Blog Hop Interview!!

My friend, fellow writer WILLIAM STAFFORD roped me into doing this: four questions about what and how I write. He tagged me over twitter. I CANNOT DENY THE TAGGING!
Still, maybe it’ll be fun. And even if it isn’t, I still get to force three more people to do it, too!
1)      What are you working on right now?
I’m kind of working on two books at the moment, along with college work and university applications. The first is, as you probably know, ‘Company of Heroes’, the second in the Buan trilogy, the start of the Treagsolas Saga. At present, it’s being edited, and I hope to get it out to beta-readers soon. The other is the final instalment of Buan, ‘Disciples of Blood’, which takes place only a few hours after ‘Company of Heroes’ finished. For those of you who haven’t read ‘The Perfect Mortals’ yet, the Buan trilogy is an epic fantasy story about a group of orphaned siblings chosen by their Goddess to take on the responsibility of saving their world. There is more to it than that, I swear to the Flying Spaghetti Monster! That’s just the best way of describing it in one sentence. You’ll have to read it to find out more! *No spoilers*
2)      How does it differ from other work in its genre?
At first glance, the Buan books are rather standard. Some people with swords and magic fighting evil. But, after taking a quick trawl through the pages, it becomes clear that there’s more to it; there’s politics, diplomacy, war, sides within sides, and more facets than even I can count. The villains aren’t shown in the story until really, really late in the game, and perhaps the most powerful character in the whole story hasn’t even been shown his face yet. There are many sides to this story; it’s a Rubiks Cube with pages.
3)      Why do you write what you do?
BECAUSE THE IDEAS WON’T LEAVE ME ALONE!!! I mean, because I like writing it. It’s not a secret that I think about these books almost every second of every day, unless I’m doing something else. When I first thought of the idea that would eventually evolve into the Buan books and then the Treagsolas saga, the thoughts took hold of something in my mind and have never let go. It was inspiration, pure and simple, and I felt honour-bound to write it until the end.
4)      How does your writing process work?
This is a hard question; I haven’t done enough writing to have a set process yet. All I have is a desired process, which is start a book, write about 2000-5000 words a day, get the book done, stat editing it while getting a head start on the next one, finish editing the first while writing the second, and then publish the first, usually when the next is almost done. And repeat. So far, however, my process has been: start at 13, write a story for a year, edit it for two years, rewrite it into a trilogy, finish book one, start book two while having an editing fiasco, lose the 60,000 words I’ve already written of book two just before publishing book one, rewrite what of book two I lost, pick up where I left off on book two, finish book two and start book three while editing book two in the hopes of finally achieving my desired standard writing process. And bang my head against the wall if that doesn’t work.
Well, that was fun! Now, let’s see... I choose these three as my victims!

The First ‘Buan’ Giveaway Contest!

This is a special blog today with a special announcement; I’ve been promising to do one of these for a while, but gosh darn it, I just haven’t had the resources or opportunity to until now. It’s time for a giveaway contest! That’s right! It’s your chance to win a free eBook copy of ‘The Perfect Mortals’, as well to, guess what, TWO more books at the same time! I’ve teamed up with Jeremy Shory (author of ‘The Orion Chronicles’) and the Raven Twins (authors of ‘Soul Asylum’) to have a fun, laid back, and adventurous giveaway contest. These are three very high-quality books, offered to you, the fans, for the low, low price of… well, nothing. Absolutely nothing. Zilch, nada, zero! It’s a free ebundle!

I was approached by Jeremy a little over a week ago, (no, not like THAT!), who had the idea of having a giveaway in which the contestants had to actually WORK for it. Most of these author competitions involve just putting in your email address, waiting for it to be selected at random, and getting disappointed when someone else wins. You never seem to win! Or is that just me…? Sometimes they even involve money being spent! Anyway, this one’s a little different. The best part is that it’s fair, impartial, and totally free! Not a penny spent, only prizes won! What, did you think you’d have to get, like, a raffle ticket or something? That would defeat the object of winning ‘free’ ebooks, wouldn’t it?

So just what is the point of this competition? Well, not only does it mean we get to make our fans smile and their hearts race with excitement, but it also means more people get to look at each other’s websites and (hopefully) like what they see! And there’s the prize, of course… In this ebook bundle, you get a free copy of ‘The Perfect Mortals’, by yours truly, but also ‘The Orion Chronicles: The Journal of Forgotten Secrets’ by Jeremy Shory, and ‘Soul Asylum’ by C. L. Raven! The pictures from left to right on this blog post have links so you can take a look at these books before entering; even if you only like the look of one, go for it anyway! What have you got to lose?

Let me explain the rules: this contest will run for six consecutive weeks, starting on the first of October, a Tuesday. It’s a website scavenger hunt, put simply. Each week, the three of us are going to give three questions each pertaining to our own individual websites. That’s three each for three websites, meaning nine questions in total. How do you answer these questions, you ask? Well, you have to search the content of our websites! Searching blog posts, author biographies, book blurbs, looking for anything out of the ordinary! Then, after that, you’ll just have to post the answers as a response to the post containing the questions. Remember, we WILL NOT confirm any correct answers on the post, so that no one else just copies and pastes them again. We will contact you privately, through email or Facebook, depending on where you answer. Every week, the questions will be different. Maybe you’ll have to find an answer hidden in a description, or something hidden in the source code, or a hidden link!

Speaking of ‘hidden links’… Now, I can’t say I have any part of this since ‘Company of Heroes’ is still going through development, but if you search hard enough through Shory’s and the Raven twins’ websites, you’ll find a special hidden link in an image or hyperlinked word, which will direct you to a series of instructions on contacting them to allow YOU to win free ADVANCED copies of their up-and-coming books: ‘The Orion Chronicles: Curse of the Phantom Brotherhood’ and an anthology of ghost stories!

But, we can’t let people be greedy, so if you win once, you can’t win again. Why would you want to? You’ve already won once!

Keep your eyes peeled for the first set of questions, which will be revealed soon…

Back To The Books!

Now the summer is slowly and surely leaving us. The days are growing shorter, the wind is growing colder, (or, well, rhythmically cool and warm if you’re in England,) and people are winding down in preparation for things to take that nosedive from exciting to educational. Not that that’s such a bad thing; you get to see those friends you never saw in summer because attendance is mandatory, you get to do lots more reading because it’s mandatory, and you get to get out of the house and do stuff again because it’s mandatory.

...Or is that just me?

Summer Con-Fun-Drum

So, summer’s coming around the corner in its stride. That is, the summer season is already here, but as an AS student, I still have two more days left of college until I’m set free for a month or so and am able to bask in the sunlight for a while. Until then, I have work to do and am left to bake in the unreasonable heat currently bathing England. It says a lot when you can sweat as much as you would after three hours at the gym just by watching YouTube videos.

But what’s the plan for the summer, then? What sort of hilarious hijinks will I get up to? That, my friends, is my summer conundrum.

On My Aspergers

Hey, guys! How you doing? Keeping safe? Staying out of trouble? Glad to hear it! I’ve been fine, too, thanks for asking! I know it’s been a couple of months since I wrote a blog post last, so I thought I’d post a little something to let you all know that I’m not dead! Yup, no funerals for me yet!

So let’s see... What’s been happening to me? Well, for starters, I suppose that I should mention that in two days time, I’ll have been a published author for two months! Isn’t that exciting? A whole sixth of a year! It’s almost breath-taking. You guys would never believe just how great it feels to have finally made my dream come true. For an autistic person like me, it’s grand!
