The Voices in My Head
I've been looking back at some of my posts on Facebook and realized that were I not a writer, I would definitely be seriously considered for medication. Really. There are voices in my head and they talk to me. I talk to them. We argue. They pout. They stop talking to me. I get mad and stop writing what they say and start listening to other voices in my head.
The upside is when I write down everything the voices in my head are saying, get it all polished, edited, and published with a pretty cover - you guys buy it and it's called a novel. Pretty cool, huh?
Okay, I'm being facetious. But only because I've been struggling for the past month or more with the fourth book in a series and can't seem to get it together to finish. It's well over half way there and it's stalled out big time. My solution was to finally put it aside. Just hit SAVE and file it away in a folder for later and begin something new. I've had several ideas running around in my head wanting their turn in the sun (or on my computer monitor as the case may be) and I'm letting one of them out. I've managed 5k words on my first day, and feeling as if I'm actually being productive. Finally.
I have no idea if this is normal for a writer, but it's my normal. I couldn't force it since everything I wrote seemed to be total crap. Letting the voices in my head out when they're ready seems to be a better fit for my writing style. Someone called it "pantsing" and I'm good with that. If it works, it works.
So the current WIP is coming along and I'm hoping to get it out sometime after the new year. Thinking it's going to be a novella of around 45k or 50k words. It's an M/M fantasy romance because I like HEAs and love writing fantasy. M/M because that's what the voices in my head told me.
Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

Going Forward
I seem to have had an utterly unproductive week in regards to writing. The majority of my time has been spent watching a granddaughter while her parents move to a new apartment or work. It’s really taken a lot out of me. I love my grandbaby, but I’m simply not as young as I was when I raised my own family. Caring for a 6-month-old takes some energy. Most likely, that will change now that the new apartment is completely moved into. It’s a town further away and a new baby sitter has been procured. Which means I won’t be spending quite the amount of time previously spent watching my sweet Lettie smile for me.
We’ve had some fun times, though, and I love getting her to smile. I also love making her parents give me “the look” when I try to teach her something they’re not too sure about. Like sticking out her tongue, or blowing raspberries, or even howling like a wolf. It seems her mother just doesn’t remember me teaching her the same things. I continue to claim “grandma’s privilege” and my daughter continues to eye me as if she’s wondering if perhaps she made an error in judgement in allowing grandma to watch her little one. Definitely, fun times.
On the writing front, I’ve managed to set up a new document and dig out my notes for a new book. That’s about it. Even writing this blog has been a chore to schedule in. I haven’t given up, though, since my previous blog regarding my various insecurities. (By the way, thanks so much to those who commented or sent messages to lift me back up. They were greatly appreciated.) I have so many voices in my head and stories to write, there’s just no way to stop cold turkey. Many of those characters are men and they’ve already told me they want their HEA to involve another man. If I’m going to tell their story, I’ll need to write within the M/M romance genre.
The fantasy worlds I’ve created in my head will also continue. I dislike where the human race seems to be going, so I’ll just keep making up worlds and galaxies where the beings aren’t quite so judgmental, and they learn from the past. Not to get too political, but I’m thoroughly disgusted with my country’s political climate and the idiots that want to run the government. I’ll just hide in my stories, thank you. Who knows, maybe someday enough people will read my writings and finally figure out caring for each other, learning from each other, accepting each other, and allowing everyone to live in peace would be a much more productive way to live.

Cover Reveal and Release Date
My newest book, In the Beginning, the first book in the After the Coming Series will be released August 1st. It should shortly be up for pre order on Amazon, Kobo, iBooks, Scribd, and Barnes & Noble. A paperback version will be available through Create Space soon, as well.
I'm thrilled with the cover, which was designed by Brandy Newton.
In the Beginning is a post-apocalyptic tale about what happens to those left on earth when aliens come in the name of religion and decimate the planet and it's people. There's some romance, of course, since that's my favorite genre, but it's not the entire focus of the book.
Let me share a small snippet:
There were bodies, wrecked bikes, and carnage everywhere. Arrows. No bullet holes, just arrows. Lots of arrows. The guys probably never knew what hit them. We dismounted to see if we could find any survivors, but I wasn’t holding out any hope. The sun had been shining the past couple of days, the nights would have been cold, and I doubted anyone had escaped without some form of injury. I found Bricker and all of his brothers together. They’d fallen while trying to defend each other. Phil was lying under his bike, an arrow sticking out of his chest. The scavengers had been at some of the bodies and they were now unrecognizable.
“Luke!”
I looked over to find Arnie kneeling beside a body and jogged over. Gabe was lying with his eyes closed, but he was breathing. Barely.
“He’s alive, but not sure for how much longer.”
I heard a moan and went searching, again. Flint was leaning against the back of his trike with a broken off arrow in his outer thigh and another in his shoulder. I knelt beside him and he opened his eyes. I neatly grabbed his wrist before he could skewer me with the knife he was holding in a death grip. I pried it from his grip and distractedly noted it was the stiletto Arnie had left for him after questioning Jet.
“Hey, now, Flint. Not supposed to kill the rescuer, yeah?
