Notes on ratings.
I don't have clear recollection of some of the books I read decades ago, although I did at the time log their title and author. So when I joined Goodreads, as a compromise, I simply gave the books I didn't have strong memories of a three-star rating.
Nowadays, since I usually put a lot of thought and investigation into my reading choices, I tend to rate high--four or five stars. Because I know what I like and I don't bother much with what I know I won't.
Which is not to say I don't make mistakes. Or that I don't intentionally read books that are badly written out of need for the information between their covers. Or that I don't just take a flyer on some titles.
Anyway, isn't it fun to scope out other people's lists and ratings? It tells you so much about them, and you pick up on so many cool authors and books you might never otherwise hear about.
I love Goodreads.
