#NewBook: The Room at the End by Harmony Kent @harmony_kent #mysterysuspense #supernatural #harborpointeseries @StoryEmpire
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well.
Today, I’m delighted to announce the release of the eighth and final book in the Harbor Pointe Series: The Room at the End. As this is my own book, I can’t show you a review from little ole me, but I can promise you’ll love it. I can, however, share a fantastic review from Jan Sikes, so hold on to your hats! Early readers have said, ‘This is your best work yet!’ I don’t believe praise comes much higher You can find the series HERE.
Review from Jan Sikes:
Wow! What a story! This author has pulled out all the stops on this one.
Set in the near future, the world has been overtaken by soulless AI, leaving humans as dispensable commodities. Sadly, that may not be far from the truth.
Mia’s petition to the government for assisted suicide is answered with a room provided at the Harbor Pointe Inn she used to own. She’s lost everything—Her life partner, the inn, the will to live.
This excerpt from the story says it all: What did the government employed manager think of the Lighthouse Inn’s old owner coming here to end her life? For that matter, what did Mia herself think?
The author delves deep into the human psyche as we follow Mia through the days leading up to the moment she will end it all. There are more than a few surprises along the way as ghosts from days gone by visit Mia. Secrets are uncovered that change everything.
When a puppy ends up in Mia’s care, I was hopeful it might be why Mia wants to keep living. That adds another dimension to the story. Who doesn’t love a puppy?
I enjoyed all the characters in this story. Many of them had been Mia’s employees and some of them friends. Some not so much. This ghostly tale has so many delicious layers that it reminded me of eating a delightful cake only to find all sorts of hidden surprises inside. If you love suspenseful stories with ghostly visitations, you are sure to love this one. I highly recommend it!

#NewBook: The Room at the End showcased on Sally’s blog @sgc58 #mysterythriller #supernatural #fiction #novella
Hi everyone!
Happy New Year!!!
I have a lovely announcement and an apology … Sally Cronin has a wonderful post for my new novella, which publishes on Tuesday!
.
The apology is that she posted for me on the 3rd and it’s now the 6th (oh no!) We went away between Christmas and now and had not expected to have zero, yep… ZERO … data or cell signal. Usually that’s in rural Cornwall where I live , but most definitely not in a larger, well populated town! So, though way late, here is the link if you missed it too: The Post.
I’m off to visit now and answer all the fantastic comments. And if you’ve left me some words already, I cannot apologise enough for my tardiness. Life sure does happen!
Also, I continue to struggle daily with my health, which hasn’t helped me get to the point of being able to get online and caught up. I’ll close comments here to save you chatting twice.
Hugs and best wishes to you all

#NewBook: A Death at the Inn by Joan Hall @JoanHallWrites #suspense #thriller #harborpointeseries @StoryEmpire
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well.
Today, I’m delighted to announce the release of the seventh book in the Harbor Pointe Series: A Death at the Inn. I’ve read every novella in the series, and I love them all! You can find the series HERE.
My Review:
A surreal weekend. Four people, all with a common connection, coming together without one another’s knowledge. And death lurks in the dark.
‘Daryl Warren glanced at the clock, drained the last drop of bourbon from his glass, then signalled the bartender. “Another, please.” He promised himself not to get drunk. He’d wait until the weekend for that.’ … From this intriguing opening line, the author leads us through the deftly woven threads of various characters, who each gravitate to the Harbor Pointe Inn. What they don’t know is that they’re all headed to the same destination, at the same time, and for the same reason: A death at the Inn.
True to life characters with complex dialogue and interactions, together with vivid scenery, all come together to make this a compelling and memorable read. Deftly, the author inserts subtle hints and red herrings, which produce excellent foreshadowing.
The tension builds gradually and keeps the reader gripped, and then grabs you by the throat with a sudden surge of suspense, as evidenced by the following line … ‘If she could keep him talking long enough, maybe Daryl or the others would come upstairs.’ Will she make it?
Then there are the truisms and believable human reactions … ‘None of us can live our lives based on ‘what ifs.’ ‘
If you like a good, cosy mystery/thriller, then you’ll love this read. Go and buy this book! As you may have guessed, A Death at the Inn gets five stars from me.

