Chapter 5: Lonely Tear
Dulgin went off to settle things with the stable caretaker and then they walked into the Lady Luck Inn. The stone building was a two-story structure with a thatched roof and double paned windows. It was very plain outside; a simple sign dangled above the entryway. Inside was much the same; nothing adorned the walls, and a few small tables were set around a fireplace where sparkling embers faded. There stood a small registry station to the left of them, but no one was present. All was quiet, like the town. A dim light from behind the counter in a back room mingled with the darkness of the main lobby. They tried to peek over the human-sized wooden counter to see where the innkeeper might be. They had hoped their entrance had alerted someone, but not a soul stirred from the back room.“There is no one here, late night travelers,” said a creaky, unknown voice from behind them near the fireplace. “Come, sit by the fire while you wait for the innkeeper,” the midget voice spoke again. The fire suddenly erupted, illuminating the lodge enough to see more clearly. In the light, they recognized that the small creature was a Deep Gnome, an underground race with wood-brown skin, pure white hair, gray-blue eyes, and a plump nose, pitted and almost three inches in length. Smaller than the Ordakians, he was only three feet tall. He wore earth-toned clothing, leather boots adorned with strange writings, shiny gold bracers around its arms, and a small, thin, dark brown cape that was slung over his left shoulder. The Deep Gnome glared at them with a cocky confidence.“Who are you?” Bridazak asked suspiciously.“My name is Mudd, but you can call me Aloysius Davadander Ashenkoombi, for short.”The Dwarf and Daks looked at each other, bewildered and confused.“I don't like him,” whispered Dulgin.“And I don't care,” the mysterious Gnome grinned, apparently hearing the Dwarf's comment from across the room.“What do you want?” asked Bridazak.“I wanted to see with my own eyes the ones that are causing so much grief.”“Grief with whom?” Dulgin questioned as he took a step forward.“Yes, an interesting question indeed,” he sighed, “You have no idea what is happening, do you?”“No, we don't. But we would appreciate some answers,” chimed Bridazak as he moved into the sitting room and sat on the end of one of the benches. His friends followed, but did not sit.“Things are changing rapidly--things that no one can stop. You, Bridazak, have awakened the destiny of this realm. The prophecy has been unleashed. I have seen much over my thousand years, and have found that men of all races are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. The blackest darkness is reserved for most, but for what they were not told, they will see, and what they have not heard, they will understand.” Mudd narrowed his eye slits while staring intently toward Bridazak.“Since you know who I am, are you the one Ember spoke of?” asked the Ordakian.“Not even close, but interesting that you should mention her name. She told you of him, didn't she? Now I see that she has granted you protection, for what it is worth,” Mudd pointed at the medallion around Bridazak's neck.“What is it worth?” Spilf’s interest piqued at the thought of getting a few more coins in their purses.“Worthless to those it was not given to, and no help in preventing me from locating you. What matters now is the time of the prophecy. It has called out for centuries, but none have heard, until now. I will give you a word of advice before I depart. Keep moving, because as I found you, so can others. You can stay in my room, if you dare, and the key I leave behind opens more than one door.” The mysterious gnome became blurry and slowly transformed into a ghostly image. He produced a soft aura as he rose from the chair and hovered.“The creatures of this world never cease to amaze me. We will see if you are one of them.” Mudd flew up higher and then soared down toward the group. They ducked and watched the apparition as he plummeted into the roaring fire. A burst of flame erupted, and then reduced to its original dying embers. Spilf noticed a glint of gold, and upon inspection, discovered a golden key on the chair where Mudd sat.Bridazak sighed as he put his hands over his face. “What have I gotten us into?”

