free hand?

Sonovia: I’m not Jamaican. I’m African American. LOL! I make a schedule for myself that I follow that allows me to work, come home and cook, pick my kids up from school, feed them and do my motherly duties, once I put them in bed at 9pm, I start writing. I type 100wpm so I can write up to 10,000 words in 4 hours non stop. My husband works nights so when he gets home I’m in bed. He wakes me when he gets in and we talk before I head back to sleep. The days that we are both off is our time and I don’t write.

DC: Do you have a waterproof computer that you take to the shower? What’s the secret we only have 24 hours in a day?

Sonovia: Are you serious? LOL! I  do write 4 hours a day and 4-5 days a week that way I don’t neglect my other responsibilities.

DC: Do you feel that selling novels is easier when you are signed versus being self-published?

Sonovia: It all depends on what how you set your own goals for yourself. If your self published or signed to a company, the main thing you have to worry about is selling yourself and gaining an audience that accepts and love your work. You put in the same effort being self published as well as being signed to a company. I would say that it’s the same.

DC: What was the best moment that you have ever had at a book signing? And are you currently in the process of doing more?

Sonovia: To see how many people actually showed up and wanted a signed copy of my books. It was the best moment in life that I will always remember. I am looking to do another one soon.

DC: What advice would you give to other authors searching for a book contract?

Sonovia: Try researching and learning everything you need to know first about the companies you go after. Not all companies are what they might appear to be. I would encourage you to try self publishing your own work first and learning how to promote and sell yourself to people so you can have a bit of experience under your belt.

DC: What is your biggest do and don’t about writing?

Sonovia: I set deadlines for myself and that is something I do on my own. What i would say that you shouldn’t do is rush your work. Always go over your work and make sure that the story is flowing good and not jumping all over the place.

DC: Do you feel that Urban Fiction is a credible field of literature?

Sonovia: I believe it is.

DC: Do you believe  Martians are little green men?

Sonovia: LOL! No.

DC: What do you have to say to the naysayers who claim that Urban Fiction is trash and that it has a bad influence on the African American culture?

Sonovia: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but my thing is this. People that write movies that have crime, profanity, sex, drugs etc… are all writers and people will pay to go and see it. What is the difference then a writer writing about it and you reading it. There is no difference. The movie might not state that It’s Urban but it is still fiction and the vision of a writer that wrote the movie and that’s what us writers do when we write urban fiction novels based on our own imagination. Look for the message that the writer is trying to tell and not judge them on how it’s written or the genre it’s under.

DC: I see that you’ve consistently received a fair amount of five star reviews on your first novel do you feel that reviews are important, and why?

Sonovia: Reviews are very important because it helps a writer to grow in maturity in the business. A review might state that they enjoyed the work and will say that they want to know more about a certain character or feel that you didn’t talk more about a situation in the book and as a writer, we might have missed that small detail and not even thought about it and can improve in the next installment.

DC: What can we look forward to reading in the future from you?

Sonovia: I’m going to be releasing 3 books for the month of March. He Loves Me to Death Pt 2 , Ghetto Love Pt 4, and Silent Cries Pt 5. You can look out for those 3 this month and I will be doing my first horror book that will be dropping soon.

DC: This last question is serious would you help me to become a bestselling author by crediting me for one of your books? Answer carefully because I’m a big guy and very violent at that? So are you going to admit that I wrote your current book or would you rather buy me a meal instead? I will and do work for food. Seeing that you have managed to hold six jobs, a husband and raise four children you must be a good cook. So what’s it gonna be? LOL

Sonovia: LOL! Well I won’t let you take credit for my work unless you actually helped along the way but I could help you become a best seller by supporting you and promoting your work to all the book clubs I’m attached to.

GOOD2GO An Urban Publishing Dynasty

While hanging out on my iurban.org Facebook Fan/Supporters of the Urban Fiction Movement page I happen to run into a lovely Submissions Agent named Detra Young. She was so kind to have enlightened me about the submission guidelines for Good2Go Publications which is an Arizona based company that publishes urban Fiction.

Yes, I said Arizona. Even though most would think of Arizona as a place full of nothing more than desert land full with prickly cactus plants and tumbleweeds Good2GO Publishing is located in what is termed as an “urban village” which can be a pretty rough environment at times. The company has a very good reputation across the web as going to bat for it’s authors, and uses aggressive and useful tactics to get the word out  about their authors. Thus far they have been doing a great job, having been around for quite sometime now. The company has many well-known authors (some even from within the prison system as well) such as JASON BRENT, and REALITY WAY. Other well-known authors of the brand are  MYCHEA, and SILK WHITE (Owner/Publisher/Author) of this mid-west Urban Empire that has also entered into film making.

DionCheese.Com: Where are you from, and how did you become publishing submissions agent?

Detra Young: I am from Charleston S.C., and Ray Brown offered me the position.

DC: Are there any special requirements one has to have in order to become a literary agent in your capacity, such as having a doctorate’s degree, or being a college graduate, or maybe an English major of sorts?

Detra: For me I just happened to be an educator, English major, and I have a passion for helping people. But most of all, I love reading. However, it would be good to have some kind of education in this area so you can be a good asset for the company.

DC: What does your day to day routine entail when it comes to your job as a submissions agent?

Detra: I read just read. I mean, that I do a lot of reading on a daily basis regardless of what I encounter.

DC: Does your job often spill over into your personal time?

Detra: No my job is separate from my personal life. I set boundaries.

