Feeling Plum by Beth Williamson
Hey y’all, Beth Williamson here. I’m feeling mighty plum right about now!
In case you hadn’t heard the news, my Plum Creek series (http://www.bethwilliamson.com/series/plum-creek/) is returning to bookshelves starting in February. This trilogy was originally published with Kensington since 2009/2010 but I got my rights back and decided to put them out there again. It’s a trilogy set in Reconstruction era Colorado. These are for sure erotic historical romance with lots of smexy scenes but also deep, wrenching emotions and an incredibly satisfying HEA. I’m excited to bring these back!
The trilogy begins with book 1, THE EDUCATION OF MADELINE. I wrote Madeline to be a tall, curvy, thirty-two year old spinster in Reconstruction era Colorado, 1872. She’s rich, hated because of her wealth, and needs to learn how to experience life.
The hero, Teague, is a big man with a dark past who enters Madeline’s life. She grabs hold of the opportunity with both hands and they begin an adventure together, with many twists, turns, and unseen dangers.
I loved Madeline – she embodied what I struggled with as a curvy woman with low self-confidence. She discovers she’s fierce, courageous, and unwilling to settle for what the world has planned for her.
I’m happy to say THE EDUCATION OF MADELINE released on February 27 in both ebook and print. The cover is beautiful and I can’t for y’all to meet Madeline and Teague. Book 2, THE REDEMPTION OF MICAH, releases in April. Followed by the third book, THE SALVATION OF SARAH (http://www.bethwilliamson.com/books/the-salvation-of-sarah/) in late May. Each book has a new cover, is freshly edited and ready to find a whole new group of readers. If you read the original years ago, the stories themselves haven’t changed.

First impressions can be deceiving by Paty Jager

He studied the woman. She had the notebook of songs on her table. Her intense gaze on the book and wrinkled forehead gave her an air of frustration.
“Who is she?” He sat and nodded to the woman.
“Kitty Baxter. She helps with the horses at Marcella Dunn’s stables.” Julie nodded to someone at the bar.
“She’s on the slow side,” Barry added.
Zach turned his attention to his brother-in-law. “What do you mean?”
“Cleaning stalls for Marcella is about the only thing besides singing that she seems capable of doing.”
He didn’t like the insinuation Barry was making about the woman.
The waitress returned with their drinks. Zach took a sip of his and watched the woman get more flustered as she flipped through the pages in the notebook.
The man on the stage didn’t seem to know anything about singing on key. “She a good singer?” He tipped his head toward Kitty.
“Yeah. Most of the people come here on Thursdays just to hear her sing.” Julie sipped her drink.
His mind made up, he walked over to the woman. “Mind if I share the notebook with you?”
Her head jerked up. The sight of her big violet eyes struck him like a jolt of electricity.
“I can’t find the song I want to sing,” she said, shoving the book across the table toward him.
“What song did you want? I’ll look for it while I look for the one I want to sing.” He sat down and studied the book to keep from staring at her pretty face.
“Sunshine on my Shoulders.” She sighed after saying the tune.
“That’s one of my favorites.” He ran his finger down the page. “Here it is. Number fifty-seven.”
She picked up the glass of beer on the table and downed it. “Thank you.”
He smiled at the relief lighting her eyes. “If you can sing better than this guy, I’m glad to help.”
Her laughter was soft and husky. “Floyd thinks of himself as a rock star.” She watched as the tall stocky man tipped his head back and belted out an off-key long note.
“Since I was looking for the same song, do you mind if I sing it with you? It would spare the bar having to hear the song twice.” He scanned her heart-shaped face and noted a sprinkling of light freckles across her nose and the apples of her cheeks.
“Can you carry a tune?” she asked, tilting her head slightly and narrowing her eyes.
“I was in my college’s glee club.”
At the word college, he saw her physically shift away from him.
“How about it? May I join you?” He stood and waved her to the stage.
She stood, watching him with a trace of fear.
“I promise I won’t upstage you.”
A soft laugh filtered to him through the din of voices, shuffling chairs, and clinking glasses.
“Come on, Professor. Let’s sing.” She stood and walked over to the stage. Her hips swayed just enough to catch his gaze. She picked up both microphones sitting on the table by the man running the karaoke machine. “Number fifty-seven,” she said to the man and handed Zach one of the microphones.
Their fingers touched, and he could of swore he saw her jump as his blood pressure spiked.
“Woo, Zach!” Julie shouted.
He raised the microphone in a toast toward his sister and took a spot where he could see the monitor. It had been years since he’d heard or sang this song. As he positioned himself, Kitty stepped to the far side of the stage and waited.
The distance between them felt like an ocean.
The music started. He glanced over at Kitty. Her eyes closed and her mouth opened. A beautiful alto voice soared with the music. She sang with such feeling, he enjoyed watching her. He joined her at the chorus.
Her eyes popped open at the sound of his voice. Zach slowly walked over to where she stood. He gazed into her eyes and saw a confident woman as her voice melded with his and she took each note to a deeper nuance.
Kitty’s heart soared as she blended her voice with the man’s. He had a beautiful baritone. She stared into his eyes. The warmth and acceptance she saw in their depths started her belly quivering. She’d avoided men, except for two disastrous dates, ever since school and the bullies that had harassed her for being unable to read and having ratty clothes. She’d been an easy target. But she’d shown everyone. She’d run off at fourteen and found a place to live, and she enjoyed the work she did.
The glint of challenge in the man’s eyes had her embellishing more at the end. She held onto the note and finished with a flourish. The music stopped, and she peered into his eyes.
A roar of voices and thundering applause, reminded her she stood on a stage staring into a stranger’s eyes.
She ran off the stage, dropping the microphone on the table. On her way past her table, she snagged her jacket, before running out the back door of the Sidewinder. She didn’t catch her breath or stop her momentum until she sat behind the wheel of her 1960 Ford pickup. Her heart raced, not from her hurried departure, but from the memory of the man’s eyes.
He’s gone to college. He won’t want a woman who can’t read. Her good sense smacked her upside the head, and she shoved the key into the ignition. She knew how he’d treat her if he knew she hadn’t finished school. Just like all the foster parents and kids she’d lived with over the years. Like she was dim-witted.

