Speed Bumps

Speed-BumpSpeed bumps come in all shapes and sizes. Some are so wide and smooth that my car simply rolls over them while giving passengers a momentary thrill. Othersseem to require slamming on the brakes and creeping over at two miles per hour to keep from giving passengers whip lash or leaving the car’s oil pan lying in the street.

Speed bumps in life also fall into various extremes as we journey toward our dreams. For instance, considermy dream of being traditionally published with a fiction manuscript...

The Great Adventure

im-going-on-an-adventureOver Christmas break, I went to see the latest Hobbit installment in the theater with my little guy and my dad. Of course, the night before we met to watch the first movie so we were up to date on everything that had happened and were emotionally invested in what would unfold on the big screen. (So many themes and messages packed into a fantastic story!)

This time around I was struck by the image of Bilbo Baggins sitting on a bench in front of his home smoking a pipe. He was comfortably stuck...

Looking Ahead to a New Year

happy_new_year_2014jpgAs the clock ticks down on the end of another year, I’m once again looking back over the past months and dreaming about the future. In 2013, I wanted to focus on family relationships, a healthy lifestyle, debt reduction and a balanced budget, and a bunch of writing goals. Overall, I’ve made good progress on balancing family, health, home, and our finances. Whew! Not to mention I feel like I have strategies in place to keep these parts of my life going strong.

And when it came to writing, my goa...

The Emotional Stages of Writing a Book

Writing a book is quite an emotional journey. Don’t believe me? Watch this author’s video about the stages a writer goes through when writing a book. (And it doesn’t even include the highs and lows we put our characters through!)

This is what I do by choice during my free time.Is it worth it? You bet. (Even the editing … because there’s always another idea waiting around the corner.)

Have a super fun Friday!

Creation Declares – God’s Fingerprints (Part Two)

baby hand in parent palmAll year I’ve been making the case that all of creation bears the fingerprints of the Creator. Our theme verse for the year has been,”For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans1:20NIV)

Creation declares the glory of God.

But the ultimate evidence of God’s fingerprints on creation happened when His Son came as a baby and lived among...

Book Domino Chain World Record

With my love of books and libraries, I enjoyed seeing this video about an event set up to promote a summer reading program at the Seattle Public Library. I have to admit that if I was one of the organizers, I would have been soooo tempted to read a little bit of every book I set up … or cleaned up.

So many books, so little time.

Have a super fun Friday!

Tools For The Journey – The Juggling Act

Juggling-BallsIf I had to guess, I’d say that your life is a little bit like mine as you balance multiple responsibilities while trying not to neglect your health, family, or friends. There are times that the journey of life feels more like a juggling act!

I recently did a guest blog at Seriously Write (posted December 10, 2013) on this very idea of juggling life and the pursuit of dreams. As we journey through life, there are a few tips for successful juggling that also apply to everyday responsibilities.

Creation Declares – God’s Fingerprints (Part One)

20131031-171019.jpgBack in January, we began a journey that started with the words “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1 NIV) From start to finish, there have been countless examples of the Intelligent Designer who left His divine fingerprints for us to see.

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Romans1:20NIV)