She never saw him coming. Liv was opening the trunk of her car when a rough hand grabbed her throat and squeezed. Her heart stuttered wildly, and her lungs cried for air. The hand tightened its grip, just enough to control her, to let her know she couldn’t escape. The parking lot looked deserted. At this time of night, even late shoppers had already gone home. There was no one to help her.She tried to breathe, tried not to panic. Little dots danced before her eyes. A sudden wave of blackness threatened to engulf her. She fought it. But the hand felt strong, very strong. Suddenly weak, unable to think, Liv dropped her bag. It clattered noisily on the concrete, the only sound in the vast silence of the parking lot. Then…he smelt her. Definitely smelt her.As suddenly as she had been attacked, she was free. She inhaled deeply, sweet air, blissful air invading her empty lungs. She made ragged sounds, her throat burning, her knees so wobbly that she had to lean on the car to ease off the tension. Silly as it sounded, she felt as weak as a freshly-out-of-the-womb kitten. What had just happened? Had he really smelt her?“Go!”His voice startled her—only one word, barely whispered, but an order nonetheless. He had assaulted her, out of nowhere. Now he wanted her to leave. The whole scene felt totally surreal.“Go before he sees you!”“Who?”“Some questions are better not answered.”He spoke in a low tone as though he didn’t want to be heard. Liv turned around as fast as her still-spinning head would allow her. He stood well away from her, dark, tall, dangerous, his gaze fixed on her. The most attractive man she had ever seen. He had just attempted to strangle her but, looking at him, all she wanted to do was run her fingers through his thick black hair, and touch the hard lines of his face. Her granddad’s favourite curse sprang to mind, as was the case every time she felt troubled or threatened. Holy mackerel, what was wrong with her today? She should already be driving away yet shock seemed to slow her down to the speed of a sleepy hedgehog. Shock or curiosity? Latching onto the mental image of Gramps, she stared at her handsome, disturbing attacker.“You can’t jump on people like that. What do you want?”She carefully touched her neck, the tender spot right below the chin. Despite her fear and bafflement, Liv couldn’t help gaping at him. Who was this man? What did he want to do with her? Rape her? Kill her? If so, he wasn’t being very efficient. Why had he changed his mind? Because he had smelt her skin? That made no sense. No sense at all.“Look, I don’t know…”“Be quiet!”He had issued an order again, and, in spite of his scary tone, she didn’t like it one bit. They faced each other, her still wobbly on her legs, him as hard as iron. She decided not to be impressed by his unnatural gaze and stance, and took a step towards him.“Stay away from me!” He didn’t move a muscle, didn’t raise his voice. A gust of wind crossed the parking lot, and his long, black leather coat billowed. A dog’s distant howl broke the silence, the sinister sound suggesting loneliness. Liv felt hit by an unexpected lick of desire as she watched the mysterious stranger—a gentle hardening in her stomach, a soft tickle between her thighs.Although night had settled in, she easily made out his rough features, the strong line of his jaws, the curve of his sensual lips. What could those lips do to her? Slide along her bare skin? Caress her mouth with longing? Kiss the gentle throbbing between her thighs?Holy mackerel, what was she thinking? She had to quit daydreaming right this instant. For all she knew the man might be the next Jack the Ripper so she’d better stop drooling over him. Yes, good decision.Maybe she spent too much time in front of the television, but he looked so like a dark knight from past ages, a guardian from a world beyond. Intent on clarifying the situation, Liv took another step.“I told you to stay away from me!”There it was again. Did she detect a hint of wariness in his tone this time?Palms up, she met his gaze. “Why?”“Because you are the death of me.”

Goodreads Blurb:
Because sometimes death isn’t the end…
After not only being run over, but watching her husband die in the same hit and run, Eve Philips thought she would never love again. Years pass and her sisters worry that she’ll become an old crone like so many other witches. They’ve made it their personal mission to help her find her next true love. But Eve wants none of that, she throws herself into her potions shop--Witches Brew--determined work, and not a lover, will fix the void in her heart.
Until the day she sees him. Cian, gorgeous and mysterious, she’s frightened by the desires he brings out in her. A passion that rivals even the love she’d felt for her husband.
But Cian is not what he seems. He’s fae. More than that, he’s the grim reaper of legend and his mission means her death. She shouldn’t have seen him. His kind moves in stealth, but the moment her golden eyes meets his he knows his world will never be the same. He’ll defy his orders and his Queen to keep her. But will Eve want what he offers when she discovers the truth? That he was the one who harvested her husband’s soul…
This is an Urban Fantasy Romance dealing with fairies, vampires, shifters, witches, and the occasional vindictive ghost.
My Review: An Excellent paranormal read that held a little of everything for its readers. We’re talking romance, action, sadness & loss, originality, various paranormals, humor, sensuality, surprises, an amazing build and GREAT characters (I fell in love twice!) Any fan of the genre will definitely enjoy their time spent with The Witching Hour J
Eve is one of three sisters. All are beautiful and all are witches. Eve is the only one that has married out of the trio and sadly experienced the loss of her husband at a high point of their relationship. She lives for a couple of years still holding on to the loss, closing herself off to the world. No longer truly living as she should. That is until she meets Cian…
Cian is a fae, also known as a grim reaper. He’s given tasks to accomplish and has no choice but to get them done. He never has a choice, but finds his current task brings him pause. He just CAN’T! There’s something about it that’s preventing him from moving forward and accomplishing what he’s been set out to do. One of them being the most beautiful female he has ever seen, Eve.
An amazing story of fate, peace among all paranormals, choice, free will, a very touching romance and much, much more. While very satisfied with the story, I found myself wanting more of the world and characters Marie created (*hint hint*).

