Questo arriva da Baylee della siepedimore (grazie Baylee!) e, come già accennavo da un’altra parte, sono sempre combattuto quando mi arrivano queste cose.

Il tag arriva da Sam di esconodallefottutepareti (ciao Sam) e, come accade di solito in questi casi, lo ricevo con un misto di gratitudine (per la considerazione) e timore (oh, no, ma poi mi tocca partecipare?).

(sì, lo sai, lo sai, che quando aggiungo ‘outsider’ nelle bio ti sto anticipando un comportamento piuttosto selvatico da parte del sottoscritto)

I supereroi DC raccontati nei classici della letteratura

Te lo ricordi quel post in cui forzavamo un bel po’ di supereroi Marvel all’interno di grandi classici della letteratura? Che forza, eh? Io me lo stavo quasi dimenticando. Però, se ricordo bene, qualcuno aveva ipotizzato di fare la stessa cosa coi supereroi della DC Comics.

Tieniti forte, quindi, che io di supereroi non so una cippa, e infatti la parte più difficile di questo viaggio è stata capire chi cavolo sono i supereroi DC.

Per curiosità, dopo aver letto questa cosa, sono andato a controllare lo stato del feed reader (a proposito, uso TheOldReader).

Ci sono 62 sottoscrizioni divise in 8 categorie (podcast, games, dev, reading, nerd, marketing, informazione, altro).

Non tutti i feed a cui sono iscritto pubblicano regolarmente, mentre altri pubblicano parecchi post al giorno. Da questo conteggio sto escludendo tutti i blog che seguo su WordPress, che per la sua natura più ‘sociale’ fornisce già al suo interno una buo...

Procediamo a casaccio con un ricordo professionale che si collega a un film che si collega a un libro.

L’unica volta che ho collaborato con una facoltà di archeologia è stato per un incarico a dir poco particolare. Un docente aveva realizzato un software per catalogare e memorizzare informazioni sui ritrovamenti di particolari anfore greche. Da buon smanettone (si capiva che quello che aveva fatto lo aveva fatto per piacere, non per dovere) il docente aveva creato sia il database che l’applicazi...

Un dubbio

Domanda velocissima perché mi è venuto il dubbio. Così, per sapere.

Di solito per mantenere questo blog semplice, pulito e ‘amichevole’ nei confronti del lettore cerco di limitare i link al minimo indispensabile.

Questo significa che quando parlo di film, libri, serie e roba altrui il più delle volte NON metto un link e ti lascio la libertà (incombenza?) di andarti a cercare il prodotto in questione.

Every 44 days

Over the past 500 years, Earth has been under threat of destruction 8.23 times a year. Every 44 days, approximately. The threat of destruction has not always been about the Earth. Sometimes it is limited to the human population. Or part of the population. And the threat is not always from space. Sometimes it comes from our own planet. Sometimes from other dimensions. Sometimes from other continuums. Sometimes from a divine caprice. But that's not so important. The important thing is that, in face of a constantly dangerous universe, there is somebody able to deal 8.23 dangers of destruction a year. And, if possible, save the Earth. Or part of the population. Well, you get it. That someone, thankfully, exists.

You can't say you haven't seen it coming. Partly because it took hard work, teasers, sweat, hassles, and time. A long time.

In the end, it turned out. The English language version of 'Ogni 44 giorni', a short novel which tells the adventures of a small town in the Bassa of Ferrara to all the people who do not even know what it is, a small town in the Bassa of Ferrara.

Ah. And aliens, supercomputers, teleportation, and Broza guns.

dystopic, idiotic

It's great fun to see that there is no a limit to human stupidity when it comes to inventing dystopias.

No, before you crucify me, I am not speaking of idiocy of the writer. I am not speaking of idiocy of the movie. I am not even speaking of idiocy of the reader. And I am not speaking of idiocy of the novel.

I am speaking of the obvious idiocy of an hypothetical humanity that has worked to build regimens and worlds where the rules are so far from common sense of anyone to result unbelievable. Understanding what was the path of acceptance of such schemes and rules seems, at least for me, too great to be overcome.

How is it possible, I wonder, that a society evolves in a completely idiotic allowing deadly elimination games or a rigid organization for unknown reasons, or a very expensive continuous control of its own citizens? How can a society be allowed to evolve in this way, and what benefits can draw?

Or. Maybe the whole thing relies on the hypothesis raised by the Idiocracy movie? It is more realistic a future in which the idiots breed far more than smart people and are therefore intended to drastically reduce the IQ of mankind? Everything returns, in the end?

To think of it, however, the various dystopias are not so far from reality. Whenever I face directly or indirectly the Italian institution, the blind bureaucracy, idiocracy and gerontocracy spread in my country, I wonder if really we are already living in a dystopia and, above all, how we got here.

Anyway.

Let's try to lighten the load. I promise that, if one day I had to explore the genre and write a dystopian novel, this will meet the following:

1. A totalitarian state requires all citizens to dress up as plush animals. Because yes. And also because a population forced to dress ridiculously will be less capable to revolt against the oppressive government. Try it, to protest dressed in a pink bunny suit.

2. The population is divided into exclusive castes determined by plush animals represented by people's clothes. There are the arrogant pigs, the cute rabbits, the adorable kittens, the annoying monkeys, the elusive unicorns.

3. The main character does not accept having to dress up as platypus. Tries to be accepted by other castes (ducks, beavers, otters) taking advantage of the similarity of his clothes with them. But inevitably fails and is repelled. He ends up rebelling and starts to dress differently. With the plastic bags of the packaging of plush clothes. Others imitate him. This is the beginning of a revolution. The plastic bag revolution.

Yes, my first novel has been translated in english language. Is it enough for publishing? Obviously not. Translation was made by different people and, as far as I can see, has many flaws. It is now under editing but, before being ready to publish it, I need an extra effort and give it to read to someone.

This time I can't rely on my very brave (and good) Italian beta readers. It's necessary the help of someone who is a native English speaker, who is a regular reader (and lover) of science fiction and who is patient, accurate and available.
