WHEN WILL WE LEARN? #VOTE 2016
This post says it all.
The name of this blog is “Living Lightly,” but the topic of this post may veer from my intentions when I first started the blog. However, I must write what’s in my heart even if it means some of you (I hope not) decide to unfollow me.
I’m sickened by the political debacle occurring in my country, the United States. I’m tired of people my age–normally the politically active baby boomers–telling me continually they’ve decided not to vote because they are so disgusted with what is happening.
How did we sink so low?
And how much further can we go?
I’m worried. But yesterday, I discovered my new found concerns really should have bothered me before the crisis in electing a president.
Weekend guests to our home showed me I’ve been living under the falsehood that we are a nation of souls who love one another for our diversity and our…

Big Sale and Giveaway
I have read the Leine Basso novels and loved them! At this price you’d be crazy not to give them a try yourself. And as you laugh all the way to the bank, just think…I paid full price.

The Code – brilliant Aussie thriller
The Offspring and I just finished watching the finale of The Code. This was season 2, and it was even better than season 1. If you hurry you can still watch at least some of season 2 on ABC iView.
So what made The Code so special that I’m reviewing a TV show? -shock horror-
Brilliant writing, acting and directing, that’s what.
The story revolves around two brothers – Jesse a young man with autism who also happens to be an absolute computer whiz, and his brother Ned, a journalist. Ned has looked after Jesse pretty much all of his life and the love between them is palpable. But that kind of love involves a huge sacrifice, and that provides the tension in their relationship.
And then Jesse’s hacking gets them both into trouble. That is the core of the story and everything builds from there. It is the nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat drama that we are starting to get very good at. I am so proud of our tiny film industry. It is punching so far above its weight, it should be in outerspace.
Congratulations to everyone who helped make The Code. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie.
A Singapore Street Vendor with a Michelin Star!
It’s been a very long week, topped off by a visit to the dentist this afternoon so I really, really needed cheering…and this post did it with room to spare! Wonderful.

I’ve loved classical music all my life, and I’m thrilled these young people are bringing classical music and musicianship back to the every day. Power to them!

The Adventures of a rubber ball :D
I haven’t played this addictive little game on a smartphone yet, but I have played an early beta version of it on my pc – and even then it was a lot of fun!
It sort of reminded me of the old Nintendo game called Snake Rattle n Roll. Not in any similarity of graphics or gameplay, but rather in the adrenaline pumping need to get to that next level….-cough-
The game was developed – from scratch – by my friend George Panayiotou. Some of you may remember George from comments. Not only is he a brilliant game designer, he also taught himself Maya [Maya is the computer graphics program used to create most of the best CG in movies], and he’s a very talented graphic designer.
George and I go way back to an online forum called guru3D. It was a fun forum in which to hang out, but more importantly, it was a great place to learn from a bunch of very clever geeks.

Retired Ladies Live Their Dreamlife in a Cosy Forest House
I’ve always loved the elegance of Japanese art and design, but this ‘house’ totally blows my mind. From ground level, every angle looks like a cluster of round tents, or maybe tiny towers from a fairy-tale, but each ‘tent’ is actually a perfect square which is angled to overlap the other squares to create the illusion of circles. Check the original out, just for the photos if nothing else. And that pool? To die for…-drool-
Have you wondered how you’ll spend your retired days? I’ll give you an idea. A genius Japanese architect created an unique home for 2 retired ladies with their caretaker and a cook.

Mobile computing – not quite there yet :(
Hello world! You are receiving this missive from the Greensborough Plaza Shopping Centre in lovely downtown Greensborough, an outer-ish suburb of Melbourne, Australia.
For the first time ever, I’m composing this post on my new laptop via a free wi-fi connection that would make dialup cringe in shame.
It’s taken me half an hour to connect and get this far.