Goodreads Blurb: A witch's curse placed on Molly, a beautiful and young thing, makes her unable to live if she does not orgasm at least once a day. Literally.
Molly was sold to her new master, Tristan, who evidently falls in love with her at first sight. He takes her away from the life of living as someone's plaything and teaches Molly how to experience love as his woman and as his submissive. Though Tristan may be kind, he has a dark side to him which he brings out occasionally.
This is an epic story of the true love between Master Tristan and submissive Molly. After being rescued from the life of a sex slave, she slowly allows herself to believe in love once more. However, has Molly truly escaped her past? or will it eventually catch up to her?
My Review: Definitely different from any other erotic BDSM paranormal read I’ve ever come across. It was a touch dark, sweet, romantic, magical, suspenseful and sensual all wrapped up into one engrossing story. Molly’s Curse is definitely a read any fans of the genre should look into. Especially those that want a change up from everyday BDSM reads ;)
Molly is a beautiful young woman that was cursed at the young age of 18 for reasons fully unknown. She’s been living her years not only with this sexual curse, but in the worst situation a person in her…condition could possibly be. She was kidnapped some time ago, held captive and turned into a slave and not treated very well at all. Many years of suffering just may have finally come to an end with her newest master, Tristan (LOVE that name!)
A quick read that is best read in the comfort of home with a nice cool drink by your side. It left me wanting more and I’m VERY curious how the author will continue with this series. Looking forward to what’s to come. Bring it on Sapphire Kande ;)

Interview with Alexander Beresford Author of Charla

A.R.- Hello Alex, do you mind if I call you Alex or do you prefer Alexander?Alex: My friends call me Alex. You can call me Alex.
A.R.- It’s a pleasure to have you as a guest on DoD’s. I’d like to start off by getting to know a little bit about you as a person. Alex: Well, I grew up in California, Los Angeles to be exact, and part of the time in Maryland and Dallas. My dad (now retired) was the manager of an international bank and every few years we were moved to another location. My love for books began at an early age, my mother used to read to me, and I've been reading for as long as I can remember. In high school, the writing bug bit me hard after I watched Stephen R. Donaldson do a book reading for The One Tree at the library of my high school. I don't remember what he told us exactly, but ever since, I've wanted to become a writer. I recently got in touch with him to thank him for inspiring me. I have a lot of interests and hobbies, I had a career in radio as an on air "personality" and as a studio/live musician. I play bass, piano/keyboards, blues harmonica, and some guitar. My passion for the horror genre began early. My best friend's older brother had horror comics like Nightmare, Eerie, and Vampirella, and I used to LOVE reading those! I'm not into terribly violent and gory, bloody horror, For the most part I prefer more of a paranormal, psychological kind of terror. I do like weird.
A.R.- If you had to describe yourself using three words, they would be…Alex: A loyal friend, a good father (single father since my daughter was 4), and fairly creative (my fuel).
A.R.- Name one funny trait you have, that you would like others to know.Alex: I can move my ears, independently, too!
A.R.- What's your motto in life? Alex: Trying to live the moment as much as possible instead of allowing yourself to be overwhelmed by what hasn't happened yet.
A.R.- Do you have any pets?Alex: Three cats: Harry, Kwai Chang Caine, and Seamus. One dog named Oliver. All rescues. All boys.
A.R.- What’s your favorite food to order in a restaurant? Alex: I love pasta, Carbonara specifically. All kinds of Chinese, Thai, and Indian foods, particularly curry. Whenever in England, I hit the curry houses hard!
A.R.- If you could have any superpower, what would it be?Alex: Even though I have tinnitus I also have heightened hearing, it's weird, but I can hear tiny noises most people can't. Because of my tinnitus I've been to tons of doctors, so this has been tested. It's a blessing and a curse, because sometimes little noises bother me, I ask if anyone can hear the buzz, or beeping, and they can't, so I have to track it down, and it's always something in a drawer, or some kind of malfunctioning electronic device. My dog Oliver ran away once and we were out looking for him, and just as we were about to give up, I heard his dog tag in the distance, no one else heard it, so we started heading in that direction, found him, and brought him home. So if I could have ANY super power, I'd like to be Super Handsome! Because I'm only extremely handsome. Anyway … I'd like to be able to fly. This is a very serious reoccurring dream I've had my entire life, and in some kind of alternate reality, I believe I can fly.
A.R.- Have you ever had the feeling you were being watched?Alex: Yes on occasion. And sometimes I'm right, too.
A.R.- Now on to your current release. Why the name Charla for both your book title and character name? Is there meaning behind it?Alex: No deep meaning, I just felt the book should be named after her since she's the powerhouse in it. My next novel out this Fall will be called "Doll Face", and I have a short coming out on Kindle soon, tentatively titled "Tiny Thing" (or just "Sandra") Maybe all my books will have names or nicknames for titles. You can see a very early cover of "Doll Face" on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/alexandertberesford You're all welcome to join me there.
A.R.- How long did it take you to complete writing Charla? Alex: It took me four months to write a first draft, then another three or four months to rewrite it. My first drafts end up needing a lot of work, but without question they are the most fun for me. I don't enjoy rewriting nearly as much.
A.R.- Is there anything you’d like us all to know about Charla? Alex: She's deeply misunderstood :) Her personality is loosely based on people I've known in my life, one of which is still close to me. I know that sounds frightening, but people much worse than Charla are out there. In case you're wondering, it's not my mother who still is a wonderful, loving mother, and one of the kindest people walking this earth.
A.R.- What's your next project?Alex: The most exciting thing going on right now is the movie version of Charla. I can't talk about it much right now, but it's been keeping me busy since I've been helping with casting and preproduction. We're right in the middle of all that actually and this is the first time I've mentioned it publicly. For now it's an independent production to be tentatively released in 2014, but in the film business anything can happen. We will be shooting a teaser trailer within the next couple of months. More to come. Coincidentally, I already have a director interest in my next novel "Doll Face" (coming this Fall) which I've been told will make a great horror picture. We'll see. Maybe there's a pattern being developed here with Alexander Beresford novels. I can only hope so. I love the movies.
A.R.- Thank you so much for being here. I hope you’ll come back again for a visit or too chat some more!Alex: I really appreciate this opportunity to share with readers, writers, new friends. Thank you very much.

