Review of "The Cowboy's Christmas Auction" by Lorraine Nelson
What's New to Review? - WednesdayIt's been a great Holiday season already. I have gotten the chance to read some amazing holiday stories this year, and I am so thankful for the opportunity that my fellow authors have given me to enjoy their wonderful reads for free and for honest reviews.
This marks the beginning of what I hope will become a weekly feature on my blog. Wednesday will be "What's New to Review?" day here at Pen-the-Dream and to kick it off, I want to introduce you to a great short read from a wonderful author.
"The Cowboy's Christmas Auction"This sweet romance holiday read is a short story that lights a fire in your heart from the beginning and it burns slow and steady through the read.
Ms. Nelson is quite skilled in her sweet romances and this holiday's short is no difference. Deciding to focus more on true love and romance really puts your heart to soaring and I highly recommend it!
Having already written a number of other books that are set on ranches, Lorraine has perfected the setting. And right next door to this ranch? A beautiful acreage of Christmas Trees and new neighbor...
Though this story does take place during the holiday season, the holiday itself doesn't take over the book, and would be a great read for any time of the year. Other than the Christmas Tree selling and a mention of Christmas dinners, there is hardly a mention. This suites me just fine, knowing that these events could happen at any time of year just makes it that more heart warming.
My official review? It's a "5 cups of love" read. This is a novella that I'm sure I will read again!
Blurb:
Can an organic grower and a cattle rancher find common ground?
When the acreage next door comes up for bid, Dustin Granger attends the auction hoping to obtain the property for his growing herd. Along with the creek running through the property, his cattle need more grazing land. What he doesn’t need or want is a city girl outbidding him to establish an organic farm.
Meredith McRae inherits a small fortune from a distant uncle and decides to invest in her future. The estate she’s come to bid on has everything she needs and no neighboring cowboy was going to thwart her…regardless how handsome.

Writing for the Love of it...
It's FALL!
Grab it here!I'm so happy the season is changing.
The leaves are falling, the temperatures are dropping, and sitting on the front porch with a blanket and a good book seems like the perfect thing to put on your to do list.
Need a sweat romance to get you going? Try my New Adult release from Decadent Publishing. Though it may be New Adult, I can almost guarantee that any age group will love the pairing of these two characters and their budding new relationship.
It's been a crazy few months! From government shutdowns to family affairs; writing time to working "the job" full time: these past few months have been hectic. But, there have been some amazing successes along the way.
My 1st editor left the company I was signed with, BUT she has returned :-)My seventh submission was accepted and was to be released in September, BUT it is in another anthology, and the work has been delayed. My 1st paranormal release "The Initiate" came back with minimal changes and an absolutely GORGEOUS cover, BUT I still don't have a release date.My 1st romantic suspense "Saving Holiday" will be out in December and that cover is sparkly and shiny, BUT I finished working on 1st round edits this weekend to a total tune of 15 hours and 12 minutes. (Yes that's strictly writing time, and doesn't include break times.) So as you can see, there are ups and downs here to the average writer's life. And just like any other profession, you must learn to take the good with the bad. If you love the work you're doing, you'll suffer through the bad parts. (They never last long anyhow.)
Finally: The Big Announcement! My 1st series, and my first release to be exact, has hit the top 100 on two separate Amazon Lists!
Caledonia Captives Book 1 - The Legionnaire's Prize
Blurb:
Decimus wasn’t born a Roman and doesn’t intend to stay one, but leaving is complicated… especially with a new wife in tow.
Check it out here!
Don't forget to follow it up with Book 2 in the series.
Caledonia Captives Book 2 - His Seafaring SirenBlurb:
On a dangerous rescue mission to Rome, new couple Mowriyah and Septimus are forced to face the temptation of past lovers and the trials and tribulations of rocky seas.
Check it out here!
Have a happy fall day and maybe you'll get some reading in. I'm sure going to try to!Lisa A. Adams

Author Spotlight: DD Symms
It's here! It's here! The moment we've all been waiting for........ A new release... The beginning of a NEW Series! Please welcome DD Symms!