#BookReview: Keeping Joy by Morven-May MacCallum @MorvenMay #SatireFiction #Humour #ChronicIllness #LymeDisease #GoodReads #Kindle
Hi everyone. Today I have a book review for you by an author I first read and reviewed in November 2018, Morven-May MacCallum. Here’s my review for her sequel to Finding Joy … Keeping Joy >>>
About the Book:
In this stunningly insightful and humours sequel to Finding Joy, Keeping Joy explores the long terms consequences of chronic illness. Through the eyes of Joyce, Aunt Beth and Logan we follow Joyce’s fight to regain her health and her freedom after nearly a decade of being housebound with Lyme disease.
My Review:
A darkly humorous story which explores how to regain a life while living with Lyme Disease
Disclaimer: I received a free advance review copy of this ebook, and here is my honest review.
This novel has some wonderful one liners and phrases, and is filled with the most entertaining dark humour and a raw honesty which makes even the difficult stuff funny at times. I guarantee this book will bring tears of both sadness and laughter.
As with the first book, spelling mistakes, missing words, and awkward sentences make a fair few appearances. With some polishing, this would, easily, be a five-star read. The story telling and character portrayals certainly earn that.
With all of that said, the story premise, plot, pacing, characters, and world building are all done so well you feel as though you are right there next to the many characters from whose point of view the tale is told. The bravery of the main character and her supporters is moving and superbly expressed. Below are some lines that stood out for me …
‘It’s hard to know how far to push Joy, when to leave her alone because she’s not well and when to not leave her alone because she’s feeling low–the two are so closely connected that it’s not easy to tell them apart.’
And …
‘I’m not sure if I fell asleep, or maybe I passed out. Either way, scraping myself up off the floor felt a lot like trying to peel superglue off my skin.’
And …
‘I’ve stopped fighting to reclaim a life that’s unobtainable. There is no back, no pause, there is only now.’
This read moved me so much. In a great irony, 5 years ago when I read Finding Joy, I was disabled but well. Now, I also suffer a chronic illness—not Lyme—but so much of the experiences in this novel resonated with me and I found it all too easy to relate.
I highly recommend Keeping Joy by Morven-May MacCallum, which gets a strong four stars from me. On a side note, you will get a lot more from this second book if you read Finding Joy first. Go and check out both books!

***I continue to have limited energy and time, and so need to continue posting reviews infrequently. Thank you for understanding and all your support. Now and then, I will post a review for any authors in my online circle, but won’t be reviewing traditionally published books. I’ll pop in from time to time with updates and teasers on my planned projects.
Those projects have stalled momentarily, but I’m determined to get them moving again soonest. Unfortunately, I caught COVID a while back and though I tested clear about a month ago, my lungs, energy, and brain haven’t received the memo , and added to the Fibro, it’s all doing a number on me.
My novella The Room at the End, which publishes on January 9th, has 19 preorders so far and I’m so excited and grateful . For those of you who haven’t yet ordered and would like to, here are the UK and US links …

#NewBook: A Fathomless Affair by Staci Troilo @stacitroilo #mysteryromance #witchandwizardmysteries #harborpointeseries @StoryEmpire
Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well.
Today, I’m delighted to announce the release of the sixth book in the Harbor Pointe Series: A Fathomless Affair. I’ve read every novella in the series, and I love them all! You can find the series HERE.
My Review:
A fun family drama with a side of ghostly apparitions and maybe even a hint of romance if all the drama doesn’t get in the way.
Can Lorelei hope to turn around the catastrophes that encircle her and find time for herself and her needs? Well, not to put in spoilers, you’ll have to read this fantastic novella to find out!
As ever with this author, the writing is strong, concise yet wonderfully descriptive, with characters so lifelike you live their story with them rather than just reading, and a delicious sense of humour runs throughout the narrative and all-too-realistic dialogue. Below are some lines I loved …
‘ By the time she tugged it closed, her umbrella was a lost cause, and her hair and clothes conformed to every contour of her goose-pimpled figure.’
And …
‘… so she ignored her inner Eeyore and attempted to return his smile.’ Love the humour in this!
And …
‘… “You’d know that if you were married.” |She wasn’t touching that one with rubber gloves and hand sanitizer.’
And …
‘Founder or not, that painting should be thrown away. At least placed in a basement to scare off rats.’
I could keep going, as there are so many great lines in this book, but I’ve forced myself to stop. You really have to read this wonderful, fun, and entertaining novella! A Fathomless Affair by Staci Troilo gets a resounding 5 stars from me.
