Friendship, Will You Die for Your Friends?

They grew up together and became friends at an early age. Their fathers were great examples of how friendship prevailed when one became the king and the others his advisers.

It was their friendship and youthful audacity that played a major role in their predicament. They were so used to doing everything together, of being in agreement, that it never occurred to Ox, Lion or Eagle to oppose Human’s answer he gave to his father, the king. They stood by Human. Without thinking it through, they answered on impulse, stating their loyalty to their friend. They didn’t have a different answer; to them their friendship was the highest priority.

3 Questions about Friendship

The Four Faces gladly replied to the three questions asked regarding their friendship.

Question 1

How did the journey affect your friendship?

Human: Our friendship had a strong foundation and during our travels through the kingdom, searching for the answer, we became closer. We also learned new things about each other.  As successor to the throne, I am thankful; I’m surrounded by friends who are loyal to the crown.

Lion grunted, Ox snorted and Eagle looked down his beak in agreement to what Human said.

Question 2

You were away from home for about a year. What did your adventures teach you about friendship?

Human: I realized that it is safe to be vulnerable when you are among friends.

Ox: When Eagle went through the door, and Madison the Mole didn’t allow him to come back, I realized how much I would miss losing one of my friends.

Lion: The contest is what made me realize that each of us have our own strengths and weakness.  Together we make a formidable team. Synergy is the word I’m looking for… one plus one becomes 11 not two.

Eagle: Yes, why walk if you can fly. I learnt that even enemies can become friends. I also realized that friendship is a precious treasure that should be protected and taken care of.

Question 3

Would you have been able to complete the journey if you weren’t friends?

The Four Faces in unison: Absolutely not!

They left the palace as Friends…

They left on the journey with assurance of support and safety from each other; they knew in all the kingdoms, they could trust each other. Friendship was the foundation of their love for each other: they cared for each other, they would protect each other, and they knew they would miss the companionship when apart for long periods of time.

This would form the basis on which the council would operate when Human succeeded his father as king. But first they had to find the answer to the king’s question

During the journey their friendship was sorely tested. Deception’s only purpose was to ruin their friendship; if it could succeed, the kingdom’s future would be very bleak, and the repercussions would be seen in years to come.

The Four Faces endured fun, hardship, and together the greatest adventure in their lives. Circumstances drove them in different directions, situations attempted in keeping them apart. Together they returned to the kingdom.

Was their friendship strong enough to survive kingship? Only time would tell.

Jesus and Friends

In the Old Testament only Abraham and Moses were called friends of God. In the New Testament, Jesus extended the invitation to all believers.

In John 15:12-17 Jesus commanded the disciples, and all mankind, to love one another the way Jesus loved you. He continued stating in verse 13 that there was no greater love than giving your life for your friends.

Jesus continued by calling his disciples his friends (John 15), they were no longer servants. What was the difference between servant-hood and friendship? Servants obeyed their master’s instructions and didn’t know what their master was doing. Friends shared with each other. Jesus confirmed their friendship by telling them that everything that he had heard from his Father, he had shared with them. He continued by teaching them that he had chosen them; it wasn’t the other way around. They were commissioned to go out into the world and to bear fruit.

Was this the type of friendship The Four Faces had? What were they prepared to share and do for each other?

Who do you call your friends?

Is your spouse your friend?

Are you friends with Jesus?

I believe God’s Promises

Hebrews 11 tells us that faith is the confidence we have that what we hope for will actually happen.

Hebrews 11 tells us of so many people who faith in the promises of God: Abraham, Sarah, Daniel, Adam, to mention a few. They believed that what God promised, would happen.

Many died without receiving the full promise, but they still believed.

Therefore, choose to believe that what God promised will come into fulfilment.

What are God’s promises to you personally?

Write down these promises and hold onto them.

New Year Resolutions Do or Don’t?

Many people begin the New Year with expectations of achieving their dreams, and even the impossible.

More often than not, New Year resolutions are made to be broken. You begin your year with great determination to carry out these resolutions, only to slow down; by the middle of the year the resolutions have been completely forgotten. When it is too late, you are reminded of the forgotten resolutions. You decide that next year will be different, but is it?

Why do you make these New Year resolutions?

