Shostakovich Cello Sonata op.40 in D minor
This piece, just piano and cello, is on my current short list as one of the world’s most beautiful pieces of music. There are several excellent renditions on YouTube, including one with the sheet music scanning as it plays.

Book Tour
This week I am doing an online book tour sponsored by Elite Book Tours. A few of the expected sites did not post the book, but we’ll see what happens by week’s end, and whether there is a boost in my sales numbers and reviews. Four reviews so far on Amazon, and they all got 5 stars.
What I am lacking in volume, apparently I am making up in quality.

Sheet Lightning
I’m starting a new writing experiment — each week I will be writing a piece of Zap Fiction, less than 1000 words, in the hopes of developing a collection for later publication.
Here is the first installment, Sheet Lightning.

Tranquilo
Quiet early afternoon out on the balcony overlooking the lake where I’m riffling through my archives. A hummingbird lands on a feeder occasionally and the cat is slowly torturing a lizard to death. The coffee is a little acrid in my mouth, maybe time to shift to tea.
The link to my book is here: take a gander.

My cat, the predator
Frijol has gone hunting two days in a row now. Cat Chow just isn’t holding his attention. Two birds, no too large, and not a trace left of the second one. He’s a cool, calm, calculated killer kitty. It’s pretty scary.

Mid-May
Big rain here last night, and then a clear sky this morning. With two books finished, I have scheduled a virtual book tour for late June, and I am going to try to reach readers outside my personal circles. The quality of the writing is there, now it’s just a marketing game, a game I’ve always avoided, apparently at a great cost to my sales. I’ve also got a few songs I am going to turn into demos, just for fun. The making and marketing of an album will happen later.

The Hair Collector & Other Stories
My second book of fiction is finally out! After a long time translating and editing, “The Hair Collector & Other Stories” is available on CreateSpace and Amazon.
This bilingual English/Spanish collection contains pieces ranging from flash fiction to folktale. Set in New York, New & Old Mexico, Guatemala, Italy, and the future, eight morsels of Zap Fiction lead off the collection, and five longer stories close it out. The Spanish translations, the product of a team of people, are as true to the original English as possible.
About the author: David Howard Sherman (Davis) is a writer, musician, and international educator who has taught in five countries on four continents. His first novel, “Learning to Stutter,” is written from the inside-out as a self-help novel for people who stutter and for fluent people who deal with someone who stutters in their daily lives.

Sunday Blues (and greens)
Another night of insomnia, and Sheni says I need to stop drinking coffee. In Guatemala, that is quite difficult. The coffee, avocados, and mangoes are the best I’ve ever had — and I’ve been around the world a few times. Not total insomnia, so I shouldn’t bitch and complain. But definitely not a full night’s sleep either. Going for a swim in lake this morning, the blue water is calling me and my snorkel equipment. But green tea instead of Guatemalan coffee? Honestly, it just doesn’t cut it.
Here’s the final book cover for “The Hair Collector & Other Stories.”
Feel free to comment and let me know what you think.

Water Therapy
Went for a swim in the lake this morning, looking like a typical Chinese in a swimming pool with my cap and goggles, let’s not forget the earplugs. Cyano is down after the recent heat spell, and swimming in the lake is my act of personal solidarity with the environment, 1-on-1.
“The Hair Collector & Other Stories” is dangerously close to being finished. Look for an unnamed writer to foist a copy off on you soon.
Besides that, just staining wood and hand-washing my clothing to hang dry on the balcony. Tiny home improvements for this tiny house. I think I’m going to do a YouTube video on living small. I’ve been doing it for eight years, long before it was cool.

Just a Shot Away
Watching Champion League. Game just started between Barcelona – Atletico Madrid. Barca looked pretty poor, especially Suarez, in the loss to Real Madrid a few days ago.
“The Hair Collector & Other Stories” is very close to completion. Getting the .pdf closer to perfect, and, thanks to Matty, getting the logo finished for the cover.
Using InDesign is an awkward process, but I’m starting to like what the layout looks like so far. Being a bilingual book, I should have more avenues to find readers. The question still remains — self-publish or wait for someone to pick me up? The petitioning process itself takes up so much time.
