Help my friend Maddie raise money for TSWGO!

In August, shortly after Leakycon, I’m shaving my friend Maddie’s head. In the weeks leading to August, Maddie is raising money for This Star Won’t Go Out, an charity that helps families who have a child with cancer that was founded in the memory of our dear friend Esther.

Maddie’s wanted to shave her head for ages, and she’ll be doing it regardless of what we earn, but this is a great chance to give to an amazing organization. She’ll be donating her hair as well. I hope you guys consider giving!

I’m making little crocheted star plushies for the campaign, if you want one of those!

Click here (or the picture above) to donate.

audreybenjaminsen:

I’m happy to share this recently commissioned portrait of Miss. Esther Earl!

It was a pleasure working with her parents on this special gift for John Green, and I’m honored to help keep her star burning! :)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Esther’s story, as well as being an exceptional young lady in her own right, she was also a huge inspiration for John Green’s The Fault in out Stars.

If you are interested, please check out the "This Star Wont Go Out Foundation", a non-profit foundation headed by Esther’s parents, Lori and Wayne. They continue to serve families with children diagnosed with life-threatening cancer in Esther’s honor. There you can read more about her life and legacy!

We love Esther!

Wishing everyone the best this spring!

speakintosilence:

This was in with my letter from Sara for one of the This Star Won’t Go Out fundraiser perks. And seriously, you’d think she knew me personally. I love it so much and am going to frame it and hang it up. So great of her to include this with such a wonderful letter. Esther had some great friends. Although I wish I too could have known her, I’m glad I got to hear her story and help any way I can.

We’re glad you love your perk, and thanks for donating to our indiegogo!

This Star Won't Go Out

:

At the recommendation of my hospital friend, I’ve been reading This Star Won’t Go Out. I have way too much to say about it but I will say this for now until I can sit down and think and write more. Do you know how stars, the ones that we see at night, are still shining during the day but we can’t see them because of the sun? That’s how I feel right now. I don’t know if that makes sense. But that’s how I feel. Maybe I’ll expand on that thought later.

Lovely thoughts <3

“The measure of a friendship is not its physicality but its significance. Good friendships, online or off, urge us toward empathy; they give us comfort and also pull us out of the prisons of our selves.”
