Born with a lack, I, the piece that cared
was missing. Never bothered with
what people thought of me,
never had time for embarrassment
or comparison. I was this, they were that,
both were loved, all in between was
accepted. There was not a question of this
that plagued me.
It’ll change, they said, it’ll grow and spread
and leak in like a virus, one day
you’ll mind, you’ll care. It’ll change,
they said.
Right, in a way, I suppose they were,
it did grow, spread, and transform.
Now, more than ever before, I have no time
for how I’m perceived, for the apprehension
or anxiety of self. I am this, and have been
all these years.
There has never been a question
of this.
