So, at the beginning of this story, I hate Bee. She sounds like a Gold Digger. She's only caring about fashion, money she can spend, and I didn't like it. Each chapter starts with some witty 'Southern Fried' quote. Though at times the Southern speak got on my nerves, it was sweet of everyone to translate for Tess and the readers! The characters in this book are so full of personality. The story pulls you into town and the story and you're immersed in this Southern town.
The story flashes between 1935 where there was a bank robbery and murders, to the present. Being a small town, mostly all the same families still live in town. This is a twisting tale that has you guessing until the end. This is one of those nice long books. It's not over quick and it's not too long. It's nice to lose yourself for a few days in Goose Pimple Junction.
"She was so ugly when she was born, her mama used to borrow a baby to take to church on Sunday." The characters will have you giggling and scratching your head trying to help solve this 80 year old mystery. Well worth the read.Why no voting buttons? I found this book much more interesting than the first. I feel like it didn't drag on as much. It moved along greatly. My interest was held. The same witty Southern speak was in this book and I've come to find it endearing (and may have even caught myself saying some of the phrases to my friends!). It was nice seeing characters from the first book.
"I've had a taste of freedom, and let me tell you, Leonard Skynyrd, it tastes mighty good." Awesome quotes begin each chapter and some of the conversations will have you cracking up out loud.
"I'm so old I owe Jesus a nickel, and I know a thing or two."
I loved Lou in the first book. Seeing her and Martha Maye more was great. There's more than 1 mystery going on here and you're going to be held captivated by this book! It's well worth a read.
The song names will have you snorting and laughing. i.e- I Can't Be Number One In Your Life, Then Number Two On You.