Goodreads Blurb: A mother. A daughter. A demon.... How Does a Hot, Sexy Mother Who Hates Her Daughter Put Her Ultimate Plan Into Action?
There are many beautiful stories about mother/daughter relationships out there, but CHARLA isn't one of them! CHARLA is the story of a sexy mother who hates her daughter and manages to secretly bring her pain and discomfort. So creative is Charla in satisfying her unsettling needs, that even Amelie grew up unaware of her mother's deranged feelings towards her.
With Amelie all grown up now, it has become harder and harder for Charla to quench her morbid impulses without getting her hands dirty. So ... one lonely dawn, Charla experiences a very weird event that sparks the idea of summoning a demon to disrupt her twenty-five year old daughter's perfect, pretty little life. She puts the sick plan into action ... and the demon moves in....
My Review: Charla is a very chilling read that had me feeling a variety of emotions and even brought about goose bumps to my flesh. Actually, I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride! Sometimes I was happy and other I was confused, even scared. Should I be scared or angry, happy or sad? Many fans of the genre will enjoy the story of Charla and her devious and evil wicked ways.
The hatred Charla holds for her only daughter (without legit reason I might add), brings forth chills on its own. The woman is the lowest of the low, evil, wicked and cold. She’ll do anything, sink to any levels to get what she wants achieved, done. No matter the circumstances. Hurting her daughter and making her miserable is on the tippity top of her list of priorities since her birth. Amelia has done no wrong, nothing that should bring about such cruel thoughts and actions from her very own mother. The kicker is, she has no idea to her mother’s true feelings…
While I was reading this, I had a flash of an old movie called Mommy Dearest. Charla is some piece of work and I’d never want to cross her path. At times I wanted to stick my hands in the pages and choke a person! Definitely not a read for the faint of heart and for 18+ due to graphic and sexual scenes. A 3.5 rating rounded to a 4 for me. There were a couple of instances left unanswered, not finalized that I cannot state due to the fact they will bring about some spoils to the story. I apologize if there is to be a book two to the series. If there is, I will definitely be reading it with hopes those openings will be closed and my curiosity satisfied!

