Synopsis

A heartbroken girl. A fierce warrior. A hero in the making.

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now, the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee, raised by the Winterians’ general, Sir. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, and future king, Mather — she would do anything to help her kingdom rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself. Finally, she’s scaling towers, fighting enemy soldiers, and serving her kingdom just as she’s always dreamed she would. But the mission doesn’t go as planned, and Meira soon finds herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics – and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

My thoughts:

This book really reminded me of the Tinkerbell movies. Yes, Tinkerbell. It has the same concept of the four seasons dividing people up ( which I find really interesting!), but Snow like Ashes has its difference, too. For example , how Spring is being dictated by an insane man. Now thinking about how joyful and cheerful spring is thought to be, no one would ever expect this!

The ending was definitely much better than the beginning, so if you find it boring at first, just keep on reading! I have never read a book where so much different things are happening. Like how Meira is a refugee at first and then suddenly she is betrothed to a prince. I love plot twists in books and this plot twist blew me away. I want need the second book now!

Team Mather or Team Theron?

TEAM THERON ALL THE WAY!

Honestly, I do not like Mather. The part where he planned Meira to marry Theron and didn’t tell her, I wanted to punch him really hard. Everytime I read his name I read it as Mother not Mather. Is it just me?

Meira needs to end up with Theron. If she doesn’t I would probably end up in my room crying the whole day. He’s so sweet and gentle … unlike his father. His father is a coward, Im glad his so isn’t.

I really like Meira though. I actually see her as a girl who doesn’t need a man. She’s a strong and smart girl. I believe she will be a amazing queen one day!

If you are looking for a book which kinda has the Throne of Glass vibe, check this out. And how can you not resist the cover, its gorgeous. I want to see the next cover so badly!

Rating: 8/10

Whilst in Philly last week, I of course had to stop by the Eastern State Penitentiary.

Fate led me to find a certain name on one of the plaques.

"Theron King."

Hmmm…

4.25 STARS

There is a lot of hype surrounding this book right now, and let me assure you, it does not disappoint. Snow Like Ashes is a impressive first book in a new fantasy series (trilogy?), perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Falling Kingdoms