DC: Is Good2Go Publishing your first employer in this field? And how long have you been involved with the company?

Detra: No I have worked with Wahida Clark Publishing as Author VICTOR L. Martin’s PERSONAL ASST/SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER, and  I have been friends with Silk White since 2008. I then started working there in 2012.

DC: How is Good2Go different from other companies that accept manuscripts from unsolicited authors (Those without an agent)?

DC: GOOD2GO is different because Ray brown has set a standard on what we will accept. He will not accept from unsolicited authors, and wants nothing less. He is funny about publishing anything but the best.

DC: What should authors avoid when sending in manuscripts to your company in respect to the manuscripts; cover letters, formatting, etc?

Detra: They should avoid submitting anything that is non related to their book.

DC: Have you ever read a submission manuscript that was written so badly that made you burst out laughing and ask yourself, “No, are you serious? I just know this must be a joke?”

Detra: YES I HAVE! HA-HA!

DC: What perturbs you the most about going through submitted manuscripts?

Detra: It’s when a manuscript is all over the place. I don’t know who is talking or who is the main character, and the story is just plain confused period.

DC: What are the top three reasons most authors are turned down by Good2Go Publishing or elsewhere?

Detra: One. Their work is not what we feel our audience wants. Two. their work doesn’t meet our standards. Or three it could be that the author is all over the place with their work, and may need time to get it right, etc.

DC: Has a rejected author ever written you are your company an offensive letter due to their manuscript being rejected that was absolutely uncalled for? Would you like to share an example? Of course you can leave out real names in order to protect the guilty…LOL

Detra: HAHA! Yes, rejection letters are sent out and received. When Good2Go sends out a rejection letter we can stand on why we rejected the author’s manuscript, and Ray Brown handles that.

DC: Do you feel that the self-publishing industry in regards to urban fiction has lowered the bar somewhat in the quality of stories being released?

Detra: Yes, I feel that some of the work has a lower quality.

DC: How long does it usually take for your company to respond to an author’s submission?

Detra: GOOD2GO makes their best efforts to always respond in a timely manner to an Author’s submission.

DC: I know that most companies take as long as 6 months up to a year to respond to an inquiry? Can you explain why? Is that the industry norm?

Detra: I can only speak for GOOD2GO , and that’s what they have me for. I take the pressure off of them so they can focus on writing which is what they do best. However, some companies have a lot on their plates, and a lot of companies are self start-ups by self-publishers. Many write books well, and they read their own submitted manuscripts. So that alone is very time consuming along with running a company. It’s a lot and therefore a lot of authors just have to learn to be patient.

DC: Can you give new authors some insight as pertaining to the stages a manuscript must go through in order to be accepted by Good2Go Publishing? I know that most unpublished authors would love for any submission agent to just pick up their manuscript, read it and say, “Wow! What a great book…” but that usually isn’t the case.

Detra: A  well written 5 star book is what Good2Go is looking for.

DC: Has anyone you ever chose to submit to the company become a bestselling author?

Detra: MYCHEA is doing well, and so is JASON BRENT

DC: I know that most authors look at submission agents as the bad guys of the industry because in a way you are the gatekeepers of the publishing companies. It’s your word which can make or break careers. Is there anything you would like to say in your defense as to why authors should respect your assessment as in regard to rejecting of their manuscript?

Detra: I can only speak for myself, and I always have the best interest of the author’s work. I want the author to make money, so I want the author to give his or her best. If I accept less then as a reader, book reviewer,  and submission manuscript reviewer I am cheating the authors, and the readers.

DC: Is there anyone who is signed to Good2Go Publishing that you or your team have rejected, and later signed the author for another submission instead at a later date?

Detra: None that I’m aware of.

DC: Is most of your work as a submissions agent done inside an office cubicle within the company or is it done outside the office environment?

Detra: Outside of the office environment.

DC: Where is Good2Go publishing located and how can an author submit their work to your company?

Detra: GOOD2GO, 7311 WEST GLASS LANE, LAVEEN AZ 85339

DC: I heard that Good2Go makes movies as well. Are they based off of their own publications, or is that a separate entity that operates autonomously?

Detra: Yes, movies are made through GOOD2GO Films and SILK WHITE is the director. He loves acting and he made the film BLACK BARBIE WITH  TRA VERDEJO but  TRA wrote  BLACK BARBIE.  It was an awesome movie and the book is great. it coincided with the movie very well. And of course, you already know that i had the opportunity to read the book before it went to print.

DC: Now, this last question is very serious indeed. Are you ready for it?

Detra: Yes, I’m ready.

DC: If I am ever in the vicinity and you see me on the street will you buy me a Big Mac, some French fries, Chocolate shake, and a Double Quarter Pounder? As you know I am a struggling author and I have to eat. Yelling out, “Buy my book or I’ma beat yo A** if you don’t!” isn’t quite working for me. I do it every day, and my Amazon rankings aren’t going anywhere. Do you have any suggestions or other prospective I should pursue? LOL!

Detra: Yes,  I will buy you  Micky Ds haha. You have to get on these free social media platforms , do giveaways to readers who buy your books and write reviews .and also do book discussions too and you just have to be creative.

DC: Are there any new hot authors coming that the people should know about?

Detra: Yes, Author REALITY just dropped THE PANTY RIPPER SERIES (5 star).

In closing, I would like to thank Detra Young for graciously extending her time to dioncheese.com and to the rest of the Good2Go family for making head waves within the Urban Fiction industry.
