Update
Update on my writing journey
Hello dear followers, readers, writers, and members,
I have been away for far too long. There was a time when I was always on Goodreads. Then I discovered this amazing arts journal called Open:Journal of Arts and Letters and I am now an associate editor.
My journey has been a long one. I'm enjoying every moment.
New Writers
The most wonderful thing about reading is finding new writers. I was saying to my partner the other day that I need to find a new writer. When I was feeling like this I used to walk into Waterstones a day or two later and there was the book I needed to read on the bookshelf, waiting for me. Well, I am out of the habit of visiting bookshops due mainly to Lockdown and also to attempting, once again, to make it as a paid writer, but hey, I said it anyway, and there the book was a couple of days later on my welcome mat. What was it? Jeff Streeby's book Wile: Sketches from Nature.
I had forgotten that I was updating my new serial horror sci-fi romance on here. I got up in the middle of the night in April, an thought, I have to do something and so I started writing this serial. If you enjoy sci-fi then you may enjoy the work. It is free and regularly updated in my feed here.
I am still learning, after fifty four years on the planet, in April, and I am currently learning SEO. The formatting tips to the right of your blog on Goodreads help you to enjoy more user friendly experiences. Today, I am trying out the bold text formatting. I also read just this morning that bold text vis-à-vis headings encourages better SEO.
I don't understand people who have a fixed mindset. We have discovered in recent decades that there is such a thing as neuro-plasticity, and that we can all grow and change. Like my garden, which continues to grow and improve, so do I.
My internship with Open:Journal of Arts and Letters has taught me a great deal; just like my years spend gardening. I have always thought how like raising children gardening is. We tend to defer to experts in many fields, and this is a good thing; especially when it comes to understanding patterns and the discipline of epidemiology.
With regard to growth, you can consciously take part in your own personal growth by engaging with other people and by not imagining that other people don't have some wisdom that they have gleaned that they may be able to confer on you, if only you will participate without judgement. This morning, I thought I would talk to a neighbour who was sitting alone in a deck chair outside. I was disappointed that she said to me, "I don't pretend to be an expert and then offered me some, I suppose, veiled advice, when I remarked, "The trouble with plants grown from seeds is that you have to water them," saying, " I water the garden at night; it's cooler." Now my father taught me to do this when I was seven; however, for reasons I won't go into now, I have been watering in the early morning this year. Not because I do not know that it is better to water at night, but for my own reasons. Which just goes to prove the theory that when someone attempts to tell you what it is they do not do, they may well be about to do it ;-)
