The Artful Eavesdropper
Writers are said to be the most shameless eavesdroppers. They just sit around the cafes, bistros, and coffeehouses listening in on their neighbors' juicy private conversations. Does this, in fact, ever occur?
I don't recall being guilty of such an infraction. As a rule, conversations are banal. Then you have those folks either taking or making a cell phone call. Nothing is private about that communication. Besides, don't people pick up on when others are being nosy? Remember what happens in the old Seinfeld episode.