Hi Lisa and thanks for hosting me!
What's a guy like me who can barely dress himself in complementing colors doing writing an erotic novel about a young fashion designer?I had a blast doing it and did some fun research like seeing how to sew women's undies and checking if it was possible to design a dress in a day --- which Jessie Carter does in Boarding.
Boarding, Book 1 of The Jessie Carter Fashion Series: True Friends are Life's Greatest Pleasure
Jessie Carter wants to do more than design for a cheap lingerie company and while visiting in New York City she gets a chance to design for a supermodel she admires.
Her boyfriend doesn't like it and tries to sabotage her efforts and she has to fend off a gossip columnist who gets wind of the model's kinky desires and wants to dish the dirt.
Boarding reveals Jessie's struggle with her boyfriend through her sexuality. Early we see her trying to romance him and he's more interested in the plans he has for her career.
Later, she seduces him and shows she's in control of her destiny and knows what she's doing. She finds herself falling for the handsome bisexual assistant to the model's manager and discovers true friends are life's greatest pleasures.
Boarding doesn't focus on celebrities and glamour in the fashion industry. Instead, it looks closely at a young woman's pursuit of her dreams and sexual expressions and stepping into an adventure like boarding a plane to an unknown destination.
In the excerpt below, Jessie and her boyfriend Raymond are in separate cities and he asked her to use a webcam for a little fun. However, he doesn’t like the fact she spent money on a sex toy during a visit to London. But wait there's more! Want a sneak peak... try this out.Giveaway!
I will send the first 3 chapters of Boarding to any reader who comments below with an email address.
Now for the juicy part!Excerpt! Jessie arranged the pillows so she could lean back on them. Her legs dangled over the edge of the mattress and she ran the crystal toy the length of her body and then spread her legs wide. "Can you see?""Yeah. You're so lovely." He gritted his teeth. She ran the curved tip over the few tiny hairs on her mons and then pressed once on her clit. Whoever crafted the product was a genius. There was an unusual balance to it, so even though it had no batteries it still felt like it had its own natural movement. She leaned back on one elbow and raised the point with the other hand. "I got this in London.""London?""Yeah." Jessie moved the tip along the lips of her labia."Why?" Raymond sounded shocked and incredulous."Huh?" Jessie did a double take."Why'd you buy it?"Jessie inserted the tip but just like a balloon bursting with the prick of a pin, the molten lust flowing in the air instantly cooled. She reclined and pulled it out. "What do you mean 'why did I buy it'?""Was it expensive?" He was awakened from his sensuous daze. "Cash or credit? You told me there are specials online all the time."Perhaps Raymond was a long, lost relative of Ebenezer Scrooge. "Aw, sweetheart." Jessie collapsed on the pillows and the ceiling seemed to close in on her. She wished Raymond could appreciate the experience of walking into a store and browsing. She had been so hot and so close to striking a fucking orgasm when the fire department from the Kingdom of Pure Pragmatism arrived in time to completely douse her. "Why the hell would you care?" She couldn't help raising her voice."Now, Jessie—""It's my money, goddamn it." "Of course it is. And you've mentioned your concerns about not having enough."Ugh, I sound like a child. Swearing from anger was distasteful, especially when lying naked on silk sheets in a five-star hotel overlooking Central Park. Her long-term career options weighed on her more than spending habits. He couldn't hear that.Raymond had such an ability to inflame her passion when he wanted. He knew how to apply tiny quick kisses and lather her in luxurious strokes with his tongue and his hands. But the past several months after his tech firm launched, his playfulness had grown dim like the diminishing wick of a candle. Now he huffed, puffed, and extinguished the flame.

His Seafaring Siren is released! Chance to win a free copy!
His Seafaring Siren- Caledonia's Captives book 2- is released!
The Adventure Continues.... I am so excited to announce today that book 2 in the Caledonia's Captives series, "His Seafaring Siren" is releasing today! Book 1 "The Legionnaire's Prize" has been doing remarkably well, and this second installment, I am sure will have you as captivated as the first.
