Interview: “Moana” Animator Mark Henn
I love talking to Mark Henn, one of the greatest animation artists of all time. And I loved seeing his work in "Moana," Disney's new animated musical set in Polynesia. Henn worked on the animated tattoos sported by -- and interacting with -- Maui, a demi-god played by Dwayne Johnson.
How did the idea of animating Maui's tattoos come about?
First off, there's [co-directors] Ron Clements and John Musker. Most of their films have...

Tribute: Florence Henderson
We mourn the loss of singer/actress Florence Henderson, the iconic Carol, mother of three very lovely girls (the youngest one in curls), who married Mike Brady, father of three boys, and created television's most beloved blended family. Her shag haircut and unquenchable cheer were a highlight of the Brady home, which became a home for kids who watched it in reruns after school. It is still running, almost half a century since its premiere in 1969. ...

Manchester By the Sea
We think the hard question is why bad things happen to good people, but really the hardest question is this: when the hard things happen, how do we go on?
Writer/director Kenneth Lonergan likes to explore this question in films that are complex, layered, and respectful of the audience's intelligence and attention span. He lets the story bloom in its own time. He lets his characters lead messy lives, even after the story ends. He does not lay out all the backstory with voiceover narration...

White House Mannequin Challenge with Diana Ross, Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Gates, Robert De Niro, My Mom, and Me!
Yesterday, my family was at the White House to see my dad get the Medal of Freedom. Tracee Ellis Ross decided that while we were waiting before the ceremony, we should do a #mannequinchallenge. I was trying to film it, and ended up being in it myself! You can see Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Bill Gates, Robert De Niro, Diana Ross, Ellen DeGeneres, and my mother (with the glasses) and me (at the end)!
Check out the ceremony, especially the President's opening remarks, and enjoy his...

My Favorite Thanksgiving Movie: What’s Cooking?
I love this film, about four families celebrating Thanksgiving with all of the secrets, drama, longing for approval, and, yes, gratitude and love. The cast includes Julianna Margulies, Dennis Haysbert, Kyra Sedgwick, Alfre Woodard, Mercedes Ruehl, and Joyce Chen.

Behind the Scenes: Gilmore Girls are Back!
I'm so excited about the reboot of "The Gilmore Girls," coming to Netflix on November 25, 2016.

Here's what I wrote about the show in 2004:
This week's episode of "The Gilmore Girls" is the season finale, but for me it is the end of something much more important. It is the last time my daughter Rachel and I will watch the show...
