Literacy Tea
Does anyone live near Richardson, Texas? I’ll be one of the authors at the The 10th annual Buns & Roses Romance Tea for Literacy. The event is on Sunday October 4th. You can buy tickets to sit at a table with a specific author. All of the authors will have goody bags for the people at their tables, but you clearly want my goody bag, right? Some TV Viewing…
After a near non-stop writing binge for the last, oh, 25 months, I’ve been trying to work on a more reasonable schedule for a few weeks. This means I’m cleaning out the DVR by doing some serious television watching each morning. The timing is perfect because some new shows started and a few came back for a new season. My most recent views:
KILLJOYS: The is a new series on the Syfy network. Killjoys are futuristic bounty hunters (reclamation agents). The top agent and leader of the team is a kickass woman. The two guys on the team are estranged brothers, one of whom is played by that guy who was on WAREHOUSE 13 near the end of the series and you liked him but you weren’t quite sure what he added to the show., Yeah, him. I really liked Killjoys. It has the potential to be clever and witty, and I am totally “in” for this lead woman saving the day over and over again thing.
DARK MATTER: This is another new Syfy show. The crew of a ship (i.e., spaceship) wakes up and no one knows who they are or why they’re there. There was a bit of nonsense in-fighting at the beginning of the first episode but the hook at the end of that episode sucked me in. I’ve watched two episodes now and am “in” thanks to the BIG SECRET I want revealed.
THE LAST SHIP: This is a returning show. 80% of the world is infected with a killer virus. The crew of a Navy ship is healthy and protecting the doctor (the former female leader in Strike Back) who developed the cure. By the end of this season’s opening episode I had a moment of “so, everything is fine now…right?” But of course it’s not, which is good because I find THE LAST SHIP to be ridiculous fun. I’m thrilled it’s back.
I also taped the second season opener of TRUE DETECTIVE. Since I’m one of the few people who didn’t love the first season, I’m ignoring it for now. I thought THE BRINK looked good but the reviews are terrible, so I think I’ll finally watch HAPPY VALLEY, the Emmy-winning British drama about a female police detective whose daughter was murdered. That one is on Netflix so I can marathon it.

A New Intrigue!
Today is release day for the print version of SHELTERED, one of my Corcoran Team: Bulletproof Bachelors books. Wahoo!!!!!

An Excerpt!
I thought today might be a good day for a little snippet from FALLING HARD:
It would help their communication if West didn’t take her so literally sometimes. “What was with the covert craziness getting here? I told you no one knows about this place.”His eyebrow lifted. “You’re alive, aren’t you?”
Talk about dramatic. “Was there a possibility I wouldn’t be?”
With a hand on her elbow, he dragged her off the hard-to-see path and closer to the side of the house. “Why the hell did you bring us here?”
“I just told you.” She was not a fan of the manhandling. Or the way he talked to her. “And do not swear at me.”
“You’ve got to be kidding.” His eyes bugged out. “I’ve heard you swear.”
The list of things he did that annoyed her grew with each passing second. She shrugged out of his hold and faced him. “Not at you. And for the record, you’re warning when I first picked you as my bodyguard wasn’t strong enough. You’re more than difficult.”

Release Day!!
Today the second book in my Bad Boys Undercover series – FALLING HARD – comes out. Wahoo!! I’m so excited because I love this book. The hero is one of my favorites. He’s the quiet type. Upcoming Release
I have two romantic suspense books coming out over the next few weeks. First, let’s talk about FALLING HARD, the second single title in my Bad Boys Undercover series from Avon. Weston Brown is a big, quiet retired Marine. He’s practical and dedicated to the team. He’s the guy they send in to get the job done without any fuss. This time the “job” is to track down Lexi Palmer and get her out of Pakistan. She’s been working in a clinic near the base of K2 and has seen some things she shouldn’t, so it’s safer for her to get out of the country. But Lexi is strong and smart and not really someone West can push around. She’s also a big talker, which drives West nuts. So, basically, they’re perfect for each other.
Here’s a short excerpt to give you a peek into their relationship at the beginning of the books:
She blew out a long breath as the stiffness across her shoulders eased. “Thank God you’re here.”West tagged her as American but definitely not male, which made little sense under the circumstances. But she wasn’t firing at random, so he considered that a bit of good luck.
Still, a potential novice with a weapon was an invitation to get his nuts blown off and he sure as hell didn’t agree to that when he signed the Alliance employment contract. “Ma’am, I need to you put that gun down.”
She blinked a few times before her gaze went to her hands. It was as if she forgot she took the weapon off the dead guy when he dropped it. “Why?”
West chalked the confusion up to chaos of the last few minutes, but shock and bullets rarely mixed well. “I don’t want to be shot.”
Her chin came up as she nodded at him. “That makes two of us, so you lower yours first.”
Okay, chaos or not her attempt to order him around was pretty fucking hot. Kind of brave, too. “No.”
Not dropping his guard, West took a second to study her. Long hair, half in and half out of a ponytail, huge whiskey brown eyes and the sexiest pouty mouth he’d ever seen. He couldn’t make out her frame under the olive pants and oversized long-sleeve tee but he guessed curvy.
Not just pretty but lose-the-ability-to-spell sexy. Of course that could be the gun. Something about a woman holding a weapon turned him on, sick twist that he was.
“I’m not really giving you a choice,” he said, more to stall than anything else.
Josiah moved in, step by small step, as if not to scare or rattle her. Pretty soon two trained men would almost be on top of her and then it was just a matter of time until one of them wrestled the weapon away from her.
And that’s how it would end because there was no way West was heading back home after this and listening to the shit he would get from Bravo team if he let a hot brunette get the jump on him and take a shot. He had a badass shoot-anything reputation to uphold.
“At this distance I can blow your balls off,” she said, looking ready to do just that.
Then again… “Okay, that’s a solid argument.”