So without further ado....
Book Blurb....New couple Septimus and Mowriyah have accepted the grave task to embark on a rescue mission back to the Rome, the very place they once fled from. With lives at stake, both are prepared to fight the Roman guards if their plans are discovered, but fighting their emotions is another battle neither expected.
When a past lover resurfaces, the couple is forced to examine their relationship while still trying to carry out their mission. But is their young love strong enough to survive the trials abroad and at sea?
Excerpt...Septimus turned and saw Mowriyah gliding across the boat deck in a beautiful earth-toned gown. It was cut low on her chest and trimmed in a delicate stitching. She was a vision and his loins reacted to her without his consent. Cursing his manhood for acting on instinct, he tried to put on his angry face.
Mowriyah slowed. She tilted her head ever so slightly, the wind catching her short, bobbed hair to blow it over her face, making her even more compelling. He watched as she gracefully lifted her hand and tucked the windblown hairs behind her ear. She was batting her eyes. Oh, no.
She walked within inches of him and grinned. "May I join you?" Her voice was low and seductive.
He felt the anger leave his body and was confounded that she had this type of power over him. He dropped his hardened expression. "Of course."
She shuffled closer to him and the rocking of the boat caused her breasts to rub against his arms. What was it about this woman that had him so spellbound?
"You are not still angry with me, are you?"
"No, I am not angry." He inhaled deeply. "I still do not want you to go though."
"I understand."
Septimus felt a wave of relief crash through his body. "So, you will stay? Really?"
She looked up at him and he could see her defiance in her eyes. "No. I am going with you. I said I understand how you feel."
The horror of his worst nightmares came barreling back to him. "Mowriyah, please." He turned to face her completely and then grabbed her forearms to pull her to his chest. "This will not be a safe trip. There will be times that we will have to split up, and I cannot protect you when I am not with you."
She raised an eyebrow. "Protect me? And exactly when have I needed your protection?" Her muscles tensed beneath his grip as she tried to slide away from him, but he tightened his hold. "Septimus, we have been here for three months and have been together every day and night, yet I feel you know little about me other than the taste of my skin."
"Do not be like that, Mowriyah," he pleaded.
"Besides, you know I am right. You have no idea what Leihla looks like, so how would you find her?"
"You could tell me, and I would find her."
"Tell you what? She is my height, has majestic black hair, and ocean blue eyes."
He felt her wiggle beneath his touch. He craved to hold her close to him. But how could he tell her how he felt? If he did, she would want a larger commitment, and he wasn't ready to take Decimus's route yet. There were too many young maidens in Caledonia.
"Septimus, let me go." He watched as her face contorted and showed signs of anger. The cute little "V" that formed at her eyebrows when she was furious was evident, and he could feel his manhood awaken with delight.
He slid his hands down her arms to her wrists and restrained them in his hands. Mowriyah's head flew up and he locked on to her glare. Her eyes were wide and he knew she was surprised.
Tugging her forward, he slammed her into his chest. Her breasts pressed against him and warmed the skin beneath his tunic. With his hands still gripping her tightly, he grinned, feeling her heartbeat speed up. Her mouth twitched at the corners and he watched as she tried to hide a smile by biting her lip.
Septimus licked his own lips instinctively. She squirmed, rubbing her breasts against his chest with every writhe. "What am I going to do with you?" he growled.
The smile escaped and her face lit up. "That's a good question. What will you do with me?"
And there it is! - I'm so very proud of this book. I have had Mowriyah's and Septimus' story in my head for a couple of years now. (Since I wrote The Legionnaire's Prize in 2011.) Mowriyah is a strong-willed, fiery pistol who deserves to be called a SIREN! Check it out today!

It's Hearing Loss Awareness Month!