Should you make them? Wouldn’t you be better off not making New Year’s resolutions at all?

Perhaps the answer lies in the reason for the resolutions. Are your resolutions for the New Year based on the things you didn’t accomplish the previous year? If so, are you wasting your time? On 31 December the current year ends and on 1 January the next year begins. It is a new and a different year. It is not a year to repeat the previous year’s mistakes; its purpose is not to dwell in the leftovers of the previous year.

It is a year with new beginnings, a journey stretching out ahead of you. It is not the path of the past.

What is a resolution?

The word resolution means you made a firm decision, in other words you have decided unquestionably and with certainty, to do something OR NOT to do something.

Why not look back at the previous year and decide not to make the same mistakes? That is a resolution in itself. Perhaps you should have a stop-doing-list for 2014 instead of a to-do list? What are the time wasters you have on your to-do list that would free-up your time for more important and relevant items? Perhaps that is the first resolution for the New Year to stop doing the unnecessary. Alternatively, delegate the tasks that are taking up time, tasks that could be done by somebody else. This will free-up your calendar automatically for the things you deem important.

What should your resolutions be based on?

Resolutions should be for the future, for the dreams and goals you want to accomplish, not the tasks you didn’t have time for the previous year. There is a difference.  What are you setting out to do this year?

It is time to transform your dreams into reality. Take hold of your dream, break it down into do-able tasks or goals and base your New Year resolutions on that. You now have a purpose, a mission to fulfil your dream.

Have a great 2014 where every step you take will bring you closer to fulfilling your dreams and accomplishing your New Year resolutions.

The Four Faces and their New Year Resolutions

The Four Faces were asked what their New Year Resolutions were.

Human - The Four FacesHuman: “Based on this article I would say my New Year resolution is to Stop Doing Time Wasters.

Ox - The Four Faces

Ox: “I agree with Human and will stop doing the unnecessary and Do Something New.

Eagle - The Four FacesEagle: “I want to add to the list of resolutions to Journal and Write daily.”

Lion - The Four FacesLion: ”The time I will have available from not wasting time, I want to Read More.”

Anointing or Character Which Should be First?

There is the rhetorical question, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” Is there a difference in what comes first, anointing or character?

In The Four Faces you could say Human had the anointing, but did he have the character? He was the king’s son, the heir to the throne, and the chosen successor. In the Old Testament kings and prophets were anointed when called. In the New Testament every believer is anointed by the Holy Spirit for your specific calling. Sometimes it takes years before you walk in your calling, other times it is much sooner.

Character comes with trials and tribulations, living life, hardships, circumstances and how you react to it.  Romans 5:1-5 tells us trials lead to patience and patience to character; character leads to hope in Christ.

Therefore, since we have been declared righteous by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of God’s glory. Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance, character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:1-5 NET)

Is there a difference in having character first or having the anointing first?

Anointing doesn’t automatically guarantee character.

Take Human for example. The anointing was there. He was the successor to the throne; the legitimate heir and son of the king. His father, the ruling king, was a wise king. He knew that his son would not automatically be a good king because he was entitled to the throne. Entitlement wasn’t what made a good king; it was the king’s character. Being king was a calling with great responsibility; your decisions changed, influenced and affected the lives of every individual in your realm; it even affected nations beyond the borders of your kingdom.

When the king asked Human what is his purpose, he was testing his son’s character. Did his son know why he was created? The answer would also reveal to the king to what extent his son was fit to be the next king. Did his son have the necessary character to rule in peace, in truth, to be just and to rule with integrity?

Human’s answer to the king’s question, and the subsequent response of his three friends – Eagle, Ox, and Lion – displayed that the anointing was there but the character was not. Therefore the Four Faces were sent on a journey through the kingdom to discover the answer to the question. The purpose was not only to discover the answer but to form their characters; to prepare and enable them for their calling and purpose in life.

Character is portrayed especially in your reaction during trials and tribulations, the way you handle a situation, your emotional response, your ability to overcome, and whether you endure with worship or in self-pity.

With character the anointing automatically follows, but with anointing there is not automatically character.

Which do you prefer to have first, character or anointing?

God Speaks Study Bible color-codes the different ways God speaks!