Despite the fluffy title, ARMY RANGER WITH BENEFITS is a seriously romantic and feel-good read you shouldn’t miss!
How do I love thee…let me count the ways:
1. Vince is utterly gorgeous and easy-going. He’s maybe the first hero I’ve read who didn’t have to be growly and bad-tempered to maintain his sexiness. He’s so sweet and thoughtful, and (gasp!) he seems to be always smiling. Love the way he’s supportive of his brother Dom and rallies around him when he (Dom) needed him, even when said brother is being a grouchy bear.
2. Emma is just the right touch of funny and quirky and confused woman who’s torn between two guys, even as she’s haunted by her past. Totally love her, especially the scene where she’s drunk. Couldn’t believe the words that came out of her mouth, and yet, she’s truly adorable there.
3. Vince and Emma are hot together, and they have this easy chemistry between them that it’s not hard to imagine them falling for each other even as they fake their way through a relationship. They have got to be my favorite couple of 2018! I know it’s early in the year, but I don’t see them being dethroned any time soon. LOL
4. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, so I went into this with high expectations and I’m happy to report the author exceeded every one of them.
5. Seriously, I love this author’s voice. She makes reading this book effortless, totally sweeping me away and immersing me into the story. She imbues it with a magical vibe and creates such unforgettable and lovely characters that I couldn’t get enough of them even after I reached the end.
6. Also love the secondary characters–Emma’s super supportive mom, and funny, extrovert best friend Macy. I also love that Stephan is a regular good guy who now had to suffer from missed opportunities. There’s a lesson there somewhere, I think.
I will definitely be looking forward to Leo’s story and of course, I want to know what’s up with Dom and his doctor. *wink* I envision a great story there, one of the enemies-to-lovers kind and another of my favorite tropes. And I would be sorely disappointed if the next book didn’t include cameos of Vince and Emma. Just sayin’.

The Writing Life
I hope everyone is having a great New Year.
I thought I’d share a little bit today about my writing life.
For about the last year, I’ve been concentrating on trying to get more books written to get more books out. I’m going to call it a 75% success rate.
I’m now writing for two small presses and trying to break into New York. My self-publishing has fallen to the side, because its hard to do everything. And I realized I can’t do everything.
But I have a cowboy book that was making the rounds everywhere, but wasn’t being sold. I finally took the book, gave it to an editor and copy editor and let them have at it. I’m happy to say Billionaire Cowboy’s Conquest looks to be released around the end of March.
I’ll have my cover in February and I’ll be happy share it with this group.
As for my two small presses, The Wild Rose Press and Trifecta Publishing house. I will have one book coming out with The Wild Rose Press later this year called Highland Dom Book 1 in the McMillan Passion series.
From Trifecta Publishing House in February 19th Master Cole releases (cover down below), in June: Her Desert Prince Book 1 in the Desert Destiny Series, and in December: Her Desert Doctor Book 2 in the Desert Destiny Series.
I am still trying to break into NY publishing, I have 3 chapters of a book with a NY publisher now, waiting to hear if they want the rest of the book.
In the line up for the rest of the year, I have to write book 2 in the McMillan Passion series, Book 3 & 4 in the Desert Destiny Series. And maybe just maybe I’ll be able to start another series that is 9 books long, it all depends on how the rest of the year goes.
