Got RUTHLESS GODS by @glitzandshadows while on tour last week and I thought “Oh I gotta take a pic of both them together” and then.

Last week, I got to meet Melany (@kingdomofyakim) in person....

Last week, I got to meet Melany (@kingdomofyakim) in person. Which would’ve been magical enough on it’s own, but she brought me THIS.

I’ve been pretty open about my struggles with writing in the hope that aspiring authors would see that it isn’t all social media perfect. But Melany came to the Florida @epicreads event armed with a decorated, annotated copy of SNOW LIKE ASHES along with art from THESE REBEL WAVES and bracelets to remind me that writing sometimes IS social media perfect.

Sometimes it’s beautiful in ways you didn’t know you needed.

Sometimes it makes you cry in a Barnes and Noble.

Sometimes you lose sight of the trees for the forest and forget that even when you struggle, other people still love your stories and world.

Melany, I will treasure this gift always. Not just the amazing work of art you made in this book — but the support and encouragement you’ve given me. You are wildly talented and I am honored, humbled, that you’ve chosen to use your talents for me. Thank you, love.

Someone missed me. But he’s very much “Oh I’m not sitting on your lap, you just happened to sit under my butt.” Because cats.

I wanted to thank everyone who came out on the @epicreads tour. This past week easily could have been stressful and exhausting — and it was, in some ways, but seeing all you lovelies each night, hearing your excitement, hanging out with the best book people, made it all worthwhile.

I started the tour with a panic attack, which seems to be my usual routine in recent years (

This is the second hotel on this tour that has me going “Damn, I’m not nearly fancy enough to be here.” Especially on the last tour stop, with most of my suitcase full of dirty clothes, and my brain operating at 30%, and my current outfit might be what I slept in or it might not be you never know.

Thank you for such a great tour kickoff event last night, @thatbookstorect!! Not only did I get to chat with amazing readers, I got to see a friend from wee baby author Sara’s past. Hayley and I met at a Backspace Writer’s Conference in…2008, I think? Or maybe even earlier?? Either way, we were both tiny children and now we’re grown up adult people and life is strange and wonderful.

Bringing it back from my birthday dinner a few weeks ago. I’m all smiles for the camera, but snapshots are easy to doctor. And that’s all social media is: a snapshot.

In reality, I was in such a depressive dip that I didn’t even want to go out. But I did anyway. Because f*ck depression.

I leave for the @epicreads tour today. I’ll be documenting the shenanigans and keeping it real about how exhausting it is to travel when your brain is sick.

But! I’m actually pretty excited. I adore getting to see all you dear readers. I get to meet @shelbymahurin and @renathedreamer and hang out with @kendareblake again. It’s going to be a truly delightful trip, and I keep telling myself that when dark things start to creep up on me.

For now, I’ve got a plane to catch. Who will I see at @thatbookstorect tonight?

And by “let’s do it” I mean I’ll be having panic attacks and coping with my anxiety on a minute-by-minute basis. Even with this picture, I forced myself to take it to capture even a small moment of confidence. But we’ve all survived our anxiety this far, haven’t we? And we’ll keep right on surviving it.