The God Speaks Study Bible is a powerful tool to equip yourself and others in the different ways God speaks. In 1901, Louis Klosph offered the readers a Bible where the words of Jesus Christ were printed in red.  This changed the way we read the Bible. When we read Jesus’ words in red, we read it differently, with an attentive knowing and confirmation that these are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

How much more if we could read all the words of God in such a way?

In 2013, Dr. Richard Mull made this possible through the God Speaks Study Bible. He used color coding to highlight every passage in the Bible where God speaks and when God spoke to a person. The color coding also demonstrates the different ways that God speaks in the Bible.

How Does The Color Coding Work?

God speaks to us in different ways. This is illustrated by the color coding of the God Speaks Bible:

Purple is used when God speaks directly in the First Person. The Bible begins with the words of God the Father. The Old Testament is filled with His words.
Green is used when a passage is talking about God speaking.
Brown is used when man is speaking on God’s behalf in the Third Person.
Blue is used when Angels are speaking on God’s behalf. God also speaks through dreams and visions. Daniel, Joseph, the prophets are all examples of people who heard God through dreams and / or visions.
Gold is used for every miracle and act of God in Scripture.
Jesus Christ’s words in the New Testament are written in red.

Who God Speaks To

We don’t always realize it but God speaks to us on a regular basis and in different ways. When you read the Bible, you see that God speaks to all of us from a king, a prophet, to ordinary men such as a shepherd or a baker.

In the God Speaks Bible, there is a section at the beginning of each book of the Bible. This section is dedicated to all the people God had spoken to in that specific Bible book and the specific Scripture reference. In Genesis, for example, God spoke to 26 different people.

Changing Statistics

Statistics show that 10% of people have never heard God speak. Over 50% church attenders say they have never heard God speak to them and 25% say they heard God speak once or at most a few times in their lives. (God Speaks Study Bible video)

Can the God Speaks Study Bible change these statistics?

The God Speaks Study Bible is first and foremost the Word of God. It is also an excellent tool to create that awareness in us that God speaks to us. This is the uniqueness of the God Speaks Study Bible. When you open the God Speaks Study Bible, you can see instantaneously when, where, and how God is speaking.  The color coding demonstrates to us the different ways God speaks to us. It enhances the fact that God speaks to everyone.

God Speaks Bible page imageDr. Richard Mull shared that when he began studying the different ways God spoke to us, there were so many passages in the Bible where God spoke, that it was easier to color code these passages in the Bible than to copy these passages.

God is still speaking to us today. We only need to become aware and then live in the expectancy to hear Him.

This is the purpose of the God Speaks Bible, “To equip the world to hear God’s voice.”

Take The Bible With You

God Speaks Bible resourcesThe availability of the God Speaks Bible in multiple platforms is time saver and user-friendly. The printed format is ideal for reading at your desk or table or sitting in your favourite chair. The printed format is available in hardcover, leather like, and genuine leather but not in paperback.

If your preference is to read your Bible on a tablet, the digital format of God Speaks Bible can be purchased from your favourite suppliers such as (but not limited to) Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Your new God Speaks Bible fits in your pocket on your smartphone (iPhone or Android formats), making it easily available on the spur of the moment.

Translation Availability

The initial printed edition of the God Speaks Study Bible was launched in the New King James Version (KNJV) and the New International Version (NIV). There are plans in the near future to make the God Speaks Study Bible available in other translations, the King James Version (KJ), the English Standard Version (ESV), and the New Living Translation (NLT).

The digital format, however, is available locally and internationally in your favourite version.

The God Speaks Study Bible is not another translation but an enhancement with colorizing. Therefore, it is much quicker and easier to publish the Bible in different translations and languages, than a new Bible translation would have been.

Why Do I Like The GOD SPEAKS BIBLE?

I can instantly see when God is speaking.
Different colors demonstrates at a glance the different ways God speaks:
God Himself is speaking
About what God said
Messengers, or dreams, or visions
Jesus Christ’s words
Miracles and acts of God
Speaking on God’s behalf

The section at the beginning of each book gives a list of the different people God speaks to.
It confirms to me that God speaks to all of us.
It awakens the desire to hear God’s voice more often.
It is a resourceful and equipping tool to use for Bible Study.
Easy availability in different formats, making it easy to have the Bible with you at all times.
Flexibility of different editions.
It allows me to read the Bible in the translation I prefer.