Please welcome my editor from the HerStory anthology and a truly inspiring woman, Tara Chevrestt! The month of May is Hearing Loss Awareness Month. I'd like everyone to take a moment...not just now, not just this week or even this month, but try to remember throughout the year, that millions of people throughout the United States have hearing loss. Some tips for the hearing world:
-The next time you speak to someone in a public place and they don't acknowledge you, don't just automatically assume they're being rude. Stop a minute and ask yourself, "Did they hear me?" Maybe they have hearing loss. Hearing loss isn't a visible illness. You don't SEE it. Hearing aids can be well hidden.
-Make it a habit of speaking clearly and enunciating your words. Don't mumble; don't stare at the ground; don't talk too fast. Try to make sure people are looking at you when you speak to them. This was a rule taught in my household growing up, regardless of if someone had a hearing impairment or not. Back in those days, it was a sign of respect to look at someone when they speak to you and vice versa. We need to bring this back.
-Facial hair...is a nightmare for us hard of hearing lip-readers. If we can't see your lips, we don't understand you. Men, keep that hair trimmed.
-Do not assume that because we can't hear, that we're any different from you. I can get married (I am!), I can have children, I can drive, I can ride a bike. I can do everything you can do, except HEAR. This does not in any way or form hinder my mental capabilities or make me dumb. Let's separate deaf and dumb. It's past time.
-Do not speak to us as though we are slow. Speak normally. There's a big difference in plain enunciation (speaking clearly) and spending one minute on each word you utter. Don't draw it out and move your mouth in an exaggerated fashion. We learn to lip-read normal moving lips, not comical.
-Don't yell at us. Many of us are deaf to certain sounds and it doesn't matter how loud you say it, it won't get through. Plain and simple: if you're not speaking clearly, we won't understand it. Your quiet blah blah blah maw wah just becomes a very loud BLAH BLAH BLAH MAW WAH.
-Don't leave us out of things and talk over our heads. We feel ostracized. When everyone around us is laughing at a good joke, we want to laugh too! Include us. Make an effort. If you feel it's too much work to talk to us, we're going to decide it's too much work to be your friend. And you could really miss out on a good friendship.
-Hearing helpers are just that: HELPERS. If you're asked to be a hearing helper, don't permit others to speak to you as though we aren't there. Don't answer for us. If someone says to you, "What does she want to eat?" do not tell them, "She wants pizza." A hearing helper should turn to the deaf person and say, "He asked what you wanted to eat." We can and will answer for ourselves. Be careful not to take over and remember to just help. We do value our independence.
-Don't say something and then get mad when we ask you to repeat it for the second or third time. Count to ten if you have to, but try to avoid that callous "never mind". If you said it once, I'm going to assume you wanted me to hear it. It must be important enough. It's very frustrating when people do this.
-Cochlear implants and medical procedures of that ilk are personal matters. Do not try to fix us. Many of us are happy the way we are and have no desire to change. We don't see ourselves as broken or in need of fixing, so don't act like we are.
-Teach your kids that we're no different from them, that deaf isn't dumb, that hearing aids are nothing to be ashamed of. Talk to your children about bullying and its long-term effects.
Thank you for your time. In honor of Hearing Loss Awareness Month, I'd like to announce that two of my titles, one my memoir of growing up deaf and working in a hearing world (Hear Through My Ears) and one (Love Request) a contemporary novel featuring a hearing-"impaired" heroine, are on sale for 99 cents the rest of May.
Tara Chevrestt is a deaf woman, former aviation mechanic, dog mom, writer, and editor. You’ll never see her without her Kindle or a book within reach. As a child, she would often take a flashlight under the covers to finish the recent Nancy Drew novel when she was supposed to be sleeping.Tara is addicted to Law & Order: SVU, has a crush on Cary Grant, laughs at her own jokes, and is constantly modifying recipes and experimenting in the kitchen. Her theme is Strong is Sexy. She writes about strong women facing obstacles—in the military, with their handicaps, or just learning to accept themselves. Her heroines can stand alone and take care of themselves, but they often find love in the process. You can connect with her on Facebookor follow her blog.
