Deadline!

People have called. People have emailed. I swear I'm fine. I blame the deadline for my lack of communication. Honestly? This last book just kicked my butt. Getting the pacing right was a constant struggle. That happens sometimes. The book is now done – YES! – and I love it. But I'm comatose. Well, I would be if I didn't have to turn around and do final page proofs on another book.

So…if you've written me an email or called or whatever, I promise I'll get back to you. This weekend i...

Snippet Saturday

This week is all about dancing. Honestly, I could only rememebr one dancing scene in all of my books. I'm sure I'm forgetting one or two, but this one sticks out. It's from HOT AS HELL. Noah and Lexy are at a hiking spa in Utah. He's there to drag her home. She's there to figure out what he's been hinding from her. But they manage to fit in a little snuggling (and arguing) on the dance floor:

Noah stood up and tugged Lexy along with him. "I'd rather dance with you than talk about...

Waiting…

If you hang around here you know that I'm not a big historical romance reader. They're just not my go-to reads. I did read one at the very beginning of this year (or was it the end of last year?) that wowed me. It was Jo Goodman's NEVER LOVE A LAWMAN. Loved the author's voice. Loved the hero. Loved the banter and sexual tension. The book totally worked for me. So, I was thrilled to see Goodman has a new book coming out at the end of the year. Here it is:

Rhyne Abbot is fierce, brave...

How I Buy

I've asked before how people choose the books they buy. Some are attracted to covers. Some need to read an excerpt before they purchase. Many insist advertising and reviews don't influence them. Here's how it breaks down for me:

1. Authors I always buy – There are folks I buy regularly. I go to their websites and click on the "Coming Soon" section, see what's coming up and then add books to my Amazon Wishlist. If I'm in the bookstore, I actively search out the authors' names and see...

Snippet Saturday

This week's topic is "is this a date?" and while I'm not 100% sure I know what that means, I do have a favorite date scene. It's actually a date/break-up scene and it's the very beginning of RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. The poor hero, Reed Larkin, has a long way to go after this:

"This isn't working."

There they were. To Gabrielle Pearson the phrase stood second only to "it's not you, it's me" as the most lame male excuse on the planet for cutting out of a date before the dessert menus hit the...

Bits & Pieces

Still writing that book. The deadline – July 15th – is sneaking up fast. I'd just like to know what the heck happened to June…or March, for that matter, since 2010 has been a blur. One of these days I'll catch up. But not today.

First, I have a monthly blog winner. Congrats to Judy F. (comment #4 on the June 8th blog) for winning the Amazon gift certificate. Email me so I can get it out to you.

Second, Wendy (as in Wendy the Super Librarian) wrote a fabulous review of NIGHT MOVES. Go to ...

Future Reading

I am on deadline but I've been looking out for a few books to read post-deadline. I thought I'd share a few:

1. I've been meaning to buy A BAD DAY FOR SORRY by Sophie Littlefield. Her second book, A BAD DAY FOR PRETTY, is now out. The plan is to buy both since they follow the same heroine. What grabbed my attention was this part of the blurb:

Stella Hardesty dispatched her abusive husband with a wrench shortly before her fiftieth birthday. A few years later, she's so busy delivering...

Snippet Saturday

This week's topic is apologies. I actually had a hard time choosing which book to highlight. I finally decided on one of the novellas from HARD AS NAILS – "Man At The Door" – because the hero and heroine make me smile. They both have experience with bad press coverage. Her past makes her jittery and not very trusting, but for good reason. He's younger and together and not taking any crap from her.

"I'm not looking to be a newspaper headline for anything other than my art," Erin said.

"I s...

Foreign Cover

I was sent a link to my Thai cover for YOUR MOUTH DRIVES ME CRAZY from an author friend and from a reader (thank you Mica and May). Ready for it?

It doesn't really say sexy-story-set-in-Hawaii but I don't care. I'm thrilled about the foreign sale.