I recommend the God Speaks Study Bible to all believers, to all of us, who want to hear God’s voice in all the different ways He speaks to us.

Introducing God Speaks Bible

Colorful Voice of God

“You have one opportunity to prove to me God Speaks to us,” the chairman said. “On the table are three different objects you can choose from. These objects are to be used with your Bible. We will convene here, in the boardroom, on Monday morning. Each of you will have 10 minutes to convince me that God speaks. The meeting was adjourned.

John and Peter rushed to the table. John grabbed the laptop, and Peter grabbed the Bible software. Jeremiah was left with a set of colored pens.

The three had a busy weekend with little sleep….and it was Monday. Once again they were sitting around the boardroom table. The chairman looked across the table at the three candidates: “John, you may begin. Your ten minutes starts now. Confidently John stood up and began his presentation using the laptop to present a beautifully, organized slideshow. The chairman clapped his hands after the presentation, and John sat down, satisfied.

“Peter, you are next.” Peter stood up, and if possible, he was more confident than John. The chairman also clapped his hands when Peter finished his presentation.

“Jeremiah, it is your turn.” When Jeremiah stood up, the other two sniggered when they saw what he had in his hands…colored pens and his Bible.

“Sir,” Jeremiah addressed the chairman, “May I ask my colleagues some questions during my presentation?” Surprised and intrigued the chairman agreed.

Jeremiah cleared his throat, and said, “I know God speaks to us. The question I needed to answer was how. How do I prove it? This weekend was probably the greatest adventure of my life. God spoke to me in a new and empowering way. I would like to show you today how God is speaking to you and me, every time we open our Bibles.

“John, do you want to hear God’s voice?”

“Of course,” John replied.

“What about seeing when God is speaking to us?”

“What,” John asked surprised. “God speaks in different ways to us every day, wherever we are. The Bible is full of His words,” Jeremiah explained, opening his Bible. His Bible had various colored markings on the pages. John and Peter burst out laughing.

Jeremiah smiled, opening his Bible to Luke 18 verses 16 and 17. “The Bible tells us that we should receive the kingdom of God like a child.”

“What does the verse have to do with God speaking to us, and us hearing God’s voice,” the chairman asked.

“The Bible verse was very relevant to me, because the tools I had in my hand were the tools of a child…coloring pens.” Jeremiah replied. “The words are the words Jesus Christ spoke. I marked all His words with the color red.”

“So what,” Peter said sarcastically. “There are many Bibles with Jesus’ words marked in red.”

“True,” Jeremiah continued calmly. “These words in red prove that Jesus speaks to us. Jeremiah turned to the Old Testament. “I have chosen the color of royalty, purple, to mark where God speaks directly in first person,” he continued. “God also speaks to us through visions, dreams and angels. Those words I marked with blue. When somebody speaks on God’s behalf in the third person, I marked the words with the color brown, and when a passage refers to God speaking, I marked it withgreen. God also speaks to us through His miracles. I have chosen the color gold for all God’s miracles and different acts of God.”

The chairman couldn’t contain the excitement anymore. “In other words, this written proof shows us, not only that God speaks to us, but how much He speaks to us. Jeremiah, you have truly proven that God speaks to us. I can see it with my own eyes. You have created a God Speaks Bible. We need to share this. ”

“What about when you don’t have your Bible with you,” Peter asked. Jeremiah smiled,

“We develop an app for tablets and phones for people to use.”

The alarm went off, waking Jeremiah from his dream. “What a strange dream,” Jeremiah thought getting out of the bed. “It would be wonderful to have such a Bible. I wonder if my dream can come true.” Jeremiah stepped on something. He looked down. “What is a purple pen doing on the floor?”

Want to help promote the reading of God’s Word and encourage people to learn how to hear God’s voice? Imagine a color coded study Bible and multi-media application highlighting when God speaks to you. Operation Light Force (OLF) is a ministry devoted to equipping people to do what Jesus did, setting captives free, healing and preaching. Richard Mull is the President and Founder of OLF and the General Editor of the God Speaks Bible and many other books and was featured on TV and media. Help us spread the word.
