Fleeting but it’s there,
this swallow of happiness,

As I said before, I’m embarking (sometimes) on a new challenge to write shorter works that still have that gut punch feeling, that emotional avalanche that is relatable instantly and in short form. I’m excited to try to show that short stuff doesn’t have to be cliche and overdone, that it can be art, too. Who knows if it’ll work, but it’ll be fun to try, here we go, this is:

Poetry like a gut punch,
a sock to the stomach
before all that dancing
about the ring.
Here, call this climax
of spontaneous
persuasion,
call it foreplay
to come down all
in one.

Juneteenth today, Jubilee Day, Freedom Day. Unfortunately, we have so much more work to do until freedom actually arrives for all people, all races. We have so much more work to do, so much more lifting. This banner and motto belonged to the first and oldest Black Organization, the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, and what a beautiful way to live. My goodness we have so much more to learn. This inspired today’s haiku:
.
Never can we rise
unless we lift the oppressed
and rise together.

Let me know how you guys are digging the seed line(s) first, and the poem swiped over. I think it’s cool to give those of you who are busy a taste, and those of you who want the full dish the option for it :) Let me know. This is

Took tornado to bring me to life,
to wash this monochrome world
with technicolor, with gold.
I stood still as stone
as all the world fell down
around me.
At the center of the spinning
I swear you were bird sounds
and stillness,
the rope around my waist
and the stake driven deep
into the earth.
I was windswept,
you were laughter.
Lifted this house to the heavens,
tore the rafters from the roof,
I lived in black and white,
seeking fortune from
carnival and cart.
Took your tornado
to bring me to life, to
raise me high above
the fence line,
and cover my world
in paint.

Daily haiku and the photo inspiration behind it. I am liking this format, I hope you all are too. Kinda fun showing the way I see the world and translate it into words.

Waste away the day,
half of the time in the sheets,
half watching the clouds.

Typewriter Series #3002 by Tyler Knott Gregson
As always, swipe for the full poem if you want. Or don’t. I don’t know.
Circumstance like lightning
to the oak of connection,
all threat of burn,
of branches made ash
that won’t stop falling.
There is majesty in stillness,
strength in defying the storms,
growing large despite the
fire that was promised.
Carve Always in this trunk
and let the letters stretch;
before acorn, before sunlight,
before rainfall that began
this growth, we were there.
We were the tree before the leaf,
the roots before the seed,
we were the branches reaching
for light,
before we had a name.
Sit with me in the shade of us,
forget time and what you know
of space. Sit until we
are a single ring out of
thousands, until those letters
we carved
are two dozen miles
tall.

.
Call me like the sea
and beckon me back to you.
Lull me with your waves.
