Positively kinky

After getting my knickers in a twist over ethics, I thought about sharing the sort of things I really like to write about to balance the debate about the areas I worry about. There is, of course, room for all sorts and I'm for freedom of expression, as a general rule, rather than censorship. As my grandmother likes to say, 'It'd be a dull world if we all liked the same thing.' But I do like to think about the worlds I'm creating with my words and the effects they might have.

There's one area I...

Ethical Debate is Just Thrilling

I've been thinking lately about the ethics of the eroticised thriller as a subgenre of erotica. I read one book in which a male agent was made to unwillingly submit to a variety of BDSM practices as part of a double bluff. The storyline was presented such that if the agent was let in on the secret, he may have blown the mission. One reviewer wrote: 'Abuse and assault sold as BDSM' and 'If you call it BDSM, then write real BDSM. Don't package non-consensual torture as BDSM.'

I know I'm ge...

Virtual cake

I've been out visiting again, sharing some virtual cake with the lovely Kay Jaybee.
I've shared some thoughts as a relative newbie to writing erotica on the things I've learnt since I first had a story accepted by Xcite Books last summer. The list starts with 'Be Nice'!

I'm Out Visiting

I'm over at the fabulous Lucy Felthouse's place today, talking about why maps are so sexy that I wrote my story for Smut Alfresco all about them:

My story, The Explorer Challenge, is all about the British Ordnance Survey map, which may not sound a particularly likely subject for erotica. But I'm a map geek and proud of it. In fact, I've just ventured into my loft to count the maps in my collection and I have 62...

Alfresco Liaisons by Lucy Felthouse

I'm welcoming Lucy Felthouse to my blog today to give you her thoughts on why the great outdoors can be so sexy...
Firstly, I want to extend many thanks to Tilly for letting me loose on her blog today to promote Smut Alfresco . Thank you!
Tilly asked me to write a post about why people are drawn to alfresco liaisons. Obviously I can’t speak for everyone, but based on early sales of the anthology, I’d say it’s a very popular topic. In my opinion, I think there are several reasons that sex outdoor...

All the Sevens

I've been tagged in the round robin to reveal to you seven lines from page seven of my story in Lust in Time, a collection of gay erotic romance through the ages.

Mine's set in 27AD in a fictional pre-invasion of Britain by the Romans. Centurion Lucius has been captured by the barbarian lord Finian:

'Are you enjoying your treatment?'
'Yes, my liege,' I whispered. My hips thrust of their own accord, pushing my shaft against his fingers. 'I have longed to feel your cock inside me since you dragged...

Out now: Smut Alfresco

I was really pleased when I found out my story had been accepted for Smut Alfresco. Having read the first Smut by the Sea anthology, which I reviewed here, I was instantly drawn to the whole idea. The bright and breezy nature of 'smut', the Britishness of it (although there are stories set around the globe, it just has a Brit feel to it), the wholesome, life-affirming nature of fresh air and sunshine. So to be able to participate as an author in the Smut family is just amazing.

There's a new S...

Review: Frank/Eva from Sudden Sex

Well, I have lots going on at the moment, with two new anthologies out with my stories in them: gay erotic romance collection Lust in Time, which you can read my blog post about here, and Smut Alfresco, which I'll be telling you all about later in the week.

But today, I'm pleased to bring you a review of two paired stories from the new Cleis Press anthology Sudden Sex: 69 Sultry Short Stories, edited by Alison Tyler. Thanks to Alison for letting me be part of the mammoth blog tour she's j...

Published: 27 A.D. in Lust in Time

Just realised that this anthology, Lust in Time, containing my first ever m/m story is out now. Meep! It's a collection of historical short stories, spanning 1000 BC to 1979 AD, edited by Rob Rosen and published by MLR Press.

My story is set in a fictional pre-invasion of Britain by a small Roman force with a commander somewhat disgruntled by the empire. When Lucius finds himself on his knees in the mud with the enemy leader's sword at his throat, death is the only honourable option. But...

Review: Kinky by Justine Elyot

First of all, I just have to say that I want a Dimitri. In fact, I think everyone deserves a Dimitri of their very own. Maybe a pocket-sized version so you can keep him with you at all times. He’s such a sweetie. He’s also the hero of this fabulous tale. A tale which has joined the ranks of books that kept me up past 11pm. And you should know that strange things involving pumpkins happen when I’m still up past 11pm.
It’s a beautifully well-written story of an office worker and a Russian wannab...
