Jack was employed into service for the East India Trading Company and was given command of the Wicked Wench. However, after he set free a cargo of slaves, his employer, Cutler Beckett, had Jack branded as a pirate and the Wench set aflame and sunk. After failing to rescue the Wench, Sparrow struck a bargain with the ghostly captain of the Flying Dutchman, Davy Jones, to resurrect his beloved vessel. Jones returned the ship to Jack in near perfect condition except for the permanently charred hull. This prompted Jack to rename her the Black Pearl

Jack Sparrow just got way cooler.

BABE

Yo, this is why Norrington said he’s the “worst pirate I’ve ever heard of,” and then Jack followed it up with, “But you have heard of me.”

Because Jack was branded a Pirate because he freed people rather than stealing anything. So Norrington, with his sense of duty, knows that Jack has been branded a criminal for actively not being a terrible human being. Norrington is torn between his duty as a naval officer and knowing that Jack is right.

He freed exactly 100 people, that’s why his debt to Jones was 100 souls. Davy has a sick sense of irony after all. Jack freed 100 souls and as a consequence his ship got sunk. Now his ship has been raised and as a consequence, he has to enslave 100 souls. This explains his reluctance to actually pay back the debt.

Crap, the latter portion of this franchise was a lot smarter than I thought it was…

There’s so much people don’t get about this franchise, the story is really more complex than just “funny drunken pirate meets hottie lady and hottie man with occasional visits from squid man”.

I think this is the reasons I find Dead Man’s Chest so FRUSTRATING (I’ve only seen it once, in theatre). The story was all there, it was just presented in an odd way, so even though there are parts of it I really like (mostly Elizabeth-related), it drives me bananas.

I love AT WORLD’S END, though.

Finally some Korrasami! Took me long enough, but when I saw that awesome swing dance pose I had to put those two in ;; (like dancing at Zhurricks wedding, haha) I hope I didn’t mess up their dresses

I haven't started Snow Like Ashes yet (so many books I didn't finish yet! But SLA is on my to-be-read list) but I'm sorta curious. Are there any diverse characters? Or, if there's none, will there be in the future books?

Yes! Well, definitely in books 2 & 3 – SLA itself is sadly rather lacking in diverse characters, but I promise, I make up for it!

I'm on the verge of breaking down. I used to love writing, but it's only making me more depressed, given then rejections and the silence. I feel like I don't know what publishers want anymore. Every time I write something, I'm told it's a tough sell and th

Every published writer has been where you are. That’s your reason not to give up.

Here’s another:

Don’t write for the publishing. Even when you get published there’s a lot of ups and downs in this business and unfortunately this isn’t the only time you’re going to feel frustrated. Write for you. Write a story that you love and characters that you feel you have to write about. Then when you query, write something else. Make it about the craft and the story and all of the things you love about it.

Make sure writing and books aren’t the only aspect of your life. Don’t get me wrong, they’re sometimes the only aspect of mine. But do other stuff. Have experiences, get inspired. Then write something different. And keep repeating the process. You’ll keep learning and keep improving and maybe publishing will happen. Either way, you’ll be happy with your writing.
