Stonehenge and Music
Ever heard of "ringing rocks" or lithophones? Here's a fascinating article about the musical properties of the bluestones of Wales, the source for those that form Stonehenge.

Doing the Impossible
If you do not think that God can do the impossible, you should read Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc by Mark Twain. "Since the writing of human history began, Joan of Arc is the only person, of either sex, who has ever held supreme command of the military forces of a nation at the age of seventeen." ~Louis Kossuth
She certainly did not put herself in that office.
Secondly, as Samuel Clemens tells us, her biography is unique, because it is the only story of a human life which comes to us under oath, direct from the witness-stand of the Great Trial of 1431 and the trial of rehabilitation 25 years later. The transcripts of these trials are still preserved in the National Archives of France.

Instrument of War
The very powerful two-part film Instrument of War tells the history of the bagpipes in wartime. There are two parts: Call to the Blood and Ladies from Hell. The link below gives just a taste of what the film covers. Although the youtube excerpt is very brief, it is inspiring and moving. The images and history documented in this film gave me inspiration to write The Piper's Story.

Signings and Radio Interview
If you know anyone in College Station who might like to read The Piper's Story, please tell them about my book signing on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1:00 at Hastings Books on Texas Ave.
I am going to pre-record an interview about writing the book on KPVU 93.1 FM to air later (don't know when yet, but I'll let you know when I do). The pre-recording is with Amparo Navarrete the day after Labor Day.
Then, the kind Daughters of the King at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Brenham have organized a book signing on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5:00. If you live in or around Brenham, please come. They're having food and wine at the reception--can't beat that!

Giant Cloud Formation and Cymatics
Cymatics, or the study of wave phenomena, is in the news because of a giant cloud formation circling Saturn. The article at the link below is very interesting. The author proposes an explanation for the hexagonal formation of the clouds. The ability of sound to influence and shape matter is part of the Music and Bagels Chapter in The Piper's Story. Check out this article!

Book Club @ The Bookworm Shop in Katy
On Thursday, July 18, I met with the Book Club @ The Bookworm Shop in Katy. My good friend Janis Rudd invited me. They chose to read The Piper's Story for their July book, based on Janis' recommendation. We chatted for about two hours, and the time flew by! They asked so many insightful questions about the characters, the setting in the Pacific Northwest, my method of writing, and the major themes in the book, such as the power of music and the conflict between good and evil.
I learned from Leola about WWII piper Bill Millin who played his pipes on the beach during the D-Day assault, to raise the morale of the troops. The Germans didn't shoot at him because they thought he was crazy! There are so many fascinating stories from WWII.
Thanks to all in the book club; I enjoyed my time with you thoroughly!
Best Wishes,
Wendy

Book Launch Party @ Murder by the Book
I had a great book launch party on April 20, at Murder by the Book in Houston. About twenty people came out, and I talked almost 30 minutes about the history of The Piper's Story, and how it came to be a book. Many of my friends and colleagues from Opera in the Heights came. We had white wine and sparkling mineral water, and lots of good conversation. Many thanks to all who came, and especially to McKenna Jordan and all the staff at Murder by the Book!
