You can win a copy of today's new DVD, Underdogs, an animated story about soccer and magic featuring the voices of Ariana Grande, "Glee's" Matthew Morrison, Nicolas Hoult, and Bella Thorne. Morrison plays a soccer player who loves Laura (Grande). Hoult is Ace, the town bully. Jake beats Ace in a foosball game, but seven years later Ace returns as a soccer champ and Jake must beat him in a real soccer match with the help of some very small but very talented...

Redford and Fonda Reunite on Netflix

Jane Fonda and Robert Redford have great on-screen chemistry, as we've seen in two films, and can now look forward to in a third.

In Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park they play newlyweds living in a five story walk-up. Corey (Fonda), based on Simon's first wife, is free-spirited and spontaneous and Paul (Redford) is straightlaced and responsible.

Nell Scovell on Hollywood’s Obstacles to Women Directors

My friend Nell Scovell has a terrific article in the New York Times about Hollywood's poor record on women directors. While just about any male director with an indie at a festival is handed a superhero movie with a $100 million budget and, even more telling, male directors whose films lose money still get a chance to make another, women directors, even those with a record of...

More on the Original Ghostbusters — History, Cultural Change, and the Legacy of Harold Ramis

As some of the fanboys go nuts over the idea of a remake of "Ghostbusters" with an all-female lead cast, it's a good time to take another look at the original they consider a classic. At Fando, Kevin B. Lee reminds us that the 1984 film was pretty sexist by today's standards.

On Splitsider, Violet Ramis Stiel, he daughter of the late Harold Ramis, who co-wrote and starred in the original,

Duck Stamp Documentary: Million Dollar Duck

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ul6NQ...

"Million Dollar Duck," a documentary about the wacky (quacky?) world of the annual duck stamp competition looks terrific. It will be available for streaming next month. Don't confuse it with the Disney movie of the same name! ...

Director Roger Ross Williams on “Life, Animated”

Director Roger Ross Williams says that his new documentary, "Life, Animated," is "a very universal coming of age tale. It's really about growing up."

But it is a very specific story as well. It follows Owen Suskind, a young man with autism, as he graduates and leaves home and gets a job. Suskind, whose father wrote a best-selling book also called Life, Animated, used Disney films to help him understand how people express feelings. And this movie does...

Ghostbusters

I'm willing to believe them. I mean, sure, the original is a classic, mostly thanks to Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, and a new approach to action/paranormal comedy. But the reboot has the Mount Rushmore of movie comedy with SNL writer/cast members Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Kristen Wiig, plus America's sweetheart Melissa McCarthy. That's some serious comedy power there, and some serious dimples, too. It pays tribute to the original, opening with the Ray Parker, Jr. song and featuring...

Emmy Nominations 2016 — The Americans at Last!

The Emmy nominations are in! There has never been a tougher year as television is at the top of the list of all of the performing arts in both comedy and drama -- and diversity. It was a special pleasure to see the previously-overlooked "The Americans" finally get some recognition, and I was also especially glad to see Rami Malek from "Mr. Robot" and Keegan-Michael Key from "Key and Peele" (but where is Jordan Peele?) and several members of the O.J. Simpson drama on the list. "Veep," "Big Bang...