A troubled 22-year-old superstar singer, Infinity has a bad reputation for drugs and hard partying. Now, she is on the road to a comeback with her controversial tour. But everything about doing the concert feels wrong from missing employees, to anonymous threats about ruining her career. Now she must put her safety and trust in the hands of sexy, tattooed and delicious Torch Channing and Boulder Vigari, hired to keep her from getting killed. Boulder wants to make her his. He won't stop until he claims her. Torch struggles with his primal need to possess her and his hatred of everything she represents.
Infinity is determined to protect her heart while dealing with the pressure of pulling off another successful tour without spiraling into another mental meltdown.
My Review: A good start to a new series that left me wanting MUCH more! And not just more of the story, but more details. I was left…wanting and there were quite a few questions lingering in my mind. All-in-all it’s a fun, exciting and funny paranormal packed read that fans of the genre should take the time to look into.
Infinity is a beautiful, talented young woman that has a bad reputation and does not fight to prove it wrong. It’s not that she does not care, but why fight it? She’s highly stressed and deals with it the way she knows how. She’s also a bit confused. Things are coming out of the woodwork, more like facts that she’s never known and people that she’s never knew of. She finds out many truths and comes to realize all is not at all what it seems to be. She also finds herself very strongly attracted to not just one man, but three and never having felt like this before. She’s unsure how to deal with it.
So much is going on in her life, including her two best friends missing. She’s told many different things about the why’s, the who’s and where’s, but is clueless as to who she can trust. That includes her own family. Poor Infinity has it the furthest from easy that one would expect being such a big star. Now what to do with all of these new events?
A 3.5 rounded to a 4 rating for me. It has the means to be a really great series and I plan to keep my eyes alert for this author and the next in the series. I REALLY need to know where things end up for Infinity and if there’s any one in her life she can truly count on. I also would love to know who she chooses to be with among the three men that seem to get her all hot and bothered J

Lottie Barrett Lives (Again) is speculative fiction, YA for grownups. It’s no zombie bloodbath or lighthearted zombie romp. It’s a winter ghost tale, what can happen when a zombie girl arrives in 1960s small town America and just in time for the holidays.
It’s Halloween night, 1966. Thirteen year old Lottie has been dead a hundred years and the kids go up to the graveyard with the book of spells Charlene Pendergrass swiped from Miss Robespierre. The kids are going to have some fun scaring themselves, bringing Lottie back, but it turns out Miss Robespierre isn’t the faker everyone says she is and there’s nothing fake about her book either and now there’s a ghost-girl walking the streets of Hope Mountain and what to do with her?Maybe nothing.Lottie’s no zombie ax-murderer. She’s just a peculiar kid who wants to be a teenager, something she missed the first time. What else she wants is Bobby Clyde, cutest boy in the freshman class and how can Bobby resist? Lottie is cute and sweet and funny, or are those things illusory, a witch’s spell on Bobby? And what’s Bobby going to do when it’s time for Lottie to go back up onto the hill? Bobby is determined to go with her. Lottie doesn’t think he should go but she doesn’t think she could live (or die) without him. Only Bobby’s mom and big sister can save him and before they can save him, they have to convince themselves it really is true, and there isn’t much time.

Goodreads Blurb: Russian intrigue, startling revelations, and submissive enlightenment… Brie’s trip to Russia exceeds her wildest dreams. The bond between Master and Brie grows deeper as he opens up about his mysterious past. While the Russian Dom, Rytsar Donkova, reveals his true nature, introducing the young submissive to a different side of BDSM.
The third novelette of the’ After Graduation’ series takes Brie on a journey overseas where unspoken desires, exploration and love know no bounds.
My Review: Another fun, engrossing and highly erotic addition to the Brie - After Graduation series. Red Phoenix keeps us on our toes by writing the continuously addictive story of Brie. A definite must read for all fans of the genre.
Brie says good bye to much of the old of her life and hello to many new things. One of them being an exciting trip to Russia with Sir. Oh what a trip it is (that’s all I’m saying about that!) Another new and exciting journey for her in a multitude of ways, with the addition of the company of the one she holds dearest to her heart. Brie is continuing on with her dream to be big in film production with the full blessing and support of the amazing Sir.
I’ve been slacking and am in need of catching up in this new portion of the Brie series. But have read all of the others (woot!) That being said, anyone out there that has not read ANY of the Brie’s in existence… Turn back now and get to reading! You’ll miss out on so much growth, sensuality and fun if you don’t start from the beginning. You’re in for a wild ride :)
